Awesome video, thank you! Which Sony full frame would be similar to the tech in the A6700? I bought the A6700 to shoot photos and short videos of my teens full pitch soccer games and practices (day and night), plus to shoot some travel, family stuff. I suspect once I learn the camera, I will get paid bookings from other parents. The A6700 is FANTASTIC but it feels like a brick ergonomically and the EVF on the left and so small is quite uncomfortable; I cant see well what Im shooting and vertical hold is awkward bc the EVF is on left (I dont shoot looking at LCD). I need a bigger EVF and in the middle. But the FF Sonys would loose the ASP crop! Looking into a Canon R7 but I hear the Canon lenses are a lot heavier, more expensive, not as good as Sony lenses....? Or perhaps which SONY FF though Id loose the crop.......? What should I do? Help lol. What lens range should I start with? Is the Sony 70-350 good enough for soccer or just do 100-400? Thanks! @PMRTV
Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing this. I don't have an a7Rv yet, but I'm considering buying one as an upgrade to my hybrid a7iv (mainly for better stills capability) and ability to 'punch-in' to APS-C (26Mp) for smaller files or extra reach with tele lenses. I do a little video too but I'm circa 90% stills 10% video, as an amateur. I always heard that the a7Rv (like the a7iv) suffered badly from rolling shutter, but your video didn't particularly seem to have an obvious RS problem. If/when I get an a7Rv i will experiment with AF tracking-on and cancel via lens button. Does it work .ikethis tooforthe never a9iii?
I have this lens and am being told "always have it on f/8 and always AUTO ISO. Thats the sharpest for this lens" ? Is it because I was shooting birds in flight, that he said that ? Im using a Sony a7IV. I often struggle with "perfect sharp" photos. I know it can take amazing shots. Ive had some (not many) crispy sharp shots. But for shooting deer, and other slow moving things, should I go to f5.6 and manual iso ? This lens is, sadly, VERY sensitive to low light. Such a shame, cause I love this lens so much. Thank you for a really good video btw :)
I built my business of the backk of the ax700. Being i stream through satellite internet to ppv in remote locations, I really wish I had access to this video earlier on. I would have went nx majority with 1 dx. It would have cost the same as 3 to 4 ax700s. I typically have 4 camcorders running at the same time. I would have loved to have the xlr out and all them options with a handle.
In a section of the video you said that both the body and lens work together. On my A9iii with the 70-200 gm ii, I get a message when I go to the Steady Shot on my body "Invalid with this lens. If the lens has a SteadyShot witch, perform the operation from the lens". Any thoughts on that?
Have 6 different camera bags and cases i use depending on the assignment and travel requirements. I have 5 rain covers in each bag of 12-24, 24-70mm, 70-200mm f2.8 400mmf2.8, 600mm f4 rain covers might be overkill. i left behind a rain cover and my pro Nikon Dslr D5 stopped working in monsoon rain until i dried it out over a couple of days and sent to Nikon to ceck it out and was fine. Thought me to pack each bag or case with rain covers and to avoid future costs
Dear Patrick, The color is amazing. I have Sony A1 with 400mm. Life of me I can not get video either handheld or mono-pod it is hard to keep video steady with minimum jitter. I can do IS post edit, but I am not happy with 400mm's IS. Mine is brand new. It shoots stills perfectly! Any tips? Should I send out for inspection to Sony Pro service?
@@PMRTV I am shooting 120 fps during the day time in order to post process to do slo-mo if I want to. IDK what shutter I am shooting. I shoot auto during the day. At night owl shots I do full manual with tripod. No issue at night.
what focus setting are you using for video ....i use the a9iii now and trying to do video i still cant figure out the best focus setting for video ....zone or tracking spot ? ....why do 120 vs do the S&Q and get slow that way ?
I bought the Tamron and Viltrox 20mm f/2.8 small compact lenses and they are great. I have a problem with the Sony 24mm f/2.8 because of always hitting the On/Off manual switch. I finally taped it to keep it from moving. Cheers!
Don’t even know why you did a comparison. Do you think Canon shooters are going to sell all their gear so they can go Sony for this lens seriously? I’m sure this is going to be an amazing lens and that’s great for Sony shooters. I can also tell you Canon shooters could care less and they’ll love their 100 to 300.
If you want better fuel mileage, get you a Triumph Sprint GT, the best sport touring bike ever made. I get 48 to 50 mpg at sea level, 60 to 68 Mpg above 7000 feet at any speed. Even my 2001 Sprint ST would get an average of 50 to 52 no matter how I rode it. Really appreciate your information on the Colorado Highway 50.
Hi! What would you recommend for desert/offroad photography and videography? There is a bunch of LED lighting at night. It's my first camera so I'm looking for something easy to learn but will also offer great results.
possibly the RX10 Mark II? This would keep all dust off the sensor because it's sealed up but it probably wouldn't work well at night when they are racing. Sounds like a great place to be with fast primes (135, 50, 35GM's).
Well I decided to pull the trigger on the nx800. Figured I didn’t need timecode or sdi. And seeing that never use them before and I’ve been looking for a nice all-in-one camcorder and I’ve been invested into the Sony ecosystem. This will be a nice addition to cover racing events and some sporting events. I still plan on using it alongside my FX 30. I almost went and bought the Canon Xf605 just because of all the solid reviews. But since they came out with the new Sony camcorders that have the auto focus like my A7rv
I think you will be pleased. The new stacked 1" sensor really does well in low light even at the extreme end of the telephoto portion of the zoom. Quality-wise, there should be no difference between the NX800 and the V200.
@@PMRTV since all the reviews so far only showcase the z200, but they say the nx800 is the same figured to just get it over the z200 and use the extra cash to get i nice fluid head and tripod and i quality xlr microphone for it. I am super excited to have such a wide zoom range. I might use it for some wildlife videos since we have a large Elk viewing center. Thanks for the quick response
@@PMRTVwell my nx800 came in and wow it seems like it’s a lot smaller than in the video. But I am super impressed with the image quality. Even zoomed all the way out I thought it was gonna be pretty crappy but in 4K it’s pretty good. But I’ve been trying to figure out all the features and I just messed around with the new auto framing and, that just totally blew my mind. It’s like having your own camera guy filming you and panning right and left up and down following you. I didn’t realize the further you walked back and actually zoomed in on you. That totally just caught me off guard. I thought it was just gonna follow me right and left. And I have the FX 30 without the top handle and the audio. I am getting out of it with Sony ecm-xm1 XLR microphone is some of the best audio just sitting in front of the camera talking to it that I’ve gotten. It did take me about three hours to figure out. You have the long press the menu button to get into the main menu feature like a mirrorless camera lol. But having built-in and ND filters and variable and D filter is really nice. I am going to have a lot of fun with this.
PM-R. RIT is my alma mater, got my BFA Degree in Photojournalism, Filmmaking/TV there. A great school. Got my Masters Degree in Digital Photography from SCAD. Cheers
Hi there! Thank you for video! Id like to ask is a9 mark I so much better in terms of autofocus? and what about fast autofocus zoom lenses? Ihave 24-240 with my A7iii, I shoot drifting, and i cant say what is slow in my setup, a7iii or 24-240. What lens do you recomend to shoot fast action with a7iii for now and for a9iii for the best perfomance? Thanks!
a pesar de todo, se siente esa textura 90tera, no niego q es un equipazo para estreaming pero ya hay clientes q nos les gusta esa textruea!! por eso pase a blackmagic para streamear
I am looking for a hybrid cam to shoot some sports and thanks for your video! It looks smoothier than I think. May I know if there quite a number of footages found unusable in post due to rolling shutter of A7RV? My planning of footage would also involve runnings and some swingings (ice hockey).
when will we see you do a game with the A1 and the A9III to see how they do against each other at a football game or vollyball since its those sports season ....cuz i am thinking of buying a second camera and i own the a9iii now but think having the A1 would be good second camera or just buy another a9iii ? cuz i can get good price on used A1 now around $4K
absolutely. PW are generally good to 1600' if it's line of sight. It's less around corners and in buildings with a ton of steel in them. PW's will generally almost never false (not fire). With Westcott, if it's more than about 150', I switch to PW's.
I don’t think there’s any point in making people mad it’s just your opinion. As each person‘s gonna have to figure out what’s important to them, but as somebody who’s well invested in canon, RF mount the 100-300 is far superior “for me”. The Sony 300 is an absolute achievement and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it but for me since I’m also a videographer, I would literally never purchase a prime photo like that as they have very little practical use, but the 100 to 300 mm is super practical because of its range. I actually rented one and walked around all day with it and didn’t think weight was a problem for it at all especially with the big handle. But then I’m used to walking around with cameras and everything at corporate events with gimbals too so it’s versatility and presence is amazing and for those who need a 300 mm it’s no doubt in my mind that the Sony is amazing.
@@PMRTV or if high resolution isn’t a problem you can put the r5 or r5 II in 1.6 crop mode which brings the file size down to 17 megapixels and then you get a 480 mm somewhere between 2.8 and 5.6 in light gathering equivalent.
I currently use the Sigma 85mm F1.4 a stunning lens apart from the paint on the metal which is terrible (chips so easily) So I have no need for this lens. Not that that will stop me getting it :) Sony is hitting home run after home run with their new GM lenses.
@@PMRTV same for the wildlife shooters. I will get this lens, not that I need it, more that I want it to complete my GM line up. Better than giving the money to the tax man :)
Thanks for your video Patrick. I'm wondering what's your process for stabilisation? I'm filming basketball games but I am getting micro-jitters and skips here and there. I am currently only shooting 30fps. I've tried with Active Steadyshot and Standard, tripod/monopod, handheld and use Davinci Resolve to post stabilise. Not sure if the camera stabilisation is affecting Davinic's stabilisation. Would you have any thoughts on this?
I will let you know what I think when I get mine to go with my current 135mm f1.8 GM. I couldn't get the new 85mm f1.4 GM II in time for a trip to the Caribbean starting this weekend ,where I will be doing some model photography. I will make do fine with my 135mm f1.8 GM and my other lenses. Cheers
I have no idea but it's hard to compare two focal lengths that are that different. I'd bet they are similar but I'm mor eof a real shootin' dude vs. a scientist. I'm just glad Sony made a fast prime ready for hoops!!!!
