Welcome to Old Lady Reacts, where I, the Old Lady in question, react to action and super hero films that I haven't seen!

I decided to start a reaction channel because I’m a HUGE movie buff. I love watching all of the young youtubers reactions to movies that I know and love from my younger days, the only problem being . . . I’ve seen almost everything out there! All those great 80’s and 90’s blockbusters, those classic Christmas movies, I worked at a video store for three years right after college, I’ve seen them all! EXCEPT . . . super hero and action movies. And this year, WandaVision came out and it looked really interesting but I haven’t watched it yet because I know that I’ll miss most of the inside jokes. And that would make me sad. So, let’s start watching super hero movies!

Please leave comments on references I missed and connections with other movies as well as recommendations on what to watch next as I definitely need to know what order to watch movies in!

You need to stick to movies that don't require an extended attention span. Also, John Cassavetes is a beloved director, universally admired by serious actors and moviemakers. You also failed to consider the film on its own terms, instead you took refuge in contemporary ideology to justify your ignorance. No, in 1968 it wasn't socially acceptable to have such contempt for your wife that you'd sell your soul to the devil and allow demonic rape. Your lack of knowledge of anything prior to the day before yesterday, is sad, and ridiculous at the same time. That disability should keep you from reacting to films of depth.

I was born in 66 and was a child in the 70s. My parents took me to see this when it came out. It was my favourite movie of all time until Blade Runner came out in 82. Yes it's pre CGI, and was genius. I have all the different versions of the movie. I also read the book and have the Fotonovel. Both of them are fantastic. There was a Special Edition of this in 1980 in the cinema. It didn't add too much to the original, but you got to see Roy inside the mothership. And crying at the splendour. Whatever you do don't watch the making of documentary. It's made that mistake and it takes away a lot of the magic. In the cinema, believe it or not, was the scene when the spaceship was behind him on the road. When the light beams came down on him, the pink noise bass sounds shook the cinema. I had goosebumps the size of Devils Tower 😂😂👌 I was sent to Boarding School at the age of 11, and while I was there I bought the John Williams soundtrack. The late 70s was the time of Punk Rock in the UK. We had a common room in the house where there was an old radiogram, a record player like a piece of furniture. Can you just imagine how frustrated the punks were when I played it? 😂😂
@OldLadyReacts
@OldLadyReacts 14 дней назад
Yeah, that's always the good thing about being in the actual movie theater, the feel of the bass shaking! I hope those punks learned something about movies from you!

Just for the record, when a tornado, or tornadoes hit water, they become water spouts. Which aren't as strong as most tornadoes. Add in two of them spinning like that as they collide, they cancelled one another out. That is why it didn't lift the truck. They had not collided when the cow was in the air. It is a rare phenomenon, but it does happen with water spouts.

wow I'm so happy to see this. I discovered Kurosawa back in the mid 90's when I heard that one of his films was the basis for Star Wars ( Hidden Fortress, 1958 ). Upon seeing that, i consumed every Kurosawa film. The man was a genius of cinematography and storytelling. In a way, he began my lifelong study of film. To this day, every movie I watch is compared to the bar set by Kurosawa. And this one is a great example of his work.

I think you'd like Kurosawa's _Yojimbo_ and its follow-up _Sanjuro_ even more; Toshiro Mifune (Kikuchiyo, the crazy wannabe) _really_ gets to shine as a scruffy, weary ex-samurai. Like _Seven Samurai, Yojimbo_ has been adapted into westerns and other genres. Mifune also gets to play Macbeth in Kurosawa's _Throne of Blood,_ but it's _Ran,_ Kurosawa's later take on _King Lear,_ that will break your heart.
@OldLadyReacts

Yes, Ran would be a story I actually know so it would be super interesting to see Kurosawa's version of it!

The character Zava is based on Zlatan who is probably more eccentric than the character in the show. When he moved to US to play for LA Galaxy he took out a full page advertisment in the LA times that only had his signature and two words, "You're welcome." Lebron James mailed him one of his jerseys as a welcome. Zlatan signed it an sent it back to him. When asked who was the best footballer in the world he said it was between Cristiano or Messi, he was asked why he didnt mention himself he said, "Because you cannot compare Lions to humans."

"Hot Damn" is not a direct translation. I worked for a Japanese company for a couple of years. One of the things I learned is that the Japanese language has no profanity. The closest they come is innuendo in insults. They do have means of emphasizing phrases, though, so saying hot damn is probably the closest they can come in English. In classical Japan, they had a cast culture. You were born a noble, a samurai, a farmer. So, yes a samurai could marry and have a family but he could only marry a girl from the samurai cast. Dallying with a peasant was all right but he couldn't have married her. And you should see 'The Magnificent Seven'. It started a slew of westerns that came after it that were based on Japanese samurai movies, which then kicked off the spaghetti western made by Italians, which made Clint Eastwood a star.
@OldLadyReacts
@OldLadyReacts 17 дней назад
Oh! I didn't think about the class differences in him dallying with a farmer! That makes sense. And Yes, I'm definitely going to do the Magnificent Seven. As soon as I'm done with Andor for my Patreon channel.

This is one of my favorite movies. It has incredible attention to detail. Things like how Arthur was killed was done so in a realistic way. How people act in certain situations. Even very small details like when Michael is talking to his brother at the birthday party, he has his firearm in a lock box on the top shelf of the closet. It's not just on a desk or in a drawer. This movie is incredibly well written and acted and that's why I loved it. Like you said, it's not your pulse pounding thriller, but that's what I love about it.

I always felt Toby's version nailed the Peter Parker aspect(besides the age thing). Comic Peter was always the nerdy loner that never caught a break especially after he had to juggle personal life and superhero life. He didn't really get the smart aleck part of it. Andrew's version was the opposite, his Spider-Man was very pranky but Peter seemed very confident. The appeal the comics had for me was the relatable aspect I had with Peter so I preferred Toby's movies more.

I'd guess Monsanto, not DuPont. The memo WAS secret. Remember? She was explaining that they thought it was destroyed in a warehouse fire? Arthur wasn't supposed to have it, but someone missed a copy somewhere. That managing partner only had it because they brought all of Arthur's stuff up to his house so he could sort through it and they could keep working on the case with Arthur being AWOL and obviously pulled from the case. Once Tilda Swinton's character realized what Arthur had and knew about, and he heard that Arthur was going to blow the whistle, which also would have blown the whistle on them for not producing it in discovery, that's what made her decide to kill him.

So I’m not going to be at all condescending or mean …. If I come across that way it isn’t intentional. But unlike some I quite enjoyed this reaction from you… your skepticism threw me a little bit at times but all in all he made me laugh but a couple things number one you really should like another comment or said react to some actual footage of like the Joplin tornado or even the Gerald Texas tornado, which was just a fluke when it happened I think it would show you that there is very little that they got wrong in this movie. It’s pretty accurate scientifically pretty I’m not saying it’s perfect here just your basic F3 tornado back in. I guess it was 97 in the panhandle of Texas we didn’t know that it was happening because of warning time until we could see it ourselves and I live in like a city they drop out of nowhere and they are very unpredictable. We have gotten better with warning times now but back then no they had no warning. that truly is the only issue I really had with your reaction was the fact that you not convinced that they had no warning they had literally and when they said that they could increase warning times up to 15 minutes that was the fallacy in Pam don’t think that I’ve ever known that unless it’s just been, the tornado itself has been going on for a long time so people get the warning but right off the bat when they first dropped those first people in line to get hit they do not have but minutes.

One of my favorite movies - for the reasons you like it too. Smart, cool, and yet very humanistic. A clumsier take on the David-Goliath story of a has-been lawyer taking on a corporation would have taken the narrative in a straight-on, linear way. This movie wrapped the D-G tale in the more compelling character study of a man who is devoted father, a frustrated brother, and an anxious, caring friend.

Here is my vote for a movie to watch, very popular right now. Godzilla Minus One. Even if you have never seen a Godzilla movie or have seen several, it doesn't matter. This one stands alone. It is entirely in Japanese and is subtitled. It won the Academy Award for special effects, and was made on a budget of under $15 million (including the advertising campaign. I think the actual cost was under $12 mil). This is a great drama and the first Godzilla film that is more focused on the story of the characters than the monster.

I love the part where they drive through the house and a teddy bear hits the windshield and squeaks like a rubber ducky. 28:45 My wife and I saw this in the theaters in May 1996 shortly after it came out. Very impressive technology for the day, I remember leaving the theater and being surprised that is was blue skies and a sunny day, hahaha. My wife *loved* disaster films, so calling this Disaster P0rn is perfect for this film. That is all it was. They invented new tech to make realistic tornadoes and rushed to build a film around that ability. The story was pretty bad. We really liked Helen Hunt, but there was just no chemistry with Bill Paxton (RIP). The entire romantic subplot was silly and unnecessary. After the initial adrenaline rush of seeing the movie, we both looked back on it and made a lot of jokes about the actual story. OH! Here is a fun story for you. Fox television made an almost identical made-for-TV movie, possibly based on a leaked copy of the script for Twister. It was called "Tornado!" (with the exclamation point) and released on TV May 7th, 1996, three days before Twister's opening weekend. It starred Bruce Campbell and Ernie Hudson. It has the same plot about a device that releases scores of little sensors to be picked up by the tornado and they have to anchor it down so it won't fly away. The special effects were much cheaper and I think it had a better love story.

Nice. I love this movie. One of few that''s exactly what it's supposed to be, and doesn't try to be more than that. Well executed action. Of course, it has its silliness, but I'd say the least of the late 90's cadre of 'disaster' flicks...

This film and man of steel sure like putting dogs in danger of tornados which is odd. I have a friend who grew up in a state with tornadoes and he and his family ALWAYS made sure to take the dog with them so this is imo odd. I don't think dog owners forget their dogs as much as these films portray. I guess Hollywood feels middle Americans forget their dogs in tornadoes???

Exactly! The first thing I would think about in an emergency is my cat. I would never leave her behind! We actually had a fire in my last apartment building and the alarms in the hallway were a lot louder than inside my apartment. The second I stepped outside with her in my arms, she went CRAZY! I have the scratches on my face and neck to prove it. But it's OK, cuz she was coming with me no matter what.

@@OldLadyReacts EXACTLY! People who live in areas that have natural disasters keep good track of their pets in emergencies typically unless they are already pet owners. It's just interesting to see how Hollywood portrays people living in areas that have tornadoes. It's kind of goofy and unrealistic but it's okay it's a movie lol. It just FEEL like they portray people as if they haven't lived in an areas with tornadoes like if a Californian family experienced for the first time and forgot their pet in the chaos.
