@@mannyram9717 yeah, a little rough into the deck, although also didn’t help that having the tail gunner on means the ramp is always in the down position.
they look great! what IMHO lakcs a bit (considering the Afghanistan scenario) are the insurgents "improvised" veichles..that would be a nice addition! :)
I’m sure it’s classified. But I wanna know if our current “truck mounted radars” are even capable of resolving or identifying drones the size of say a football or smaller. Because if they can’t and can only identify and track “aircraft” that are larger as in the size of a car...they seem pretty much useless for much of the future threats. The “radar” in whatever type and capacity needs to be much smaller (man portable) and capable of “seeing” or “hearing” or “sensing with whatever technology” small drones. Those are what’s busting tanks… not attack helo’s or threats already widely addressed and under threat on the modern battlefield. The gap is the tiny and nimble and cheap drones.
That is why you have layers of Air defence with different purposes. IRIS-T SLM is medium range and mostly for aircraft and ballistic missiles, for smaller sized objects that presumably also have a shorter range (energy constraints) like drones, SHORAD options like Skyranger or Mantis are more appropriate. Their radars are capable of identifying and tracking smaller objects. MANTIS while stationary has a radar unit that can detect up to 0,01 m² RCS at a range of 20km for example. Skyranger wich would be the mobile version of a SHORAD system, so the one that would be actually protecting their maneuver warfare forces (like tanks and infantry), is capable of detecting small drones in a range of up to 5km.
@@hammurabii.3173 Detecting small drones up to 5km. That sounds good. How portable is that system? How complex? The solution that the infantryman are looking for is a man pack system. A man portable system that they can operate. If you have one “radar operator” with a “bubble” of 5 km. And there are hundreds of drones. You can’t get on the radio and inform anybody about anything. It’s worthless. The infantryman need their own “picture” of the battle space. Not coverage provided by someone else in a truck.
How do you go about recording in VR if this isnt trackir. I use shadowplay and the resolution maxed and fan never get it full screen aspect ratio on uploads
@@demdirtyboyz247 yeah, I just use shadow play. Need to set some options in game, such as remove the VR mask and to render it as a square (I think) to get it to go full screen.
@@Jinxy-Gaming I have the masked removed. If you go to my shorts you'll see it's squared but never full screen in the aspect ratio. Same with my Afghanistan video, it's all small. I wanna record in max quality using shadowplay, how do I set up square like you mention? I also sometimes use streamlabs or obs and it works but I need to run oculus mirror and I Hatr the extra programs. I prefer replay on with shadowplay, just so easy to capture an event vs recording.
I keep getting show down by the Gadfly and then torn up by the Buk around there at the show of force part. Any tips? Wonder if they are more dangerous now?
I see you got the AH-64 collective grip, the counterbalance, the rotor plus collective... My question is, to build a decent AH-64 only DCS sim pit to be as most like the Apache as possible, what exact kit should I buy and is there more actual AH-64 Apache being made and released further down the line by Virpil and any other manufacturers? I ask as the only 'specific made for Apache' kit I've found is the collective grip... Are there Apache rudder pedals, Apache cyclic stick, Apache long cyclic base and Apache cockpit buttons etc possible to buy? I'm going for as authentic as possible Apache sim rig setup as it's the only DCS module I will be focusing on so I'd like to know if Apache devices exist other than just the Apache collective grip. Thanks in advance and nice to see a Scot covering Apache setups on YT, only content I've seen so far has been USA content and from real Apache pilots. Watched your vid a 2nd time and noticed the Tornado and helmet and dial on the desk back left - guessing you served and flew... if yes, what did you get to fly while serving and did you get to operate the Apache as well? Cheers and thanks for the video.
Cheers for the comment. Take a look at Tek Creations and total controls. Total controls do the MFDs and have talked about doing the CDU keyboard. Tek Crestions mostly do the panels for you to wire up yourself, but they do have some plug and play bits. Virpil have teased that they may to an apache cyclic depending on sales of the collective grip, but it’s still early days. Komodo sim does one, but it’s quite pricey and I’m not sure of the quality, they also do a TEDAC. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Winwing join the party eventually. But as it stands now there’s not a great deal out there. And no, wasn’t in aviation unfortunately, I just have it as a display because it looks cool.
@@Jinxy-Gaming Thanks for this reply with great info in it. I ended up on Komodo site and had heart attack at their kit. The CPG dual controller display device for £500+ just seems crazy given it's likely 1 of 5-7 purchases needed for the full Apache sim pit setup. Curiously, I have to wonder why the Komodo stuff is significantly more expense than the Virpil stuff. Any ideas on the difference as I thought Virpil was the good stuff but Komodo is more pricey? Thanks again for your thoughts as it all helps.
@@marknewellmusic can’t shed any light I’m afraid. I think it’s mostly because it’s just one guy making them, so a lot more dev time and probably a smaller market share. He’s also got some other aircraft controls that suggest it’s maybe marketed more towards professional sims. Only thing I’ve read about them is you can tell they are 3D printed. Never seen one in the flesh, and not likely too, as much as I’d like a TEDAC
@@Jinxy-GamingThanks again, I am still researching but great to know Komodo details and does look like you bought the better Apache collective grip in the Virpil design. The collective does look like the plus version you own is the way to go and counter balance and chair mount parts so at least I know what I'm after with those part choices. The cyclic I guess it's a real waiting game in the hopes that Virpil look after us Apache folks with an AH-64 cyclic release some time in 2024 but nothing announced yet I see as they are likely waiting to see how the Apache collective grip sales do. Regarding the cyclic mount I would look for Virpil choice but not sure if the 200mm extension is the way to go and what else I would need for mounting eg a floor mount. I am guessing it would be madness to attempt to have Apache cyclic mounted on a desk for convenience and I guess it would totally ruin the realism of the experience? Virpil rudders do look great but there is plenty of choice on the rudder page which leads me to be quite confused as to what to pick - eg most expensive Virpil rudders = best or are there other criteria for picking Virpil Apache rudder choice? I think I will slowly be building up my setup starting with collective and grip so I do have plenty of time to firm up other choices but it sure is a puzzle and I really wish there were Collections pages on the Virpil store split down to DCS modules so all products for eg Apache were all on 1 page on the Virpil store. They'd likely get more sales and take the confusion away for most people when all they want to do is focus on 1 DCS module. I would love to only buy all Virpil kit but I have a feeling that they won't make everything for an Apache sim pit sadly... we can but hope eh!
Did you manage to figure out how to use the Virpil profile for it? I've been through the setup but havecto manually bind it. I can't get the cursor hat to work ether in game. I tried setting it as buttons but DCS still won't recognise it when trying to add it for the cursor
Not had a play with the 2 separate profiles yet to work out exactly what they do. As per the hat I bound it as the HOCAS cursor slew X and Y with no issues.
@Jinxy-Gaming ahhh damn I was didn't see that setting was just looking through the Axis list for cursor. I'll have a look at that. Thanks for the quick response.
@@VRTrucker just had a play with the profiles as well. The second one with the chop/jett options makes those buttons both a momentary press or a press and hold. So you can set it to open the flap as a press, or press and hold to open the flap and depress the button underneath
I think it’s just the construction and size makes it feel a bit less solid. That and the control cluster on the UH-60 grip being mostly metal, and more compact feels more sturdy.
I didn’t add that as I’d read there is a bug where it should show you this when in A2G mode with JDAM selected without having to click designate as well.
