Trackside Model Railroading is a monthly digital magazine covering the hobby of model trains. We aim to bring you the very best in layout coverage with many images and videos to show off the work of the modelers we feature. Modelers who enjoy the art of model railroading and not just one specific scale will enjoy the magazine. We also have DVD and Blu-ray movies that have a documentary story about the railroad & history.
Each digital magazine includes layouts that we have traveled to and photographed extensively. We want readers to feel that they have experienced a thorough tour of each layout we feature. We also have a free lite edition of our magazine that is online only, the other editions are downloadable or as physical DVD movies.

What I appreciate is the number of locomotives on a train. Seems some think 5 locomotives on a 24 car train is prototypical. To me 2 locos pulling a 40 car train is more correct then 4 locomotives pulling a 25 car train!
I couldn't get over the details plus the sound takes it to a whole new level, complete with syncing the sound with the trains actions. Excellent, well done! 😎
I had the honor of physically seeing Stan's model last week. Stan's work is all to scale down to the last bale of hay. The people and animal figurines are so realistic looking. Stan, you are a talented and skilled man. You can be very proud of this accomplishment!
Looks like a very nice layout of Stevens Pass in the steam era! Just one question, how come the DVD/Blu-Ray set with this layout is not on your website's store?
I have one of those mostly unbuilt Kemtron Shay kits I picked up from Van Hobbies so so long ago, a very nice model when built and running. Only the frame is built with my kit. Very nice layout Stan, I would like to see a closeup of the side of the engine to see how you delt with covering up the chain drive. the completed model I saw was modified with different motor and gears, maybe from Northwest short line, made for a quieter and smoother operation, albeit the motor was still tucked away in the tender/tank of the locomotive. 5 stars!
This is amazing. I want to get into z model trains because of the amount of scenery that can be created. I've subscribed to this channel and will be watching more videos. Are there any z gauge model train forums or literature that you all would recommend? Thank you for posting!

Stunning. I LOVE tiny detail in dioramas, and this reminds of diorama on a much grander scale. I'm in awe and would love to see this in person and pore over it at leisure. I'm thinking of Z or T if the selection expands as I love in a small two room apartment. Thanks for sharing and for all the work! The effect of Z scale as explained herein is what really draws me to it. It's not cartoonish like the larger scale where you see the train and then happen to notice some scenery around it, but you see the world and the train comes in and out of view. It mimics real life so much more closely. I'm intrigued enough to research every aspect and start pricing things. Thanks again~ (ps anyone wan't to buy a bunch of OLD HO stuff now???) lol
