Οnly the ancient city is beautiful, with its remaining ancient temples (Acropolis area, Thission, Hephestos temple, Ancient Market and Zeus temple). All the rest is for demolition, disinfection and rebuilding. Even some so called "oasis" (i laugh when i hear this) like Pedion Areos, National Garden and Philopapou need disinfection and much work to be really beautiful. Even places which most people find attractive like Monastiraki, Syntagma and Ermou Street i find boring and disgusting. I am a athenian greek and really hurted by this situation. Τhe worst of all, the greek population is gradually replaced and there is extreme criminality. Athens is 80% ugly (ancient city is the only human and really beautiful place), not safe, not healthy, and terible. Excellent as a tourist destination, terible for living permanently.
The rise of prosperity? 11% unemployment? It is close to 20 %..Greece has still the 2nd place in unemployment in europe. Money is getting spent in the middle of the month. Rends are half the income. Everything is getting privatized. Next is the water. Gentrification pushed rents and is to the benefit of those that are in the tourist industry. Greece is like cuba before the revolution. And these artists in the establishment played their role as athens fine art school is sipped with capitalist and neoliberal professors and their faux radicalism. Greece is dying and especially athens. There is no growth. There are no homes for people to stay. Not built anymore. A worker gets paid 900 at best and 500 or 450 are spent to the shithole he she it will stay. Plus edpensive bills and you get there. The center of athens is a no no for indigenous people and the gettos are getting gentrified every day After the crisis privatization and the neoliberal state of capitalism was imported more here along with fragmentation in politics (the industry of identity politics). Neo fascism and fear reign in politics now. As if the imperium imposed it all and it did. Both in the economy and in politics. Restrictions are eased after covid. Economic i mean but this is temporary because of geopolitical tensions. In sum this is a part of the imperium of capitalist europe and the western world were u will have a good vacation with people serving you in the hot sand working 24/7 and 15 hours a day for your accomodation. To get just 5000 euros a summer and get broke the next spring (those that work in tourism like tourists slaves, u can check rodos for more info). The situation here is shit. Only the weather is good and we are not as alienated as in western countries but they are working on that and importing it.
Now you know why the Catholic Church instituted tithes hundreds and hundreds of years ago, because the church did not have enough money to pay for all this ornate glamour.
Very nice walk through various areas in Athens. One gets a rather good idea for what they may want to consider to visit and do. Thanks for the heads up regarding when the best time would be to visit this wonderful country filled with amazing history and architecture. Greece is a dream for anyone in the film industry! It seems Greece suits you, as if you've lived another life here with your incredible amount of knowledge and strong sense of whereabouts; you really seem to fit right in. I used to go to Episcopalian church.. BUT i realized that it was born out of sin.. king wanted to divorce and eventually kill his wife to mary another woman. The end for me was gay and lesbian preists who literally said that there is no right or wrong, only shades of grey. I left episcopal church and went to an independent Bible church and actually studied out of the Bible! I will give you that the episcopal does try to be nice, and touchy Feely.. but God will spit out lukewarm churches.
Thats not a Cathedral. A Cathedral has the seat of a Bishop. Episcopalians do not have Bishops they have pretender laymen. They have no unbroken connection to the Apostles.
You adorn a church with symbols of what you worship. Thisnone is adorned with secular symbols in the form of politicians and people who followed different faiths. Not a Christian church.
