I have SMA sydrome found on ct scan with contrast after losing going from 130 pounds to 109 pounds in a year of constant nausea last week I have gone down from 116 pounds to 109 pounds and constant nausea and agonizing pain in lower abdomen. My condition is so bad I got another diagnosis on top of everything which is chronic fatigue syndrome and it’s not my fault because I have been averaging 2700-3000 calories a day for the last 4 years and haven’t had a problem until a year ago. I have been forced not to eat lunch since nausea peaks at this time so I’m stuck eating a 1,500 calorie breakfast and a 1,500 calorie dinner and nearly dying of dehydration even though I’m consuming 5 liters of liquid a day.
I was diagnosed with this with Long Covid. I’m on multiple antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers so I can function better. I can eat pretty normally now too. Not fully. Like, gluten and other foods will trigger reactions like fatigue and lethargy, sneezing, tongue sores, distention, and GI issues. It’s been both fascinating and terrifying at the same time. Thanks for shedding some light on this rarely mentioned medical condition. We’ve been floating alone out here for a few years now.
Here are some additional resources that might help! facebook.com/watch/?v=1022654191463973 www.gaudianiclinic.com/gaudiani-clinic-blog/2016/9/14/combating-fine
Thank you for the tip. I wish I could loose weight but that's not the case here. .I'll try this. Right now I have a cotton ball in my ear to stop the double echo or kazoo sound which first started as the normal tinnitus ship humming sound when docked 😢😰 that simply got to loud to handle.
Also after I eat I can relax and blood sugar up and normal but if I get up and walk or do anything mobile it drops super fast to super low in 70s. I have no hypoglycemia symptoms with this though and it’ll come back up on its own if I sit still. What can be wrong? Drs just say my blood work is good and healthy. I feel hopeless.
We can't provide medical advice, but do encourage you to speak with your physician about the drops. It might also be helpful to talk with an eating disorder-informed dietitian.
You aren't able to provide any medical advice but I would love to know your hot-take on anorexia and it's effect on congenital heart disease. Like HCM, DCM, etc.
This is something that I am going through right now. My well-meaning doctors will see high cholesterol and encourage me to eat things with less cholesterol. Even had a nurse who didn't look at my file but only at the lab results call me to encourage me to exercise daily... When I almost fall out daily from over-exercise lol.
While that's not a common side effect we've noticed, it is worth discussing with your physician. Some allergists are familiar with MCAS or you can search for an MCAS specialist in your area. Good luck!
Hi there! We are licensed in 47 US states and would be happy to see if we can help. Please feel free to reach out to us directly via info@gaudianiclinic.com
Beside the sympthoms you described that I also have, the sound of my voice vibrate such that it is like electric shocks in my brain, is that part of autophony or another issue?
Gastroparesis should NOT be put in an ED category! We are starving, NOT BY CHOICE! This is why we can't get help!!!!!! If we eat more we're just going to be in excruciating pain or vomit!
Gastroparesis is a common side effect of an eating disorder and we are a medical clinic primarily treating eating disorders. Gastroparesis occurs for a variety of medical reasons.
I never had eating disorder and I have gastroparesis. The doctor wasn’t able to find the cause, but I am assuming my hiatal hernia surgery was the cause.
I phi, I just found you . This Makayla Day. I was in Denver clinic and you were my dr. I am glad to hear you had build a clinic. I am for sure 👍 you will do great. I miss you 😊 best wishes for your future
I don’t truly know what you’re implying when you say eating disorders and mast cell activation syndrome. If you are mentioning AFRID then this would totally make sense if a long history of foods have caused reactions and such therefore causing a fear of eating. Mcas goes along with Connective Tissue Disease many of us have had GI symptoms our entire life which causes distrust. I have the trifecta of Ehlers Danlos Mcas Dysautonomia along as full GI dysmotality, I was also accused of having eating disorders due to my low body mass but I never had a hard time mentally with food or my body image. In fact I loved food and have consistently tried to find ways where I could eat it safely to sustain me. Unless the patient has a history of having an ED we should not state there’s a correlation between the two. It harms us when doctors assume our GI issues are directed from disordered eating.
We're so sorry to hear that it sounds like you've experienced some negative care including people making assumptions about your health based on your body size--this is not okay. As our clinic specializes in eating disorders, this is the primary population of patients we're discussing, and we are commenting on the correlation that exists between these diagnoses based on our clinical experiences. Sending you our best!
Hi, I have a problem in my ear. I always feel sensitive in high pitch sound like spoon and plate clashing, dog barks or when someone hammering nails. It only buzz when i hear the sound. it feels like it is loud for me. Both ears but right ear is a bit worst than my left. Also if i touch at the bottom of my ear down to the neck its also buzzing but only for the right ear my left ear down to neck is normal no buzzing. Can u help me what is this. Thank you so much. I really need your help.
That sounds really uncomfortable! We can't diagnose or provide medical advice to individuals who aren't our patients and encourage you to chat with your PCP to investigate this issue.
Can you give advise for extreme anemia and iron deficiency with anorexia? Is it possible that the iron ferritin value drops further and further when you start to restrict extremely?over years?
my cholesterol was 307 and ldl was 227, and i had high calcium because not only am i anorexic but i was on keto too. i thought my life was over and i’d never be able to have the foods i used to love, like cake, ice cream & cultural greek foods because i’d drop dead from a heart attack at 18 years old. the fact that this is common makes me feel a lot better.
Damn. I’ve heard so many people use the term “sick enough” but never quite understood. This was a nice insight into what that works looks like. Thank you 🙏🏻
I would love this topic too. I've always gotten headaches from MSG, but now I seem to be even more sensitive to other milder flavor enhancers too. Thanks for your great videos!
Wise words, as always, Dr. G! I've dearly missed you. And I can say that I have personally seen the amazing resilience of my own liver and these labs returning to normal during nutritional rehabilitation.
Had an idiot surgeon tell me yes, yes, you should eat only small meals. Small meals r good. Like it was a good thing I can only eat a couple of ounces at times. He totally didn't care what I was saying. Didnt think gallbladder surgery will help my gastroparesis! Told him no thanks, quit him and the GI Dr that sent me to him and got a new gi Dr and some REAL help! Be your own advocate.
