I don't sell the coin sap made, but I do sell the Magic Wallet. If you want one, there is a short Google order form in the video description you can fill out in less than a minute, and I will contact you!
Try it out! I have other videos to help teach you about tools. And on my website I have patterns you can download, print, and use to make projects easier if that's something you'd like. Leathercraft is awesome.
My grandfather used one during the forties when he was a county deputy sheriff during WWII. When he asked for someone's I.D. and they smartmouthed him they got the business end of it. People respected the law back then, not like today. If you obeyed the law and complied, you didn't have anything to worry about, if not he would beat the hell out of you. Sounds like we some of that this day and time.
Where is the contradiction? I would love to know so I can improve the pattern. The video isn't exactly meant as a tutorial for the pattern. When I recorded this, I had just started debuting patterns on my new site, but the videos were meant only as entertainment. Going forward, any video I make will indeed be a tutorial for using the patterns. This can be seen in more recent uploads. I apologize if this threw off your build, but the directions I included are very descriptive and should get you through the build just fine. If you are having trouble, reach out to me via the email on my site, and I will give you pointers! Thank you for the support.
@braddobson2060 The straps should have been the same width. In the video here, I did cut the single strap wider but ended up going with a thinner strap to match the other two.
@braddobson2060 Understandable. Again, sorry for any confusion, as this was not meant as a direct tutorial of the pattern and was only for entertainment. Again, going forward, the videos will match with the pattern directions, and people will be able to follow along.
Thanks again to Reddit user Sammahal for the inspiration! What do you think about it, pretty neat, huh? If you want to check out Sammahal's stuff, their Instagram link is in the description above.
You're right, there's reasons why processed dyes are the standard these days. But there are "mordants" that I just learned about which can be added to natural dyes to increase water resistance and sustained color. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Thank you! I have been meaning to look into this. A friend gave me a copy of The Plictho of Gioanventura Rosetti, first edition 1548, English Translation M.I.T. Press, Cambridge Massachusetts, 1969. Section 4 is "The Art of Dressing Leather" (tanning and dyeing). I just haven't had time to go over it. But from the foreword, for leather it contains 9 recipes for blacks and greys, 8 for reds, 9 for blues, 5 for greens, 1 for yellow, 1 for "dark wine" (morello) and 2 for gilding.
Oh, wow! Sounds like I have to check that book out. I tried a very simple method for this, I didn't use a "mordant" which I hear is supposed to keep the pigment better affixed to the material. It's worth trying other techniques. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
@@CastilloHeritageCrafts Just a thought.. The green husk / skin of walnuts would be worth investigating as a dark brown dye. It deeply stains skin when pickling them 🤔
Huh, I've never handled them enough to know. You're right, basically anything that stains the fingers is what I'm looking to try! Next I want to look into spices, like turmeric. Thanks for the suggestion.
Pattern download is in the description. Did you like this project? It was a fun and interesting experiment that's worth trying at least once. If the formula is right, it could be a safe and cost-effective way to save some money on expensive leather dye. Let me know what you think, and thanks for watching!
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you like it. My site is still new, but once I get review capabilities up, I would love to see how it turns out. If you have any trouble making it, let me know. I tried my best to make it clear how to attach the bands.
@@KingAstroJack I did have it for sale, but I became concerned about the potential legal ramifications of selling something that's illegal in many parts of the world. If I can find a way to guarantee it only went to people in the places it was legal, I will put it back up for sale. Thanks for the interest, I appreciate it.
The pattern hasn't been made yet! I freehanded this, but I definitely plan on putting out a pattern for it soon. I will try to remember to message you here when I do 👍
I didn't understand either until I made it. I put the pattern up on my site if you want a quick template for it. But if you do it yourself, I recommend making a prototype out of paper first. Mess around with it, and you should figure it out. Thanks for watching.
I've got one from the original designer Mean Gene Leather and this is a good design for a self defense tool that you can take anywhere......getting hit with a lot off coins hurts and it can cause serious damage. Also, don't wear it with the coin pouch out, wear it with the handle on the outside off your belt. This way if you do ever have to use it to protect yourself your already holding the handle when you deploy it.
DOWNLOAD THE PATTERN at CastilloHeritageCrafts.com! Link in the description. Have you seen a magic wallet before? It's a fun and nostalgic wallet design that many of us remember from childhood, you should try it out for yourself. Did you like the video? Let me know in the comments.
Some strange thing. I don't know why people wrote they like it. Neither properly working as a purse no as a weapon. The zipper is a weak point. Seams inconvenient to use the small zipper and opening in this exact direction. I'd make it open in opposite direction. As a weapon it'll break with 1st hit. Like having a single charged selfmade pistol.
You're right about the zipper, I'd definitely switch the opening direction if I ever made it again. It works quite well as a coin purse. The whole thing is really quite resilient. But thank you for the watch and the comment anyway!
What do you think? This was a satisfying project to put together and I had fun designing the pattern. Check the description if you want to download it! Thanks for watching, everyone.
Saps, a type of bludgeon, are prohibited under federal law and the laws of every State with which I'm familiar. These devices are categorized as "dangerous instruments". Such weapons are not afforded protection under the Second Amendment because no military force throughout history has customarily used them, thus saps do not qualify as "Arms".
Sorry, I'm not selling it. But if you or someone you know does leathercraft, I'm selling the pattern to make it yourself! It's I'm the description.Sorry, I'm not selling it. I enjoyed making this classic, vegetable-tanned leather belt! It fits perfectly and I can't wait to see the patina start to wear in. Did you like it, too? Is there anything you would do differently? Let me know how you feel about this belt. Also, check out some of my previous projects. Thank you so much for watching!
this is considered a slap jack/blackjack so check your local laws as they are illegal to carry/use in many areas, i know they are here in colorado sadly as i already considered it for when i can't carry a firearm. i ended up going with a good strong self defense cane for those situations being a medical device, and being just a strong cane they cannot deny it, of course the hidden blade ones would be a problem though.
Yes, saps and blackjacks are a touchy subject. There are strict laws in place in basically all US states regarding them. In some states, they're illegal to own and carry, and in some, they're legal to own at home but not to carry out in public. I also think some concealed carry licenses cover them. But I'm not 100% sure, so it's always best to check local laws. The cane seems like a nice replacement though, better range of attack, too. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I appreciate you watching the video. You should definitely give it a shot, but fair warning, use big stitches because it was a LOT to stitch by hand.
