Hey! I'm Clint and I have a passion for adventure!
First, I'm obsessed with Hiking and Backpacking... so you will get a lot of that. I'm from Texas but I travel all over the US to hike...including Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, and more.
Second, I love travel and I have a family who does as well. My wife earns many trips through her work...16 incentive trips so far! We also travel a lot with our family. You'll see trips from all over including Cruises, Mexico, Caribbean, Hawaii, and coming soon..Tahiti and Bora Bora!
Third, I work with organizations that drill water wells in Ethiopia. So you will see what it's like to go on these trips as well as whatever adventure we have in layovers in along the way. You'll see Ethiopia, Dubai & United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and other places in Africa and Europe.
Lastly, I'm a Christian. A follower of Jesus Christ. but just like Paul, I consider myself a chief of sinners. I'm imperfect, you'll see it. But God is on my side. Proverbs 3:6
This Beach is such a treat. Great beaches like this are hard to find on the Big Island so this one really stands out! This hike ended up being around 2.5 miles and it does get very hot. There are no facilities at Makalawena beach so plan accordingly... The gate will be locked at 7:00pm so dont get stranded out there. Enjoy!
Sure can, we were there for two hours. I’m thinking that they said we could be out there until 4pm…so if you get there early it’s up to you. 2 hours was pretty sufficient…although I wouldn’t have minded 3. They were really good to work with.
Thanks for the video, that brought the route to my attention. It was fun stopping at the lodge for lunch, going up and back down. Less food I had to carry. 🤣What a beautiful trail!!!
Be extremely Careful on this first part of the trail...it's super slippery. This hike is only 0.9 miles...super short but it is steep. There are NO Restrooms and they will issue a fine if you relieve yourself here. The Trail up to the other side of the trail is now unfortunately CLOSED. Enjoy!
We have been going to Big Bend since 2020 and it is absolutely our favorite place on earth! We aren't capable of a hike like this so this is incredible to get to experience it through your video!! We do hope to attempt the Window Trail on our next visit!
Brings back some great memories. In 2014, I did a self-supported loop from McKittrick Canyon (staying in McKittrick Ridge #1) to Pine Top and then back to the Visitor Center where I left my bike and then rode it back to McKittrick to my car. Absolutely punishing climb up that first day carrying 10L of water for the whole jaunt. And, as others have noted here, WINDY! But. oh those views are amazing. I'm hoping to go back again next fall. I can't say enough of how great the NPS staff were.. I couldn't have done it without their help.
I just completed this hike with my husband this morning. Hardest trail I have ever done! It was raining on and off and steep and very muddy. I was starting to blister on my hands from the ropes and very freaked out. But we did it and the views were insane at the very top of Hihimanu.
Great video man. I would love to come see Hawaii after watching your series of videos. What a beautiful and interesting place. There was no one there either. Just quiet and wide open. Love it!
Note* Kilauea Iki & Crater Rim Trail is rated as a Moderate 3.2 mile loop with 741 feet of elevation gain. This loop is best done in a Clockwise direction. Start early, avoid the heat, and the trailheads will be full by 8:30 am. Pay attention which trailhead you park at and bring some type of map...it can be confusing when you climb back up from the bottom of the crater. Many trails join in so you must pay attention. Pro Tip- Park close to the Lava Tube...then you wont have to fight for parking. You can do the loop and the lava tube from one parking spot. Hope this was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I was looking up this hike before going and this video was recommended to me! We stopped and couldn’t make it either due to difficulty and running out of light. Ran into a few people on the hike in the same situation. I wonder the success rate and how many people get to the top.
Yeah I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I was so frustrated to have to quit on this climb. When it gets slippery like that I’m out. I’d like to give it another go one day.
Considering going for the first time with my best friend! It is a loop right? The 26 miles gets you back to where you start? Would this trail be able to be comfortably completed in 2 days and one night? Would it feel too rushed, or would you be able to relax as well. And overall, how safe was it?
It is possible to do in two days but I’m not sure you’d enjoy it, it would be very rushed with big mileage days. I’d recommend giving it two nights and us it is a loop. I’d definitely bring a map and maybe have something on your phone you guide you. There are other trails that lead off of the loop that can make it somewhat confusing.
Amazing shots! Oh LMT here I come! I am heading to BB tomorrow for the second time yet there is so much beauty left for me to cover that I am already planning my third visit watching your videos! Never knew South Rim Trail had views for days!
@@TheNotLostNomad It was amazing as we lucked out with overcast conditions and a cloud cover for the LMT trail! Camped at chisos basin and did a lot of exploration!. Emory peak & South Rim are on the menu for the next BB trip! Maybe December/Juanary... what do you think?
Climbed it in the early 90s with wife and 2 oldest kids. I had to carry the 2 kids the whole time tho. You can literally run down the other side but it's a lot of loose dirt and rocks and you can have a nasty fall. I can't do 10% of either of those 2 things now. 😞
Your Grinnell Glacier day is going to be a long one! It's over 2 1/2 hours from Whitefish to Many Glacier. Adding Angel Wing makes it a pretty big hike. Love Mount Oberlin. It's an easy mountain climb with big views. Vaqueros in Columbia Falls was good when i ate there last month. Have a great trip!
Thanks! That’s good to know! We have a boat tour to cut out some of the mileage…so hopefully it’s doable. Yeah that’s going to be a long drive back. I’m sure it’ll be worth it though. We are staying in Columbia falls so we will definitely hit up Vaqueros.
Thank you for making these videos , I enjoy them a lot I'm a fellow Texan and there's not many good quality videos. Texas has many underrated hiking trails but not much exposure, unfortunately our main problem is the lack of water which makes the logistics more difficult to go on multiple days backpacking and Backcountry camping.Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you very much for the compliment. I’m so glad you are enjoying them. And I agree 100%. Texas has some amazing terrain…and some of the most challenging when you add the lack of water resources. Thanks for watching!
I drove all of the way from Moab to the Canyonlands visitor center at the top in Subaru Outback after the rains in 8/2024. Like he says, do not attempt Potash road in a car.
I can’t remember exactly…I think I may have started around 11:00am maybe. But I started very early as not to be rushed. I took my time filming and even killed a lot of time at the backcountry sites. In my opinion this is the best way to do Guadalupe peak….it was exhilarating hiking down in the dark with all of the city lights twinkling in the distance. Just don’t slip like I did, haha!
@TheNotLostNomad I appreciate your response! This video was great. I've only hiked GP once last year, to be exact. But I did it so unprepared and during the summer. I had a mile left to reach the top, but I had unfortunately ran out of water, so I had no choice but to turn back. Even though the views were amazing, the heat was no joke. I've been thinking of hiking it again but from an approach like this! This seems better honestly, and the view up top when the sun is going down is just breathtaking. I will likely do it this way sometime in the spring when it's not so cold/hot. I remember the trail being very distinctive. But was it hard for you going down the mountain in the dark? In the video, it just looks pitch black everywhere which is why I ask.
If I remember correctly…I think I had 6 liters with me. I went through 3 on the way up…1 liter was used for electrolytes, coffee, and cooking. Then I drank the remaining 2L on the hike down.
Yes it really was! And it’s crazy to think that we almost didn’t do it. It wasn’t until we watched them from the drone that we decided to book it for the next night.
Awesome video as always, but you've taken it to the next level with drone and underwater videography! Excellent! If you are a reader and have any interest in Cpt. Cook and Hawaii, might I suggest the book Blue Latitudes: Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before by Tony Horwitz. Tony is one of those guys who could write about garbage pickup in your neighborhood and make it interesting. I first found out about Tony Horwitz from his book Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War which is outstanding. Yes, it is about the US Civil War and those who haven't stopped fighting it, so to speak. Great book!
Hey thanks man! I’m trying to learn a few new things. It’s been fun to incorporate the drone in these trips. It’s challenging to be smooth in the shots. And it’s even tougher knowing where you can legally fly the drones. I’m slowly figuring it out though. Glad you enjoyed it!
