he prob thinks he's playing Schumann symphonic etudes by using so many pedalings and his appoggiaturas are so unidiomatic to the extent that you'd think he's playing Mozart or Beethoven op. 110. Scheisse!!!
Lang Lang breaths new life and best character to every classical piece he plays. It talks to the soul. Suddenly as an audience I can actually see the music and its true colors.
All I see is the hubris of the pianist thinking he's greater than the composer and even the conductor and the whole orchestra. His demeanor and his playing just stinks every inch of that hubris. his phrasing and tone is so absurd and disrespectful of Prokofiev's design of piano in this concerto, he makes the piano sometimes Mozart here, sometime chopin there, over use of pedal is so obvious, his inconsistency of musical languages just shows he has no idea what Russian Formalism, which informs this concerto, is. To be a musician is to be humble in front of the music you play, you serve the music, not the opposite, and he shows his hubris every time he plays this kind of music that requires pianists to follow the tradition. Pianists no matter how great, even Richter, Gilels, Berezovsky, Matsuev, or Sokolov, they will be very careful about this part. This is sacrilege.
Until today I could only see that genious L.L. stomps whith his right foot - now, having a special headset, I realized the audio impression taken by the micros! It remembers me the singing of Glenn Gould playing J.S.Bach...!
