Jeez. These Hungarian folk songs are really violent. Committing defenestration against the nanny, possibly decapitating her, and then selling her head in the marketplace? Yeesh! Then you have some dudes named Farmer Johnny and Handsome John Brown, who's apparently the town butcher who's in possession of some rather fancy-schmancy boots with spurs. Then you sing about an apple in a river, and a guy that tries to make time with the miller's daughter. Then top everything off with a bullock, a dog, a hog, some white bread and a bottle on top of one of their heads. Oh, yeah, then there's the whole bit about seven mysterious locks on a red gate, and seven gates around this apparently red town (somewhere ostensibly in Hungary). Maybe the "red" alludes to...blood? Communism? Sounds like a setting for a bizarre Stephen King novel.
Here in the U.S., no one knows the words to our anthem. And when we sing, people look around and look stupid and no one sings. In this video, everyone was singing. Wish I lived there.
Really terrific! It’s all about energy and precision and you nailed it! Our chorale performs it in a couple of days and I hope we can capture a little of your effort.
Like, yt just threw this up for me. I clicked, was listening, and something was strange. (I'm native hungarian speaker.) I didn't know what, then I realised, it's not a hungarion choir. And it took a while for me, so big thumbs up, it's really good pronunciation. Also, beautiful singing!
AMAZING!! I've been trying to find a good choir recording of Dance on My Heart and this is by far the best one. The girls aren't fighting each other to be louder than the others, they meld well together, and their diction was well done for how little the choir is compared to a good amount on here. Some timing was a little off but nonetheless, it's an amazing recording. Those girls (and the pianist) did wonderfully. I especially adored the little back-off decrescendo moments like in "I'm adoringly sweet" and "you'll be satisfied". Crescendos were great too!
