I’ve never really used the silencers. It came with them and they are really easy to put in and take out so you could try them both ways and see what you like more. I personally just leave them out all the time
I know this is an older video, but how bad was the drone in the cabin? I plan on putting this on my daily and going on road trips, but I don't know if it's worth it. Did silencers help?
I just don’t get the “certain cars are made for certain ages” type of concept. I’m SURE Subaru didn’t design this car for 16 year olds or college guys. There’s no such thing. I’m 42 and after owning a Volvo S90 for 5 years, I just got a new WRX and in my reality, that means actually moving forward, not backwards. It all depends on what you want at that point of your life, and not how old you are.

I enjoyed this review. In regard to being a good first car for a 16 year old, in this country at least (Australia) a 16 year old is not allowed to drive, and definetly not a WRX, due to P plate (provisional licence) restrictions. And there may be a good reason for that. My own driving, on country roads, commenced at 10 years of age, so I cant really moralize about that law. Secondly, technically speaking you may have been correct about the narrow (maximum)useable power band 0f 1200rpm. Torque is an important element of power, and some would say the Most important. Like a lot of turbo cars the WRX has a big fat flat torque curve from 2500 rpm to 5000 rpm. It is only from that point that horse power is greater than torque. It is torque that responds best to tuning, and torque that is responsible for so much driving pleasure. I rest my case. I am probably old enough to be your Grand Father, so I hope you can cut me some slack in regard to these comments. Thanks again for the review. I hope to have a WRX sooner rather than later.
You fellas are really nitpicking. Who else will sell you a Japan-built, AWD sport compact with a manual transmission for a relative bargain? The only other choice is a GR Corolla, admittedly a better car but significantly more expensive.
I have a '22 Premium. I agree it has the absolute worst seat belt warning. Ever. I turned mine off. Its easy but only works for the drivers seat. I know when to wear my belt- I resent SOA subjecting me to that. My '22 has none of those electronic nannies on my car. Thats one of the main reasons I bought one when ai did. Ive never accidentally pocket-opened my trunk. It's just you two guys.
It’s a super fun car to build! I’m here to help if you have any questions but I will be the first to admit this is the first one I’ve built and there for probably not the expert. The forum is also a good resource if you haven’t checked it out yet.
oh, and also, you CAN disable the seat belt chime. I did it in my BRZ and is was easy - took twenty seconds. there are some RU-vid videos on this subject.
complaining about menus is my biggest issue with almost any car these days. I just hate them and not only are they complicated and a pain in the butt, but they are all different. Worse yet is if you rent a car these days. Good luck getting anything to work unless you read the manual, which, of course is not in a rental car. if you don't like the Subaru's menus and submenus, try a new BMW - it is MUCH worse! Or you could buy a '69 Camaro; it doesn't have any of that! haha
To disable the seatbelt chime. Turn the key in the ignition to "on", the spot just before starting the engine. (Push to start, press the on button twice with your foot off the brake) Buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt 20 times within 30 seconds. Immediately take the key out of the ignition. Enjoy your chime-less Subaru :) You only have to do this once and the chime is off for good. Unless your battery dies. Also, you can toggle the chime on/off by following the same instructions.
biggest issue for me is that massive tablet screen. Subaru went all in on implementing that into all of their cars. Personally I think it's a mistake. Would have loved to see a regular touch screen up top with physical controls below. Passed on this car for this reason alone.
The redline can be bumped up with tune but most tuners are only doing 6500 some do 7k but I heard you should do better valve springs for 7k an even tho the rev limit less than last gen it makes power longer than last gen that's why it's low max hp is at 5600 rpms an then the car starts bleeding off boost
@@baldygrey2779 on my Ascent, it does stay from the last setting you left it before you turn off the car. The features is pretty much the same so I would think so. Also, its just a press of a button on the steering wheel anyway.
If you are building a Goblin, it is highly recommended to read through a couple of build logs on the DF Goblin forum that match your donor year/model before you start building, as many of the lessons learned here have already been learned and thoroughly documented in those build logs. Congrats on the first start, it's a great feeling! Good luck with the subframe install, getting everything to align can be a chore. See my recommendation above.
23:46 “now if you’re watching this and you’re about 16 years old and you’re trying to convince your parents that this is the car for you… I would say, I agree with you” 😂
I have no problem spooling the turbo in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear, the only gear that has issues spooling is 1st because it's so short you don't get alot of time of on throttle before redline.
You CAN stop the seatbelt noise!!! There is a hack to it, at least for the front seat. Look it up you have to turn it on and buckle it/unbuckle it 30 times rapid fire and it turns it off
The sti wasn't made because it couldn't meet cafe standards. The wrx itself is already in motion to be discontinued atleast as a gas powered only car (the vb is most likely the last generation) The sti was in the works as a vb, just take a look at the coin tray in a vb wrx, the dccd from the va fits perfectly in it.
Great video, thanks showcasing this beauty of a car. One correction however, the keyless access and push to start is available starting at the Premium trim level, not the Limited.
