This was the year before he died, wasn't it? A remarkable man, one that makes me feel proud to be British. In this era of forgone innocence, I find it truly inspiring how much culture and laughter this 38p puppet from Blackpool has brought to our entire nation. May Sooty's fame never cease to bring joy to others =]
This has nothing to do with anything that you are talking about. The Sooty and Sweep show (as a ridiculous piece rubbish) is a large franchise and it is all about making extortionate money by exploiting children's naivety and stupid adults that should know better.
It's a show that has brought a lot of joy to a lot of children. Why are you being so harsh? Harry clearly had a lot of passion for the show and enjoyed entertaining children. Why is that a bad thing?
Seeing that Sooty only cost 38 pence when Harry bought him in Blackpool, Lancashire long ago and I think the puppet will be at least a good few hundred thousands of pounds possibly hitting the million mark now.
I always remember getting Harry's name confused with his Harry "Haitch" Corbett namesake from Steptoe, (and indeed both of them got recognised in the 1976 New Year's Honours List because of the confusion), and so I thought I had a false memory when Sooty's Harry appeared on TIYL in 1988, as I thought that he had passed on by then - I was thinking of the other Harry Corbett who died in 1982.
Do you have Unusual Pets and Charity Begins At Home? If you can help send me an email via my site at www.thesootyshow.org where you will see an 'email me' button on the right side across from 'News and Updates'
Yeah the series that aired between January-March 1987 would have been filmed in 1986. The series filmed in 1987 and then aired from January 1988 would have been Brian Sandford's first series.
+Rhinogradentian Did you have any other episodes beside this one? I'm still missing 2 episodes from the series this one came from, which are Unusual Pets and Charity Begins at Home. If anyone has those I'd be happy to trade or pay for them.
thesootyshoworg I don't have either of those, I'm sorry. I had the rabbit hunting one, this one, the one saving for a holiday with the gorilla, the soccer one, and "Sweep Can't Sleep". As to if I still have the tapes for those, that is uncertain, and I don't know how much they degraded over watching them hundreds of times as a child.
