Some facts about JF17 - 1) Dubai 2023 is the first time Indian Tejas and Pakistani jf17 came together at an air show. This is because during all previous air displays, Dubai 2021, LIMA 2019, Bahrain 2016, wherever the Indian Tejas participated, the Pakistani team cancelled their JF17 participation after ceding the participation fee. This is the first time after block 3 that Pakistanis finally feel comfortable showcasing their jf17 in front of Indian Tejas. Speaks volumes about Pakistani air force’s trust in their jf17 2) The manufacturing country China does not use jf17 and only exports it to poor countries 3) Even after buying 150 of these jf17 the Pakistan Air Force still relies mainly on their old American f16 and has also started buying Chinese J10 fighter, acknowledging their dissatisfaction with this junk jf17 4) The jf17 block 1 and 2 do not have AESA radar, no in flight refueling, only two dimensional fly by wire, all metal body causing high weight, low thurst weight ratio, older electronics and only Chinese weapons to fire 5) The new block 3 jf17 variant has a cheaper air cooled AESA radar unable to operate at max power and hence lower range. Further, block 3 retains the same old Russian rd93 based engines, uses pod based electronic warfare as well as same metal body and cheap build quality as older block 1 & 2 6) JF17 does not have sensor fusion capability and nor any active/shape stealth features to cater to the advancements in technology for going beyond the fourth generation of fighter aircrafts 7) The all metal airframe has poor manufacturing quality resulting in an availability of approx 40% for Pakistan Air Force The performance and reliability of jf17 is so bad that both export customers, Myanmar as well as Nigeria air forces have grounded this aircraft The availability numbers of Pakistani jf17 are mostly hidden by Pakistan Air Force, but Myanmar and Nigerian air forces are more vocal about their dissatisfaction.
