Wow! Thank you very much for sharing this information. My close friend is going to Ontario on a Personal Caregiver Home Support job offer at $19 per hour. What advice will you give him to survive financially for his first year over there?
Being a PSW is easy when you know you carry the proper tools in your mind tools like religion, knowing that there’s life after death Makes your understanding of death becomes a natural part of life and takes your emotional stress out of the equation. So if you’re not getting joy out of your PSW work, everything becomes hard another tool that you need to carry an inside smile if your spirit is a lifted and everyone you contact with will have the same reaction you can lift their spirits. I don’t wanna carry on too long so I’ll leave it there, but bring your tools to work and it’ll never become a job, it will just be the love you have to give to others
Hi Geraldine, Just watched some of your videos for the first time today (and I’m loving them) as I’m considering adding PSW training to expand my work options. I’m English speaking Irish heritage Canadian, not familiar enough with the language (Tagalog?) but I would like to say that providing private rec companionship for people with dementia, I am sometimes supporting a client in an LTC or AL facility. And I am constantly amazed at the hardwork, and dedication of the PSWs I’m surrounded by. The physical demands of the job are incredible, and the emotional demands - especially with those with dementia - are very demanding too. I feel very humbled. It is hard enough to experience or observe the verbal aggression / threatening physical gestures on the part of patients with dementia towards myself or staff. It’s sickening to hear of any racism on top of that. I love that when !#@*’s say ‘go back to your own country’ you get to smile and say ‘This is my country. I am Canadian!’ ❤😂❤

Im also a health care assistant in BC, pag may verbal, physical abuse from the clients or relatives, we have the right to refuse service and also if you dont feel safe to go in there house due to hazards like dogs, clutters etc , i work in fraser health authority its a government department, and most of the time our clients and their relatives are very nice because they are receiving services for free from the government, if we complained against them, services will be terminated
Hey pls pls reply back.. I’m currently a physiotherapist and I’m considering taking on a role as a PSW. I wanted to ask for your advice on something. Do you think that combining my physiotherapy skills with a PSW position would allow me to earn more than the typical PSW rate, or would I end up earning the same as other PSWs? I’m trying to understand if my background in physiotherapy would be an advantage in this field, particularly in terms of terms of pay.,
Physiotherapist itself is more higher pay than PSW in Canada. You can just apply as skilled worker. Then if you combined it for you to have knowledge as PSW not also bad because you can be all around .
@@Geraldinebenzon47 Physiotherapist have to clear PCE liscnce exam .. I cannot clear that so I want to do PSW course .. All I am asking is will my pay increase as PSW if I am a physio .. ?
Psw all this yes its also hard when you try to speak up for the resident you take care of and no one listens until its too late sometimes you have to shut your lip and not say anything and also becareful in work place environment not everyone is nice i want to branch to lpn but afraid of the old saying thrown into the wolves because anywhere you go thats just what happens the people who you work with sometimes watch you fail and not stop to say maybe do it a different way or this is a better way of doing xyz the burn out is real and residents abuse is no joke its not talked about a lot ive been punched a women i worked with was pregnant and got beaten by a resident with dementia she lost the baby unfortunately ive been scratched had to remove knives from a resident had to hide from a resident who was confused and wanting to hurt people on the floor been told to f off some residents are sweet angles when family is there but become bitter when family is not there and take it out on you holidays are sad for them missing family asking where they are if they will take them out of the hospital or ltc and why they are put there it breaks your heart but its worth it you do need to have compassion and heart for the job palliative is hard but you learn to just numb yourself after a few passes and not to get to attached or close but again it is hard because you give care for then during covid they had no one but us you definitely have to ask yourself is this truly a job you want to see yourself in
