On November 19, 1981, His Holiness John Paul II established the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen. The diocese is comprised of a Catholic population of 650,000 and encompasses Middlesex, Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties, which span through the upper central and western parts of New Jersey.
