By now, you are all likely the new Ensigns onboard a Cutter. You need to be listening to your Department Chief, asking questions, and always be working on your qualifications. Don't be a stuck-up jerk, conduct yourselves as young, enthusiastic Ensigns so that you will grow into old, enthusiastic Full Birds and Flags setting the right example.
I watch all the service accadamies graduations. I was not able to enlist or be appointed to the military service. I have a congenital heart defect that prevented from joining. I attended college to become a teacher. I taught Industrial Arts, wood shop for 42 years. My choice of military service would have been the Coast Guard. I look at the noncommissioned rates and officers with the highest esteem over all the other services. You open up your heart and mind, then roll up your sleeves and get the job done. Bravo USCG.
