I truly get it. I’m still outlining my startup budget, and I realize now that reporting an accurate overhead budget as a section in itself when applying for 501c3 certification, will help keep us in line for approval. I wish rewriting the By Laws would be as easy. Since developing the original idea, producing advanced-education, and opportunities in the fine arts., the idea has expanded into working with special needs kids to discover their skills and desires. We have our direction, policies, and programming structures of a good number of genres in the he arts, so the overhead investments are about to begin, and I am the sole source of the startup funds. 🖖🥁

To what degree does the Executive Director control or run the meeting? I'm a new President and find that our ED wants to run the meeting. I got elected directly to President (big mistake) after serving several years on another NP board but we did not have an ED. Maybe I'm being sensitive on the subject but I find that questions asked by the board are directed to the ED rather than the Chair. Right now I'm feeling like a second wheel that is not needed. Any suggestions appreciated.
Hmm, it should be a collaborative effort I'd say. Do you meet in advance of the meeting to co-create the agenda and decide who will say what? That might help a bit too, in setting expectations.
@@AmberMelanieSmith We do meet and set the agenda and have written reports from myself and the ED. A lot of the discussion is not adding anything to the meeting and find that a few monopolise the discussion. I've asked to avoid crosstalk but it does not stop it.
Good job ma,very helpful. I have been volunteering for about eight years and want to start an NGO to support vulnerable children with emergency needs to help provide emergency relief.Thank you.
I think the basic business plan format could probably work in either US or Canada, though of course the filing requirements for nonprofit status will be different.
If your holding a luncheon, DO NOT LET YOUR GUESTS IN EARLY- I had a lady move 4 table numbers because she wanted a better seat in front of the speaker! caused a 25 min. delay in food service (dietary restrictions at some of the tables that were moved among other issues) & a KEY donors table was moved to the outside near the wall. Place 'security' at the door until the program begins.
