I think 12 is too many, I always thought 6 was perfect with 1 and 2 getting a bye because it’s always 5 or 6 that get left out and are still very elite teams, I know 13 and 14 will complain now but last year undefeated fsu getting left out was wild

The playoff obviously will not kill off the sport, only greed can accomplish that. Every other level has a massive playoff bracket up to 32 teams with some of them even looking to expand their playoffs. Playoffs do not render the regular season pointless, post season football period does that. Once the sport moved away from playing 8 or 9 games and a bunch of old guys who never touched a ball voted on who is "National Champion" and had any form of a National Championship game the regular season was deminished. Rivalries are only important to the teams that play within them at the end of the day. If they want to play them, they will make room on the schedule and if your favorite school abandoned a rivalry then it wasn't important to the people in charge at that school. New Years 6 Bowls were always a money grab and the only reason they are a part of the playoffs is so the host would stop blocking the playoff from existing in the first place when the NCAA got back the rights to crown the champion in their own sport that they sold off to the BCS, like Marvel selling Spider-Man to Sony. "You play to win the game!" -Herm Edwards, if you aren't trying to make it to the playoffs or win a national championship then why are you fielding a team? If you are just doing what the New York Jets are doing and just playing so you can rake in the money I think you should just shut down the program and let those guys go to programs that actually care about winning. Any competitive sport isn't played for the sake of running out there for fun, it's to win titles. Honestly, teams rake in so much money now, if they aren't putting that into keeping their guys healthy to play up to 16 games a year then I hope they never win another football game. What is the appeal of college football is the traditions, passion and that it is different from the pros, and it is and always will be the ones chasing money to line their pockets with that are holding the knife that kills the sport. I can't wait for all this to collapse and for these mega conferences to break back up into smaller ones.

FBS was built on tradition, the idea of crowning an official champion is breaking them down. We lost a staple conference(PAC) thanks to the expansion. Depending on what matters to a person most, tradition or crowning a champion.

No no no. NY 6 bowl games are not a PART of the playoffs, they’ve been REPLACED by the playoffs. They’ve completely lost any meaning. It’s not really the Rose Bowl anymore. Now it’s a playoff quarterfinal. Nobody is going to care anymore about winning the “Rose Bowl,” because they’ll be so focused on winning the national championship. So now instead of six major bowls crowning six teams as winners, there’ll be only ONE winner and the other 11 elite teams will go home as losers. (And btw, it’s always gonna be one of the top 5 seeds) This is absolutely killing college football. 👎

If this system started earlier say in the 50s or 60s. The National Champion landscape would look way different for example, USC would've won National Champion 4 maybe 5 times between 03-09.

You j a c k a s s e s want to argue about the playoffs? Well, here is my solution to it, and NO ONE can argue against the solution. 1. The NCAA needs to remake all of Divisions into having 128 Teams each, never less than that amount, and also never more than that amount, always 128 Teams, period, full stop. 2. The NCAA needs to make all of those Divisions having only 16 Conferences. 3. Said Conferences only need to have 8 Teams each. 4. Said Conferences should either stick with North and South Groups, or East and West Groups. 5. Now, if there are a bunch of bottom feeder schools, then they need to be moved around into their own divisions in order to ensure more fair, competitive, and balanced Teams, Seasons, and such in the NCAA. 6. The NCAA Division I - FBS, NCAA Division I - FCS, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NCCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, and any other independent colleges, and universities, need to all be reformed into 8 different Divisions, and here are their names: Football Bowl System, Football Championship System, Football Victors System (formerly NCAA Division II), Football Legends System (formerly NCAA Division III), Football Defenders System (formerly the NCCAA), Football Guardians System (formerly the NAIA), Football Heroes System (formerly the NJCAA), and Football Players System (formerly the non-affiliated colleges and universities in the USA, and maybe Canada, and Mexico, as well as the Caribbean). 7. The Independent Teams all need to be put into Conferences, without question. 8. Weeks 9 and 10 of Seasons need to be considered as Bubble Weeks, in order to determine who wins the spots into the Conference Championships. 9. Week 8 can also be designated as a Bubble Week in particularly competitive Conferences as well. 10. Said Bubble Weeks can also be considered as the First Three Rounds of the NCAA Playoffs. 11. Week 7 can be considered as a Runoff Week for the Bubble Weeks/First Three NCAA Playoff Rounds, in case Conferences are extremely competitive. 12. Week 11 can be considered the new Conference Championship Week, as well as the new Fourth Round of the NCAA Playoffs, the Quarter Finals of the NCAA Division Championships, the First Round of the NCAA Championship Playoffs, and the First Week of the Bowl Games. 13. Week 12 can be considered the new Fifth Round of the NCAA Playoffs, as well as the Semifinals of the NCAA Division Championships, the Second Round of the NCAA Football Championship Playoffs, and the Second Week of the Bowl Games. 14. Week 13 can be considered as the new Sixth Round of the NCAA Playoffs, as well as the Finals of the NCAA Division Championships, the Quarter Finals of the NCAA Championship Playoffs, and the Third Week of the Bowl Games. 15. Week 14 can be considered as the new NCAA Division Championships, as well as the Semifinals of the NCAA Championship Playoffs, and the Fourth Week of the Bowl Games 16. Week 15 can be considered as the NCAA Division Championship Finals, as well as the the Fifth Week of the Bowl Games. 17. Week 16 can be all of the games like the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Bowls, which will all be done in an East versus West format. 18. Week 17 will be the NCAA Championship. You all are welcome, now quit your politically charged arguing, everyone!

If you’re going to include the lower tier conferences, then your playoff format should include a rule: win your conference, you’re in the tournament. If you’re not going to include the lower tier conferences, then you can have the power 4 conferences’ championship games be the national quarterfinals.

With a 12 team playoff you have to stop thinking that tournament winner is the best the team. Often it will be but sometines not. The concept of national champion is meaningless in its original sense. We will be crowning a tournament champion.

The problem is obvious...it is about MONEY, not fairness. Milk it for all it is worth. These are college kids, not professionals with nothing else to do. Watch, no one not in the top 4, more than likely, the to 2 will ever win this. Be serious, dominate is dominate for a reason. Boise State is never going to plow through the field to win and you know it.

I say it all the time but not as succinctly Dan Wolken from USA TODAY so I quote:' "On the other end of the spectrum, we know that some of the sport's biggest rivalry clashes near the end of the schedule that often had all-or-nothing stakes will naturally be reduced by the reality that both teams are playoff bound. Michigan-Ohio St. and Alabama-Auburn won't hit home quite the same way when they're playing for seeding rather than their season. These are among the trade-offs college football has come to terms with over the last decade as it has shifted from a sport where every week felt like a single-elimination playoff to a sport where unblemished greatness is not required to have a theoretical chance at the national championship." Exactly. Everybody gets a trophy. Greatness not required anymore. They didn't expand the playoffs, they reduced them. The regular CFB season was a playoff of the whole country, only sport left like it. And now it's gone for the sake of a cash grab via attracting Swifties and joecasual who are only gonna watch the playoffs anyway. And if this keeps up even the dedicated fans like myself are gonna lose interest in the regular season, like where we're at with the NBA. Heck even the NBA players sit out half of the regular season games cuz with over half the league getting into the playoffs they know regular season is nothing but exhibition games. So now, at the end of the season, instead of watching the big rivalry game teams play for a shot at the natty, we're supposed to be enthralled with something like the Fresno St./Boise St. game to see who has the honor of getting whacked in the first round of an overpopulated playoff. Riveting. Obviously, I don't like it and don't think it's fair to the teams, as if that ever mattered. To me, the objective of the National Championship should be to acknowledge the best team of the season. Not the team who happened to be the hottest during a couple playoff games at the end of the season. And to attain that objective, I think that the results gathered from the course of a season among teams playing a round robin schedule in a conference is a more accurate barometer than a couple playoff games. The playoffs should be used as kind of a tiebreaker amongst champions because anything can happen in a single game so it's not as accurate a barometer. In other words, I'm of the opinion that if you aren't even the champion of your own dam conference, why should you be considered champion of the country when all you did was steal of couple playoff games, both of which could be against teams that already beat you in the regular season? In fact, I think even under the 4 team we've already had that happen. Didn't Georgia and Alabama split but Georgia got the championship because they won the second time they played, which is always advantageous to the team that lost the first game. Georgia gets the championship but how are they more deserving than Alabama when they split?

Won’t be too long before #13 gripes that the committee, algorithms or AI wrongly ranked #12. Then after a couple of these incidents (angering well-placed alums of #13s) there will be a 16 team playoff to be followed by a 20 team format with a round of play-in games. Where does it end? The NFL playoffs is now 14 teams or almost 44%. The NFL plays 14 games to eliminate just 18 teams. The wild card was necessary when each conference had 3 divisions. Of course, if the NFL is viewed as an entertainment enterprise and supporting sports betting and fantasy leagues, then a larger playoff pool makes $en$e. With NIL and soon to be compensated collegiate athletes…

The fundamental problem remains -- all the rankings are based on a popularity vote which also turns out to be self-serving. Coaches (and partisan sports reporters) vote FOR the teams that their team has played in an attempt to show that their team played 'strong' opponents, even if they're really not that good. They should just redo the entire system to make it something more like the NFL -- the schedule is determined by a standardized process by division, not by each team negotiating with who they think will give them blowout wins in completely non-competitive games; standings are determined by wins and losses with a clear tie-breaking process. Then, at any point in the season, it's clear who would go to the playoffs if they were held that week. There's no mystery, no back room deals, etc.

Yet another FAKE playoff where the SAME schools every year make the FAKE playoff and they are still selecting the same group of schools every year. Why is the highest level of college football the only team sport in the country that can't figure it out!! Until they do the amount of National Champions at the highest level will remain a 134 way tie at 0!!!

I think that the Big Ten in SEC will eat the ACCs Big teams But then the ACC will absorb a lot of the Mountain West and have an E and West Division.. with the two winners from the standings of both playing in the ACC championship for a playoff spot in the future.. that would be ideal

Genuinely not sure what point you're trying to make here. The thesis of the video is that there have always been debates over who deserves a shot to prove themselves as champions, and the new format is addressing those complaints. Sure, he mentions that the P5 schools have always had a better shot, but I don't think he ever said anything about G5 never making it in. Even if he did, it doesn't undermine or disprove his point at all. Not trying to fight you, just confused why you bring that up.
