Don't highpass your drums, it just causes phase issues and makes your drums sound unnatural. Use a low shelf cut. Listen to respected engineers not amateur youtubers, you'll just have to unlearn bad techniques like these. Any decent engineer will tell you to cut, not boost.
I think notching things out on the reverb return. Is not a good idea. Creates a lot of weird phrasing The reverb channel should sound very natural because it’s supposed to be making it sound natural Simple low-cut is enough If you need to notch out resonant frequencies, do it at source… As for pre-EQ on the reverb, that’s always a good idea. Just don’t overdo it and certainly no notches At the end of the day the rules are there are no rules Only good practice
I’m new to orchestral mixing and I found this video very interesting and useful. It didn’t make any assumption on what I may or may not know already. In terms what I would find helpful, I have some tracks where the strings have a very wide dynamic range, and need to know how to manage such things so that at their peak they don’t clip the track or drown everything else out.
This is actually a not good review nowadays because with the time WA changed the tube for a much better one and the tone is now better with les harsh highs and more body.
