When I collect and save a project to archive it should I freeze all my tracks first so that in the future I would still be able still work on tracks that used plugins that were no longer functioning by flattening them, while with tracks that used plugins that were still functioning I could just unfreeze them in order to be able to adjust any plugin settings? Are there be any drawbacks to this approach?

Wow, despite a big delay, it actually works, many thanks! Incredibly helpful tip, compared to messing around with virtual audio cables and a shitty asio4all driver

@@TomCasey I've found one more way to do this. There's a FlexASIO driver on GitHub, which works in a similar way

Thanks for this mate. So I'm wondering now, should I collect all and save every time I would normally save - assuming I've recorded something new or add things or what not?
@TomCasey
@TomCasey 29 дней назад
I do it when I know I've added a ton of drum samples and loops and whatnot. For me, it's usually towards the end of the project. You could do it every time though, just a few extra clicks

Great video. From a different angle, how much time does it take to acquire this knowledge, to use these stock plugins? Comfort, laziness, instant excitement etc are bad reasons to go for the quick buy, but there must be a trade off. A hundred buks for most of us is a lot of money, so you are willing to spend time, but how about 30 (when plugins are on sale)? In that case it might be worth it.
@TomCasey
@TomCasey Месяц назад
I try to look at a plugin and learn what each knob does individually. Sometimes it takes me several days to really digest everything that a plugin can do. One tip that really worked for me was to turn knobs much more aggressively, so you can really hear the differences. I learned that from a professional mixing engineer who would turn the EQ knobs REALLY aggressively. He said he did that because you want to feel the difference. If you go through each parameter in the plugin that way, I think you can get your bearings and better understand what each thing does.

How do you even begin to write something like this mannnn Like I understand all the chords for what they are but how tf do you lay them out so beautifully... My progressions just sound incoherent
@TomCasey
@TomCasey 2 месяца назад
I would say just keep playing and focus on improvising around one specific idea, like one chord progression at a time. I found my sound through teaching myself music theory and then improvising around specific ideas. I also have a mailing list where I put free content and resources for music producers. [Beachroads.co] has free downloads there and my mailing list we do a ton of different topics for keyboards and music production, definitely check it out, good luck

It allows you to just play stuff on your midi keyboard, and it prints it into your piano roll, so you don't have to spend a lot of time clicking around with the mouse and everything is already quantized

nice tut bro. the thing that annoys me a lot, is when i group tracks, like synths, or a bass group, and the group track can't be hidden on the launchpad, so i have both the grop clips, and the same clips again on the right from the tracks within the group, which i find confusing when performing with launchpad
@TomCasey
@TomCasey 4 месяца назад
yea, i could see how that would be frustrating. I don't think Ableton has a hide group track lane feature (Logic Pro X does). Could be a possibility tho
