1:35 Note the way in which he casually says "I'll just make this clip twice as long"... he reaches up, hits a button, and twiddles a knob WITHOUT EXPLAINING which button and why, what knob and why, and how this works. This type of presumption will KILL THE EFFECTIVENESS of a tutorial or lesson. If you're a beginner, he just completely blew your mind and stranded you, thinking "wait?!? What??? Make the clip twice is long? That sounds useful, which knob was it? How did he do that? WAIT, WHAT???" and so on. See... this is NOT what I want to see if I'm thinking of spending $299.00 on a tutorial. No, this does not bode well at all.

Hello and thanks for your feedback. Price is arguably objective (as we can find products and prices to compare) and value is subjective. It's a super interesting topic so below are some thoughts and reflections. It's important to recognise that "the price" is also influenced by economic factors and I wish that there was an easier way to adjust for the varied buying power across the globe, and I'm hoping to offer this some day. Some objective facts: The course is the biggest there is (by a long, long way) The course has more features than any other (built-in support, a community, creative challenges) The course is (by a long, long way) the most affordable course per hour of content. The course has the highest production values of any course on Push (or any physical hardware, potentially!) Now, because of the above, the total price is indeed higher than many others, and also puts it into a category of being more expensive as a dollar value. The subjective decision: The subjective choice is whether the course is of value to you. If the time it will save you is of value (or not). If the creative focus it offers is of value. There are two questions here I suppose: 1) for you: is an alternative, cheaper course better value to you personally? 2) for me: would I be able to make more income if it would be priced lower? I can't answer question 1. I made the course I would have liked to have had when I started with Push, but that's all I can say on the matter. Question 2: let's say a lower price leads to 4-5 times as many students. That means 4-5 times as much support, management, lifetime hosting costs, etc. As of today I work alone and I'm not able to easily test out this theory at scale. I am always reflecting on how I could better manage all this, and that's an ongoing challenge. As I said, it's a super interesting, complex (and also at times emotional) topic. I try to find the right balance but I'm grateful for feedback on it too. I don't want to sound defensive either, but instead take your statement as a constructive challenge. Being asked good questions in life is a privilege.

For the price of the Push 3 Standalone, I can understand the price of the course. But I bought a Push 3 Control Version for $800, in that case I can not justify the price. For $100-$150 I would buy the course for sure. Hope you will consider a price-drop.
@Allogettingmoney
@Allogettingmoney 5 месяцев назад
@@PololiNuskil Thats exactly my point, after some pays over 2000 bucks for the push 3 another 300 dollars just to learn it is pretty steep. ppl will scrap the internet clean trying to learn for free before shelling out another 300 bucks. 100 to 150 is a fair price and would surely get more ppl in the shopping cart.
@wrkshp
@wrkshp 5 месяцев назад
@@PololiNuskil thanks for the feedback. While I did mention the price of Push as being relevant, actually it really isn't. The value of the course is in the transformation that it offers, and whether that's valuable to you or anyone else (or not). The value comes in the form of many things, but a big part is 10 years of knowledge, of trying things, of finding workaround, workflows, frustrations and joys. The Push Bible saves an insane amount of time saved. Of course time isn't worth the same world-wide or to each individual. There is a sale once or twice a year however. Do join the mailing list if you'd like to be made aware of that. Cheers 🙏

I agree. I’ve no doubt it’s an excellent course and he’s put a lot of work into it but I can’t justify the sale price, let alone the full price. I’m sure he’ll sell lots of these courses, but not as many as if the price were dropped.

Ableton live 12 seems to have strong upgrades in the sequencing department. Also has an euclidean mode. Can you operate these new features from the push 3 you think?

I’m awaiting delivery of my Push 3. Any thoughts about third-party MPE instruments that can work with it? For example, - ones recommended on the Linnstrument page - ones made by the company that makes the Osmose - ones in Logic - ones made for Roli - integration with the GeoShred ecosystem

Is your problem solved by Ableton with Push 3 regarding melodic/drum recording in arrangement and session?
@wrkshp
@wrkshp Год назад
Do you mean creating clips in Session view and simultaneously recording everything in Arrangement view? Also no. It's one of the first things I tried - and what's crazy is that it worked the first time - and then refused to work after that. It's really as if it sits in a weird purgatory between bug and unrealised feature. You have to hope that it will be looked at by Ableton

Cool video! Does it work wih external MPE capable synth?
@wrkshp
@wrkshp Год назад
Thank you! Absolutely. This can be hooked up via a few options; 1) USB MIDI cables hooked up to Push's USB A socket 2) 3.5mm to 3.5mm MIDI converter cables hooked up to the 3.5mm ports on Push 3. It seems there are two standards for 3.5mm MIDI, so something worth looking into (again something I'll do so myself but haven't had the time) 3) CV: Using the pedal inputs as CV outputs (configurable in Push) even lets us "bend" the pitch of notes we are playing on instruments which aren't in principle "fully MPE". So, it's not strictly MPE, but it is an interesting avenue. Again, I stress I've not tested this but I'm told it works. I plan to test this in an upcoming video. 4) Modular users: If you're using modular it's possible to hook up the USB MIDI out on Push 3 to something like an Expert Sleepers module (again something I haven't tested but Ableton told me it works). More info on that here; www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/fh2.html - let me stress that there might be other options here and I've not used this one or any others, as yet. 5) ADAT: There are ADAT expanders which also offer CV via ADAT, meaning that (again, in theory and I have not tested this) we could use the ADAT output on Push and control modular or CV gear via the ADAT output, giving us a "kind of" access to MPE functionality. I think the simplest is to start with 1) - and can be achieved with simple, cheap USB to MIDI cables.

very nice, but wow many, many glitches!
@AndriSoren
@AndriSoren Год назад
These kind of glitches are now very rare. There is still the odd bug or two but I’ve watched them fix and fine tune the software/hardware at a crazy rate. I think it’s also partly due to the really high level of sensitivity of the pads and the apparently rather custom nature of the tech. At first I was concerned but now I’m not worried at all having seen the pace of refinement. I should add I was also somewhat underwhelmed and even intimidated by MPE. In a short time I’ve started to love it rather deeply. For anyone into expression / texture / effect / spatial modulation (ie me!) it’s really exciting.
@Mikas_Emil
@Mikas_Emil Год назад
@@AndriSoren It really IS exciting. I have looked very much into the Osmose which also sounds and looks so expressive and interesting. Its a tough choice. I really hoped the Push 3 would be a bit cheaper than what they are selling it for. Do you know if there will come any sort of Arrangement view on the Push? Thanks for doing great videos, Andri!
@AndriSoren
@AndriSoren Год назад
@@Mikas_Emil thank you so much! So it’s a really interesting topic. I ordered an osmose in the pre order launch for a huge discount. Was so excited and carried away by the beauty of the idea and a handful of the presets / demos I heard. Once I got it however I quickly met the issues inherent to it which are that ideally we should have some proficiency on piano keys, and my skills in that sense are very rusty - I need to relearn playing just the basic piano keys, it’s been that long. The second is the actual application of using piano keys to add MPE is, I find, difficult. I feel like I can more easily add nuance to push 3’s pads, on a higher number of notes/fingers. That said, I am more proficient and comfortable with Push like pads than with piano keys. That’s just obviously an issue for me but might be the case for others. I suppose next to consider is workflow and which platforms we want to commit time to and invest in. For ten years since Push came out I’ve never bought a single piece of gear (except my uad sound card that I love). This was because I appreciate the focus and “limitations” of using push and Live. It was therefore a surprise when I found myself in possession of an osmose. Now that I have push 3 I just don’t see myself investing in the osmose anymore. The main thing I like about it is that if I use it then I’m not thinking about making a song in live, I’m just noodling. What I want to say (or pose as a question) is; how do we like to work and what gear (or lack of) will help us practice and improve on our workflow, from sketch to completion? For me, it’s still Push. I’d love to see improvements to arranging ideas on push of course. There are some easy wins available, and some perhaps slightly more challenging but I reckon powerful ideas that I discussed with the Push team, and these are on their radar. I have no idea of if or when we can expect them to appear however. What I do think makes sense however is that Push 3 really cements (this piece of) hardware at the core of what Ableton does. I think and hope that this means there is a chance that push user’s needs will start to influence the direction of Live’s development even more. This is pure speculation on my part but to me it makes sense.
@AndriSoren
@AndriSoren Год назад
@@Mikas_Emil oh and one last thought on price. It is a very significant sum. But, we do have the option to start with the intro model. Much more importantly however is that time is ultimately our most precious, impossible to replace resource in this life. Time not creating, making and expressing ourselves is truly a huge cost. I remember the pain and trepidation with which I bought Live 8 in 2010. I also remember how it was one of the best investments I ever made. The same for Push 1. I believe Push 3 will be the same, and will “pay for itself” in the joy it can bring. Again, it’s a large amount of money for anyone anywhere in the world. I do believe that compared to other options it is competitive and Push and Live as a “creative world” have a huge long term value for those who can afford it. That said, what could be bought for similar money back when I started with computer music in 1994 was, well, much much less powerful. That all said. I could keep going with Push 2 or even 1 for a long time and be happy and productive. Ultimately what matters most is our creative energy and time I believe, and those are both such precious things.
