That’s rad! I just ordered that new Bambu lab 3d printer which has carbon fiber capabilities as well so hopefully it ships as it’s a kickstarter.

I learned SolidWorks and Blender during covid and that lead me into getting some FDM 3d printers. From there I've started playing with 3D printing molds and pouring resin in (silicone, so far). That workflow is a total game-changer for quick prototyping.

Hi, thanks alot for your valuable time spent on these videos,it's greatly helpful, I'm working in start up company as design engineer. Management has requested to push the build more towards automation where I'm concerned that the product cost is going to shoot high compared to manual assembly. It would be good to know if which design would suit us..it's a new concept consumer electronics product. We are not very sure about the numbers as yet.. expected to reach demand

Thanks for sharing, Scott! Your laser cutter and your 3D printer are light-years ahead of my generic laser cutter and my old FlashForge 3D printer, but where's your CNC cutter (for molds and metal parts) and your reflow oven (for your PCB prototypes)? I think a sequel is warranted!

Scott, a great desktop tool to add to your collection is a Carvey. Similar to Markforged browser based client, very easy intro to CNC and safe for kids w/interlocks and easy built-in design software. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a9LpGpt5a7g.html

Very impressive that you were able to diagnose the problem and put the thing back together. With how cheap nerf blasters are, so many mechanical features are molded into the 2 part shell that even taking it apart can cause random parts to fall out with no obvious way to put back in place. This is an area where I think airsoft is simply a lot more consumer friendly as most of the parts are completely interchangeable. But I don't find Onyx to be a great material for gears since it has an abrasiveness to it, but you can actually run Taulman 910 nylon through a markforge and get pretty good results. You just need to place some dummy parts so that the extruder never pulls to the corner to let the part cool before starting the next layer. The retraction settings are tuned only for Onyx so you end up with strings on the outside if the extruder isnt constantly printing.

Seems like a general non specific solution. Unless the cost savings is enormous I don't see this as consumer facing

@DragoninnovationInc

Hey Clint -- Thanks for the feedback and yes, we definitely would love to improve the quality of these (on the long list of things to do!). If helpful, we have the accompanying slides here: blog.dragoninnovation.com/2014/07/25/dfm-course-5-injection-molding/ And then we don't offer mold design services, rather we support our customers to select qualified factories with the capabilities to support their injection molding requirements. Feel free to hit our website (dragoninnovation.com) to learn more.

If you know the shrinkage value for a material say .004cm/cm for ABS. How do you decide on a particular dimention for example 2mm wall thickness?
@DragoninnovationInc
@DragoninnovationInc 7 лет назад
The mold maker will take the cad files, which should be designed at the desired nominal dimensions of the part, and then will account for the material shrinkage in designing the actual cavity of the mold.

We typically rely on the air vents for injection molding. For a silicone molds, we'd use a vacuum.
