I have had so many projects come up lately and I too can't wait until i can start working on it as well. Soon! My biggest obstacle right now is that I need to do some welding on the frame rails and it is so dry right now that I do not feel comfortable welding in heat and dry grass. we are about a month away from a first rain and it will be on then! Thanks for watching.

Yes! Isn't that how most projects are though! I tell people that because I don't have a significant other - with a Honie Do List, that I have a list of projects that when i get one item cleared from it, it seems like 10 more appear in its place! Check out my other videos on my channel. subscribe! Take Care.

Oh boy the 260. I had a couple issues with the older ford tractor I had gotten from grandpa. Wound up being dirt magnito and flywheel coupled with a loose wire on said magnito. Was able to get spark back…then the air-fuel ratio adjustment needle whatever broke and that was that. Never could actually get it running properly it’s a shame but I hope ur able to get that electron delivery issue sorted.

I like Benchmark products. They are my go to for abrasives. Those type 1 cutting wheels wear like iron. I'm betting B.S.C. stands for Bethlehem Steel Corporation.

What model is yours? I have a D and my transmission is different in that when you remove the shifter off the top the forks come with it unlike you tranny set up.
@rbtractorman
@rbtractorman 5 месяцев назад
Mine is an Early 1946 Model D. It has a GMC Transmission in it. I believe at some point they started manufacturing their own and that may be why yours is different?

Antique Power Magazine published an article years back about two guys restoring a Gibson model A. They opted to use all new 5/8" stainless nuts and bolts. It turned out beautiful.

Hey Matt, Well wouldn't you know it... I vaguely remember that article, and even more so remembered that when we were in the process of cleaning out my Grandparents place, there was some tractor paperwork that the family was throwing away... So I dug it out of storage and wouldn't you know that I have copies of the Gas Engine Magazine Article by Dave Baas with his 1947 Model D Gibson. As well as another article which is a Sales Brochure for the Gibson D and Implements. I will be sharing these in a future video.

When my son overhauled his Gibson, he found a NOS magneto on Amazon.... paid a lot for it, but motor fired right ip.
@rbtractorman
@rbtractorman 6 месяцев назад
Yeah there available, just takes $$ I figured this unit just needed a set of points as the frame and cap looked good. it defiantly did the trick. I have another AEH engine that is tough to start and I suspect that it also needs a set of points. Thanks for sharing!

My son resurrected a 46 Gibson that had been yard art for many years. Overhauled the motor, new ties, fre3d up the differential and tranny . Sold it recently
@rbtractorman
@rbtractorman 6 месяцев назад
This one was on the verge of becoming yard art or scrap metal. I put word out that I was looking for an AEH engine, and that is what would determine plans for this machine - If I found an engine I would restore the machine - if not, I would donate for yard art.

Nice! But why did the fuel leak into the oil?
@rbtractorman
@rbtractorman 6 месяцев назад
"Hydrolocking" - When fuel is left on - on a hot day the fuel will expand and seep through the carburetor creating a syphon.

I hate Gibson tractors. They are very uncomfortable to operate. I have one I installed a 16hp kohler engine and thought I would like it but it really does suck. I think I’m going to crush it and scrap it. That’s how much I hate it.
@rbtractorman
@rbtractorman 6 месяцев назад
I will agree that Gibson Tractors are not the most comfortable machines to operate. But we have to consider when the machines were built and the reason for them. These were very economical priced machines for the small farmer - gardener who didn't need a big tractor like a ford 8N. The goal for this unit is to restore to a point where it can be shown at events such as my local Tractor Supply Farmers Market, and allow the public to engaged with it, rather it be someone who wants to have the experience of taking it for a ride, or set their youngster on it to take a picture. I don't have plans of ever using it around the house or in the garden, That work belongs to my work horse - Kubota Tractor. Some tractors and equipment from our past, most defiantly should be scrapped, but if your unit is still functional and you don't have use of it, You might consider giving it to some Kiddo out there that needs something to tinker with and enjoy. You might experience a long term enjoyment over watching that person, rather then the short term thrill of the crushing. Thanks for your Comment.

Nice work so far Robert. I rebuilt that exact GM transmission 4 years ago on my Gibson model A. The one suggestion I can offer is clean and inspect the transmission case closely. They are notorious for water running down the shift tower and freezing in the case splitting it. I had a lot of brazing work to do on mine because of that.

Hi Robert, Having worked my entire life in the gas industry I can assure you all that refilling gas containers by decanting poses serious risks to untrained operators. Liquid LPG will expand around 270 times into LP gas which is heavier than air and will collect on the floor and low areas. Any small liquid leak releases 270 times more gas volume resulting in large amounts of energy that if ignited may result in a powerful explosion. Liquid LPG has a boiling point of -43C and any contact with the skin will result in a freeze burn as the liquid LP vaporizes into LP gas. Cylinders and containers must be checked to ensure they are in good condition, designed to be refilled and where applicable are within the test period. Minimum safety requirements require the operator to wear gloves and a face mask and most importantly decanting should only be performed away from any potential sources of ignition and outside in an open air where any potential leak can safely disperse. People will fill their own cylinders, so please let's see a video that shows decanting done properly with the hazard and risks fully explained.

Your rear end is original. In the early years, Gibson used GM or Chrysler 3 speed transmissions and cut down Plymouth rear ends; all from junk yards. That dates your Gibson closer to 1946. Later Gibsons used an in house built rear end with Seattle Wa, and Longmont Colorado cast into the top of the axle housings, and a Borg Warner 3 speed transmission.

New sub here. I'm an old Gibson guy from waaaay back. Looking forward to watching the entire playlist on the project. I stopped buying the WD-40 aerosol cans for the same reason. I use a 1 gallon bulk can and a refillable spray bottle now. For penetrants, I use Liquid Wrench, or Freeall. Both work well. I like Aero Kroil but it's way too expensive.
