I bought a couple of ounces of silver clay. I did not use it right away and left it unopened. Later i got it out and it had dried up totally. I tried adding water but it did no good. What should i have done?
Art Clay Silver can be rehydrated with the following steps: 1. break the clay into small bits 2. wrapped with plastic wrap → add some water →knead 20~ times 3. Leave for a days until get soft
Hey! That was such an informative video - thank you! Question - can art clay silver be hallmarked? If so, is it 925 or 999? Sorry if it's a stupid question and thank you in advance!
No, it’s just my design. If I choose more expensive stones like ruby or diamonds, I would make many moe prongs. This pink shell is round, flat and not heavy, so 4 prongs design is enough to hold.
Hi, if I wanna make a ring that is size 6 (USA) how many sizes bigger should I make the clay initially? Are sizes 8 or 9 just the right size when it shrinks for a size 6 ring when you fire it?
Hi, thank you for watching! Art Clay Silver shrinks about 10% after fired. To make US size 6 (Inner diameter 16.4cm), you need to make US size 8 at first. After fired you can file and adjust size with tools.
it looked like you made the mark for the prongs right on the edge of the shell, doesn't the clay shrink and then the prongs would not be in the correct place ??
You did nothing wrong :-) Pure silver does not oxidized with water, but gradually oxidized in the air. Otherwise, your “water” may contain sulfur, as hot spring water sulfurize silver. Get any silver agent and polish the ring. You can restore the shine of pure silver. Please Check this video if you want to know how to polish with silver agent(8:15). ↓ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lul6fOioYFk.htmlsi=33Bc0REa2Q_ZnfX8
This is the first time I tried Silver Clay 925. With normal silver 925 in the ocean my jewelry never got oxidized. That’s why I was surprised with silver clay 925, the jewelry got oxidized 😢 thank you for your respond 🙏🏼
Thank you for watching! This klin is so-called electric klin. It is used for making glass jewelry, cloisonne, art clay silver jewelry, and so on. Mine is made in japan (SHIROTA, Super Petit), but similar products are available in America, too. It costs about $750. ▶︎amzn.to/3s7HzRc You can also enjoy Art Clay Silver with gas stove at home. If you are interested, please check my video list :-)) I show you how to make without electric klin.
Super beautiful🤩 can I ask how many sizes did you go up? You have a size 13 right? Did you make the ring size 15? I’m still a little scared to make rings, I’m afraid that they don’t fit🙈
Thank you for watching! Yes, I made size 15 with my clients. Make 2 size up(17) and it will be size 15 after fired. If it does not fit, do not worry! You can fix with mallet and wooden core rod. You can also scrape with stick file.
Jessica, thank you for watching. I am sorry that your work was not succeed. Solution is as follows: ・Kneading clay 5~10 times first : If kneading is not enough, components may not be uniformed or contain small air, and may be fragile when baked. ・Do not move until cool down completely :If move during firing, ring is still soft and easy to break. ・Check the ring size shrinking 10%:torch firing is more difficult to bake sufficiently than using electric furnace. Before firing, draw and take a size of the ring on the paper. After firing, put the ring on the paper and check whether shrinked about 10%. If not, firing is not enough. Art Clay Silver can be fixed with Paste Type even if broken. Next time I would like to show how to fix.
Thank you for watching! When I made this ring, I use 5g Art Clay Silver. On Amazon there is only big package, but you can keep leftover clay with Saran wrap and wet tissue. Next time I will explain how to keep leftover clay. ;-)
Your clay is way too thick. Five minutes isn't enough. Use the proper tools a d save yourself some money on clay. The base of the bezel is at least 3 times thicker than it needs to be. If using sheet silver, it would never be that thick. Your ring was too thick. How much are you charging , as you use so much clay? They would cost more than market rings of the same style.
Thank you for your comment! The common ring’s thickness is 1.8~2.3mm. So, as you say, this ring is thicker than the usual(about 2~3mm). However, I think there is no rule like “ rings are allowed only Xmm” , and this ring is not too much heavy and thick(I usually enjoy putting this ring!). I use every proper tools following Official Art Clay Silver Club in Japan. Also, this channel’s theme is not “Making original jewelry as the cheapest way”. Art Clay Silver is not very cheap, but not too expensive(about 15$ per 5g). This material gives us fun to make original jewelries in easy and fastest way. Thank you for understanding.❤️
Gillian, thank you four your comments. It is exactly as you said. The bezel shrinks when it is fired, so we need to make the bezel 1~2mm larger than the opal. If you use man-made opals (and if it is able to resist fire), you can burn the bezel with stone( and it may be more easy and fit!). This time I wanted to use natural opal :-) so I challenged the new way.
Beautiful work! Could you tell me what the metal piece is called that you wrapped around the piece of sea glass? I’ve never seen them before but would love to order some! Thanks so much ❤
Thank you for your comments :-) I apologize to be late. What I used for wrapping the sea glass is called “royal silver race”, which is made of pure silver. I searched them on Amazon, but It may not available :-< This is Japanese Website which sells them. item.rakuten.co.jp/artclay/c/0000000372/ You can also set a stone with pure silver wire. I will introduce how to do it soon.
@@artclaysilverkosugi Tiny typo - it's called Royal Silver _Lace!_ It's called something different here in the UK, I'm not sure what it's called elsewhere. Here, it is known as 'Gallery Strip'.
Hi there. I can only speak for here in the UK, where it's known as 'Gallery Strip', but I've also heard it called 'Decorative Bezel Wire'. The one in the video looks close to Cookson Gold's Sterling Silver Inverted Heart Small Gallery Strip 4.0mm. 🤍
@@221b-Maker-Street Thank you so so much!! I live on the coast of Maine & one of my absolute favorite pastimes is collecting sea glass (I just went today) 😊 & have been wanting to learn how to create this exact type of jewelry using some of my treasured finds. So I appreciate all your help & advice beyond measure!! I’m going to take a look online & see what I can find! Thanks again!! 🌊♥️
Impressive but you were not mentioning most of the items u used. For eg whats the machine u used in heating up the clay called? Whats the name of the oven like that turned it to silver. The paper u used to creatw the design for the ring what is it called? Where can we get them.?
The name of the _kiln_ is clearly visible several times in the video. He's just using grease-proof paper. Google is your friend. Next time, try saying please and you might get an answer. Courtesy costs nothing...
Thank you for watching! I apologize my explanation is not enough in the movies. About the tools materials, please check the information space of this video, or I am explaining the latest video. I am very pleased that you watched this video and get interested in Art Clay Silver. Thank you.
Linda, thank you for watching! :-) Oh God :-< Fortunately, I have never experienced such cases. Could you explain the ruined state in detail ? There might be some reason… 1: product quality (was it the product from glue-specialized manufacturer and for stones or glasses?) 2 : Glue mixing might be insufficient 3: Not the problem of glue, but the properties of stones(ex: some kinds of opal is water soluble and sensitive to heat)
What I use is made in Japan. I searched in Amazon.com but not found… ( in Amazon.co.jp : www.amazon.co.jp/セメダイン-Cemedine-CA-121-エクセルエポ-15g/dp/B00476N2F8 ) My recommend in Amazon.com is this one(This is for glass or jewelry. I also checked the review! : amzn.to/3XQnqtU)
