@@VioFax thanks for the comment! I’ve had some good and some bad. I think having a good one makes my experience above average though. So you’re right! Also making a video about this.
theres a lot of options actually for it to survive but before it ends they can do experiment, the can make it into more of a valorant ,where you can kill more using your skills, or overwatchy kinda Arcady style ,start of round it feels like you as a unit is attacking, with background music ,when you get a kill ,get announcer sound effects like double kill or triple kill, and maps make more interactive ,where players interact with the objects in the map ,like there should be a map where you can press a button and when you go inside everything will explode like crossfire map in half life, also what if you change the character into different hero characters, lols
@@jedunboxing4127 Yeah they should definitely do a ‘last hurrah’. But I think all they are planning is a marketing campaign. No real big changes coming. The game already had so many eyes on it. Pretty much everyone already knows about it. Thanks for the comment.
@@spalatobros poor course choice led me to be a sort of mystery man, yup. I avoided all the courses I could and barely met anyone for 2 years 😎. I preferred staying home to practice gamedev
Good of you to bring the food part up, that one was really annoying for us (or at least for me). There was this one student back in my old class a few years ago, he would often bring in these amazing yummy asian take away foods into our old computer lab and most of us had no idea what they were till this day! But every time I noticed the smell in our computer room, it would just would just make me feel hungry which was really distracting and very hard to focus on working towards finishing up my animation project tasks. I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind if he had brought in simple non-smelly foods like an apple/protein bar or potato chips... Personally, I think it would be better to just keep those smelly foods out of the computer lab since I don't think many people would like the room to feel smelly in the first place. Or just eat elsewhere that's normally where most people are supposed to eat, like in a cafeteria for instance. For anyone that's reading this, we couldn't really leave the door open since it was a swipe door (which means it's meant to be kept shut at all times) and if it's left opened often, it may keep bothering with the security team. As for opening the windows, I don't think there anything there that could let us do that at that time and even if there were, it would be just too cold for us. But also would interfere with these ac/heater ceiling vents we had.
@@godlycious Haha. Wow! Yeah those Asian foods can stink. Sometimes good sometimes bad. Anyone who brings a seafood Asian snack was crazy. I know the dried ones are popular. But yeah as for that guy idk how you wouldn’t be embarrassed haha. Great story!
It's like buying a piece of hardware. You list out all the specs you think you need, try to tick the most checkboxes as possible within a budget, then realize you don't need half the features when you had finally bought it. Or your friend recommend a product and you just buy it without thinking about any of the specs
i started a game dev job 3 weeks ago, after 4 years of grinding learning C# and Unity i end up in studio with Unreal Engine and C++ hah but first week i did home office so i am atm 4/1 office/homeoffice
My 2 cents on this topic is that spectre divide died, or will die because of unfortunate circumstances and timing. SD is not a bad game, far from it. However it is not good ENOUGH. Gamers are growing tired of a new live service game releasing every month that demand time and grind. It is sad to see it die this quick. The developers are not flawless but i dont think the project was well set for success from the start.
@@azizkash286 Agreed! Despite other people’s videos on this. I actually like the gameplay. So it’s not a bad game. But yeah saturated market doesn’t help. However, If this game was made and released 5 years earlier will it have done better? I’m still skeptical.
@@dmitriyrasskazov8858 Happy to see you had success! Luckily for me I have 3 years experience now. For a startup company but that still counts right ? I know so many people who gave up after trying for 6 months. Thanks for the comment!
You know I've went back and played many great DOS games made by only a handful of people. These days it takes dozens of unpaid interns to create a game which really isn't going to be remembered later let alone played. Some of those abandonware DOS games are going to be played and remembered well into the future. There's something very wrong with the way we do business and treat people these days.
@@RetroGameHound Customers expect more due to market saturation. But not only that but I think big companies are waiting for Ai to do its thing. Hence the lack of hiring. But yeah many newbies get treated badly.
I teach at technical schools. I had a job ask to see my university grades, not diploma, grade breakdown, from 9 years ago, in order to calculate my pay. Even though I have taught for 6 years.. And one of the places I taught, was the university I graduated from...
@@PastaEngineer 😂😂 I’ve never heard of that one before. Pay based on GPA. Guess the school thought it was grade pay average 😂. That hilarious and a little sad. thanks for sharing !
I have a hard time imagining ever writing such a job posting. I think I'd just be like: Heres a list of what you'd have to do, heres what you get paid. I feel like writing 2+ paragraphs about values is a great way to filter out programmers... or maybe it's actually genius... a way test to see if they are good at spotting requirements and keywords within horrible terrible client documentation
@@pansimula Hmmm… that could be true it wouldn’t surprise me. Although I think it’s more of a “let’s inject our big ass ego and show we are the best 🙄”. If you were to write a job post you’d make a great boss! Thanks for sharing your opinion.
FPS formula was perfected by counter-strike and enhanced by valorant ( 128-tick server and better anti-cheat, I dont like hero shooters much ) why would u not just copy CS? give me good servers and good anti cheat with random soldiers from different cultures and am sold! the FPS genre is saturated with tons of games innovating in it is really REALLY hard and trying to would end up failing. Stick to the tried and true way of tac-shooters and people would actually play the game. am just a gamer ranting about my fav genre and i hate seeing FPS games DOA.
@@xliMaGiclx Yeah true, they claimed their inspiration was CS. But they didn’t copy much of the stuff that makes it good. Although, In order for this game to succeed it can’t be just be a complete copy of CS either. I actually like the concept of being able to customise your character, as it makes it unique from most tac shooters. It’s just poorly executed. And that’s what most of things in this game suffer from. Poor execution. Thanks for your input.
@@spalatobros In regard of character customization i like the idea too. but it was so bad that i clicked random and just ran with whatever. Also the art style, idk how anyone can fuckup a cell-shaded graphics! I have never seen such a bad implementation of this kind of graphics. I think they just rushed everything to release the game.
Was going to do a vid on this also but you did a better job then I would have. Sad that the game flopped, was interesting. One of my issues with the game was you could remove half the guns and the game would probably be better off for it. But more guns more skins u have to buy. The prices are still bad for what you get also. Just a silly studio.
@@Scrahdabley Thanks for the kind words :) Don’t let my video prevent from you from sharing your perspective. I didn’t speak about removing half the guns, you’re right that they are useless so you make good points. Would love to hear your side! Cheers! Yeah I don’t know why the studio made all these bad decisions. Can’t be inexperience as so many with more experience do badly too. I’d say lack of a good vision.
it will just fail because of the community. there are just so many toxic duo's in the internet no debating. and in a 3v3 game solo players will be pissed of in record time by this and leave. suddenly you cant find any matches anymore because the team size is 3 and not 2,4 or 5
my only disagreement is that the characters are bland so that you either want to buy a helmet/mask for them or they want them to be unappealing enough so that you don't feel bad when you want to buy a helmet/mask for them. It's easier money.
-They made some ugly characters for sure but the art style itself isn't the problem. Its subjective at best. -There are settings for the outline. Maybe change them instead? Red is way easier to see to me. -PUBG's music is no more memorable than Spectre. Comparison to Halo, probably the most genre-defining game since Doom, is a bit of a Reach. (ha, wasn't intended)
@@treis42 1) True, art is subjective, but the fact that the environment and players are different art styles is objective. Why make that decision in the first place? I do believe some players will think it’s worse than others. For me it looks stupid haha. 2) Someone else made this point too. However, it shouldn’t be up to the player to make this change. It should be good by default (devs fault). 3) If that’s true, then how did you go humming the spectre melody? Nice pun btw.
@@spalatobros 1. Weird choice, maybe. Inherently bad, no. That's my only point. Having to rely on outlines to tell characters from the background could be seen as a design flaw. However: 2. It's just preference. Yellow is proven to be the first color noticed by the human brain so I get the idea. I think our gamer brains are just trained red=bad and it helps me (and most people I've played with). I think the devs did a good job with customizability so to not mention that it's easily changed in the settings is a disservice at best and misleading at worst. 3. I didn't, but I didn't with pubg either. It's definitely nothing super memorable on either one. Again, subjective.
I think having custom characters stole a lot of the "character" of the game. You don't get attached to your character and you'll never be able to quite make them look the way you want them too. The sound scape of the game is dead silent. Nothing going on. Environmental story telling is non existent. The difference between walking around a map in Counter Strike vs Spectre Divide is night and day. Only 3 players on a team so even if 2 players are talking, its still dead silent most of the time. Most of the time, no ones gonna be coming at all. 1 player controls 2 people, so if even 1 player is having a bad game, it sucks twice as much... Both for them and for the team. Then if 1 player on the enemy team is kicking your ass, they now have to be killed twice too. Imagine your new to these games, and not only do you suck but you suck so much that you die twice for it. The learning curve is already hard but I feel like this game in particular just breeds frustration instead of fun. I'd much rather just play Counter Strike Wingman then this. The skins also suck.
@@thacoolest13 yep. Totally agree with the custom characters giving no personality. Despite many ways to make them ugly. Yeah there’s no environmental story telling. The only thing of note would be they added plenty of wear and tear on the maps as if they have been used. But no signs of anything story wise. Counter strike is superior although I miss it when the art style was a-little less cartoonish. But it’s fine! Seems like you feel the gameplay loop is a huge problem. Can definitely see where you’re coming from. New players must find this confusing asf. For me, I actually vibe the 2 lives system. But we should be playing as robots as that would make more sense lol. Skins do suck as they are in the same art style as the default ones.
@@Ari_711 Can see how you could come to this opinion. I personally feel it’s on life support at the moment. But whether it’s dead or it dies in a month, doesn’t matter. Same outcome.
it straight up boils down to game theory. Each individual in the chain will do what is best for them, not the whole, and so, the whole chain makes the worst decision possible for everyone else. Because altruism with a cost is second to self-centred with none.
The gall that linkedin recruiters have to require years worth of specialized experience and then label it as unpaid 😂 The only way to get these jobs as a beginner is to BS your way through the process
I set my LinkedIn status to "open to work" and accepted a job offer at a AAA game dev studio within one month. So they're not all a joke, but I agree some of these listings are bad.
@@ross.metcalf That’s amazing news! Congratulations! Yeah agreed, not every post is bad. I looked you up on LinkedIn (pretty sure it’s you based off the info you gave me). Looks like you quite a few years of industry experience. I know for a fact that programmers have it slightly easier than artists. (Not saying it’s dead easy landing a job as a programmer) I’m curious, Let’s say hypothetically, your experience got wiped and you’re a fresh graduate, do you think you would have landed that new AAA studio job? Cheers!
So would The finals be considered a dead game, many people say so but queue times are quite quick lijke 3 minutes max, I would be quite to hear your opinion since you seem to know what you are saying
Hey there, I personally don’t play the finals. But if what you’re saying is true then no, the game isn’t dead. 3 min queue time is good. Also the finals doesn’t have a glaring art problem (at least from what I can tell). Cheers!
Yeah. This is how I learned 3d modeling. By tracing other's Hipoly models with low poly equivalent. I think it's called Retopology. Making 3d models is very relaxing. Fun stuff. But that banana is just rude. I think now I can make a proper banana. I can even make a gun with just an image reference. Made Black-Fish Carbine from Darkwatch. I am very proud of this bitch.
While this was playing and the thing about it not being paid came up, the first joke that came into my mind was "we're going to pay you... with REFERENCES!!!". And then they unironically do that. Yes, you get to add something to your portfolio. Grreeeeeat. I'm sure your landlord will be very impressed by your portfolio and not charge you. You could feast on those references for months.
@@Sercil00 Haha great comparison! It’s also worse how they said “Not a paid position YET”. Like they try to give you hope. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they do this. But heaps of people still apply! So whether or not we think it’s wrong, it works for them. Crazy man!
Hey, I'd say we can call it officially dead once you que and cant find a game for 20-30 mins. When I recorded the video it look less than 10 minutes. Its really unfortunate, I really do dig the gameplay which is why I didn't mention it in the video. But yeah the art has the serious problems. Don't know why other youtubers don't mention this but everyone knows it inside lol.
You lost me in the first 2 minutes. Bananas aren’t transferable to other mediums? It’s cool to prefer hardbody modeling or whatever but a banana is an organic shape and organic shapes are worth learning how to do.
Sure, I definitely agree with you that organic modeling is worth learning. But if its your first ever time in the software, would you rather make a banana or an industrial crate? When I mean other mediums, I mean things like game Dev. Like, what are the chances your game will need a banana model? Vs more generic models like the industrial crate I mentioned above. Would love to hear your thoughts on the other points too! Cheers! Happy modeling!
Excellent pathway! You'll do extremely well in this. I'd also recommend doing some simple game dev learning so you can give any assets you make more purpose. Which will look great to future employers. Cheers!
@@cloudcity4194 Ah I guess gamers can’t critique games these days! How about outlining what I got wrong? And we can have a discussion about it. And please feel free to show me your accomplishments. Thanks for the comment!
Hey! Just started getting into blender with the "DONUT" of blender guru. Can you recommend what video I should watch next to get a good idea of how to 3d model object using references? I REALLY want to 3d model my Casio 991 cw Calculator cause i thought it would be a good start.
@@justusimperator537 ah blender with their donut video, I swear it’s probably the least useful video. It’s really rare that artists use toruses and procedural modeling (which is not beginner friendly). it is good to watch videos but to learn faster what id do what I do in my video: go on sketchfab. Look for what you like, download the fbx, import it in blender. Look how they’ve made it. Then you can make your own using simple meshes. A calculator is a great starting model as it mostly uses cubes. I looked at the one you want to do it’s a little more complicated. First I would mode a slightly simpler calculator, as it’s your first time. Don’t bother about making it perfect and keep it simple (: goodluck! I’d love to see how you do. Feel free to join my discord and you can send your progress there (:
