In my district you are not allowed to bring in your own desk. Because the school purchases them for each room they expect you to utilize the schools furniture that they purchase for each classroom. We can have microwaves and fridges if we choose and bring in stuff for the room but No extra furniture.
My bins I use for my library are the mini sterilite crates from Walmart (they're on sale right now for $1.49) and I use the sterilite purple lock top bins from target for my student supplies! I also have black book bins from walmart that I can use for student book bins if needed this year, since my desks do not have storage underneath them. For my mailboxes, I use black sterilite crates and my master copies are all organized in binders! I actually don't get any bins from Amazon and going into my third year teaching, I actually don't need very many more bins thank goodness!
I had made one that has "writing" on it. I am moving from fifth that I have benn teaching for seven years back to kinder. The fifth grader made it for my writing center. They then took smaller ones that have different writing ideas ie. Make a card, draw a picuture, label the room, make a list, etc.
Thank you! I love it to match I feel like for my personal preference it just doesn’t “match” unless they’re the exact same. Most of my borders were donated to me by a student my first year so I haven’t had to buy new borders even though I’ve switched classrooms 3 times already!
My parents had those racks in our garage for over 20 years! They said they have no idea where they got them and I haven’t found something similar anywhere I’ve looked (I want a third rack lol)
Her room was filled with a bunch of novel study books from a previous teacher that she didn’t want to store in her room in case she didn’t use them. If we don’t use them this year we are going to donate them to the local teacher store next year(: So if I want to use the novel studies I can but if not the room will be freed up next year. (Plus as a baby teacher I don’t have too much to store she is a veteran teacher and has accumulated a lot herself) We did get to move my teacher desk in there as a workspace which was the only thing I was truly hoping for!

I love your bulletin boards! They look amazing! I’m terrible at bulletin boards. Where did you get those racks that hold your big Sterlite crates please?

Hi! I am actually starting new this year I used 1 subjects last year and it wasn’t enough space for math and my ELA is actually going to be compiled of one subject for reading (we use wonders so this will include things like our genre studies, our weekly story graphic organizers, and essential question written responses) one subject will be for writing, and one subject will be a science/social studies combo. In their notebooks I give handouts they glue in, graphic organizers, give notes, and I make sure to explicitly teach how to reference their notebooks to help them look back on. As for math, I use the left side of the notebook as a Cornell style of note taking where the bottom “summary” section is actually usually used as a final exit ticket. The right side is where we do a few practice problems. After the notebook sections are completed we can do whiteboard practice, scoot games, write the rooms, Prodigy assigned questions practice, study island practice, stuff like that to practice the concept before we formally assess! I was planning on posting a full video about my notebooks but that’s a very general/vague outline of them so you have it before the school year starts!

Typically I wouldn't but I did last year and I will assess where the kids are at this year. Our district has still been seeing negative effects from COVID affecting these kids' writing. This should be the last year I have to teach writing this way (hopefully) but in the beginning of the year this year and last year I had to explicitly teach writing as a step-by-step process because the students in my class last year didn't know how to plan a writing piece. They didn't know how to utilize writing graphic organizers. They didn't know how to structure a paragraph because they were all online and formatting writing pieces online is much different than handwriting them. For now, I have been teaching writing as a linear process also so I can teach how to format writing on both paper and the computer because their assessments are all online from 3rd grade and on.
Thanks so much! 😊 All of our schools in the district have so many built ins and cabinets. This is the first classroom I've had such a large back counter the computers are on, usually they are just big enough for the Chromebook carts, BUT this classroom's counter is large enough to have space for students to work at! I am very blessed :)
To make life easier when it comes to putting up bulletin boards, if you're using a white background anyway, it's faster to just use a large white flat sheet in whatever size you want, which doesn't show any bubbles and is easier to hang up by thumbtacks and then staple it once you get it straight. One time I had to cover an entire back wall and used three queen sized sheets. And for smaller boards cheap material or sheets works and then you can just fold them up and use them again the following year.
Still lots to unpack but I'm still not sure if I can put stuff on the floor yet so I'm very limited on what I can do! Thank you for watching until the end!!🌟
I'm pretty tired in the mornings, but after I get up and moving things feel pretty semi-normal. I'm very thankful my principal lets me bring him with me. The first real day back for teachers is Meet the Teacher night so I felt like I had to come in early because I only stay a couple hours at a time with him.

Since you teach ELD, it might be fun to do a board of cultures or heritages, like about the class. I'm thinking about how our ELD kids come from Honduras, Mexico, Guatemala, pacific islands, Ukraine, Russia, China, etc. So a big map with profiles or something? Could be really fun.
