Been there done that. Checked off my bucket list. Nice place just wish I had more time spent there and more money to take a trip up river for a frw days. Lots of grizzlies there.
Traveled this road in the fall of 1968 with my stepdad, I was 14. We had to clear rocks from a slide half way down the mountain for hours to keep going to the bottom. We had to have our station wagon pulled across the bogs at the top with a dozer because of the flooding along the road. He eventually moved to Nimpo Lake and worked with the road crew for many years before his death in the early 2000s. Great country, have been there many times over the years.
The road in this condition is like the best ever......i went down this hill when it was still only single vehicle width wide and the odd widened parts to let people pass each other and if not one vehicle had to back up to the wide spot or the start of the switchback
My wife grew up in nearby Ocean Falls, people there envied Bella Coola because there was a road out. We spent a week there in 2022 and did a day trip to Anaheim Lake, spectacular country.
Well, yes it is steep, but not the whole way. I drove this road down and up on the same day, in the winter, rear wheel drive only and studded winter tires, no chains, no problems at all.
