The feed dogs have to be removed manually. I found a video showing how to remove the feed dogs, it was in Spanish so I kinda understood him enough to do it.
The thread won’t hook into the take-up lever at all. It’s as high as it will go. 😡 I’ve been sewing for 50 years and this machine has already wasted an hour of my time just trying to thread it.
Thank you!!! You rock🎸!! You're the only one that showed the pull down thing to the rear left behind the foot/needle! Am I supposed to have it in pulled down position when doing general sewing?? Never knew it was there! And I truly thought I'd read the manual well but as far as I see my xr3774 manual doesn't mention it. For "buttonhole" it just says "push" (on something I couldn't see) in a drawing. Could NOT have figured this out without your video tutorial! Plus the "buttonhole cutting" tip! Well, basically all of it! Brother should hire you! 👏 👏 I'm 60 & have never sewn anything other than a straight seam in my life & I took sewing classes at Singer at age 13! Lol! 😅 I love learning how to do practical things & you literally took ALL the normal frustration out of it! I'm now subscribed & will come back to learn more things & get ideas!
How do you set up the machine for free motion? and is it easy to switch between having it set up as a regular straight stitch and having it set up as free motion?
Putting the bottom in , works perfectly if you do the short sides first like in the pattern. ;) If I were watching last night I would have stopped you.
My needle was hitting my presser foot like that, my husband used a dremel tool and cut it out a little more and smooth it out so the needle wouldn't hit it.
I bought a vintage portable walking foot machine on fb marketplace for $75. It wasn’t working but I tuned it up and it works great now. I only drove 2hrs to pick it up. The brand is Thompson and it’s also a zigzag as well. Solid cast iron too. I am very happy with it.
It will depend on how often you need to quilt. With good basting techniques you could free motion most standard sizes. If you know you will want to sew other things like bags, clothing etc, then an industrial machine would be beneficial.
