I admit that gamelan (and kolintang for that matter) is not my favorite kind of music ,but, it is so well done here! The video and the intense musicianship are captivating!
Spectacular gamelan beautifully filmed and recorded. When I checked the location, I wasn't surprised to find this wonderful group of musicians are from Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. For anyone visiting Bali, don't get trapped in the seaside resorts of Kuta, Seminyak, Sanur or Nusa Dua ... visit Ubud for at least one music & dance performance. Awesome experience guaranteed!!
It's interesting to learn that Steve Reich was influenced by this when composing _"Music for 18 Musicians"_ which also inspired Tangerine Dream's soundtrack for the 1983 film Risky Business - _"Love On A Real Train"_
I am Javanese, and just personal, I don't feel pleasant hearing the sound from the instrument, although It's good. I don't know why but Javanese prefer calm sound from the instrument.
As Filipino I wish I had experience pure Austronesian culture without Spaniards and Western colonization no more influence by Religious like Christianity or Muslim.. until now Indonesian (bali) experience beautiful historical culture and they ought to be proud of it ❤
Bali is heavily influenced by Hinduism… not pure “Austronesian” Look up Toraja people, their culture is almost “pure”, only they’re practising Protestantism.
