Every single day I watch a new movie. It's either an old movie I've never seen before (or it's been at least five years since I've seen it) OR a brand new movie.
Old Movie Reviews come out in sets of three on Tuesdays and Thursdays and New Movie Reviews release all by themselves on Wednesdays (and sometimes Fridays and Mondays)!
I thought I was going crazy being the only reviewer who disliked this movie too. I agree with your thoughts entirely.. I didn’t even want to review the movie… very obnoxious voice behind a manicured, but indulgent movie.
i disagree with you about billy being gay. keep in mind this is the same day he just got out of prison after 5 years. he probably had to fight off a bunch of perverted creeps trying to look and touch his dck for the last 5 years and that was probably the last thing he wanted to deal with the very day he gets out is some guy trying to look at his dck while he's trying to piss. i also dont think gallo is a "piece of sht", i think he was going through a nervous breakdown while trying to make this film. i dont agree with some of his political views, but i also dont think that makes anyone a bad person. a piece of sht to me is someone like a rapst or a serial killer, what did gallo do to ricci that was so bad besides yell at her? did he hit her? did he S assault her? no. i gaurentee she's worked with worse people.
My feelings on the film are so split. I really really like the first part of the film, up through the colony and all the face hugger stuff, then it falls off HARD for me. Lots of small issues in the back half that just compound on top of each other for me. I'm a huge alien fan, but the kind of fan who gets taken out of a film by too many callbacks, lore references, and easter eggs, and this film was lousy with them.
@@CharlieMoe it was my English class. I did a paper on the dialogue. Every single person plays their character and delivers their lines perfectly. I'm 40 now and it's still one of my #1 movies I make people watch.
@@wesleywouldifhecould I love that! You really nailed it too. The dialogue and delivery are just perfect! There's no better way to describe it. I hope you got a good grade! Also, I wanted to add, I went to a convention earlier this year where I got to talk to both Freddy Prince Jr. and Rachel Leigh Cook and both of them had nothing but praise to giver Parker. Freddy in particular had many kind things to say both about her and his time making this movie. He described her as like a big sister.
Bro your vids are so high quality how come you don't have anymore views on this you totally deserve to, plus I'm on a kick with watching movies with this new up and coming actress she's definitely carrying the Weaving legacy foward in the future.
I think Terminator 1 is my favorite movie of all time. I really like the oppressive desperate atmosphere of it, something T2 lacks a bit. I also think using a fixed time-loop as the twist ending for a time travel movie is brilliant. Fun fact, the deleted scenes for T1 reveal that the factory at the end is a Cyberdyne factory, and has the Terminator remains get covered up (a plot point recycled into T2) - which means that the time loop is also directly responsible for the gestation of SkyNet, and that SkyNet and Connor are both sending their respective fathers back in time. I get why the Cyberdyne subplot stuff was cut for pacing, but I really love the concept of it. Edit: Another time-loop plot element cut in scripting was Sarah being identified by metal screws in her leg from an injury and the Terminator checking for those screws in the victims. It would turn out that that injury was actually the one that happens in the factory, further cementing the time-loop from another angle.
Further, T2 is pretty much a hard retcon on the way the Terminator universe functions. This has also always bothered me. My "head-canon" to fix it is a multi-layered time-loop that eventually wraps back after a few loops through different timelines - this works well with Terminator: Dark Fate, too. The thing that kills T3 for me is the tone. It takes the humor elements that I think T2 just manages to pull off and pushes them past the breaking point.
I can def understand T1 being your favorite. It really is fantastic! And thanks for sharing those deleted scenes with me! I honestly think they make me like the movie even more.
@@amindformadness That head-canon makes sense. I can buy that. And I totally get what you're saying about the tone. I can def think of some moments/jokes off the top of my head that didn't land for me. It wasn't enough to bring it down for me, but I can easily see it bothering others more.
Watch Rogue Heroes, the real story of the origin of the SAS, this is an overblown idea of one special op. Rogue Heroes is based on the real guys, their first missions in Libya. Yes, Ian Fleming worked for SOE, ran many spies in and out of occupied Europe, so, yes, he knew what he was talking about when he wrote the Bond novels, including M, head of what later became MI6.
I actually really liked the film. I thought the extended flashback really helped in showing us where his true anger stems from, and truly explores the personal hatred between the cop and the lead. I actually wished the movie was slightly longer though, as we didn't get much character development for main villain of the film.
I usually don't review tv shows, but I love Beast Wars so much, it's tempting... I did a presentation on it in college and I convinced a few of my classmates to check it out. It's just so good!
The library is a GREAT place to get movies!!! Oh, Errol is so dreamy!! I loved "Captain Blood". Olivia really liked Errol, too, but said she wouldn't dream of having a personal relationship with him outside of work. By all accounts, Errol "got around" and was a rascal. His autobiography is titled "MY WICKED, WICKED WAYS." Bette Davis wanted Laurence Olivier to play Essex opposite her Elizabeth, but got Errol instead. They did not get along. I would have enjoyed "GWTW" a bit more if Errol had played Rhett Butler. But, as we know, the public demanded Clark Gable. Gable did not want to do "GWTW" and had hissy fits all throughout the filming.
Charlie: Julie Andrews is one of my favorite people. I LOVE "Victor/Victoria" and think it is the best film of the three. I'm sorry you did not like it, but people either love V/V or they don't... I'm gay, too, so there's THAT important factor in my loving it!! I did not like "Darling Lili", either, so I completely agree with you on that. Lastly, I was the guy who suggested in the comments of another video that you review "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" and you did!!! I'm glad you LOVED THAT ONE!!! (Classic!!) I LOVE your energy level. Stay Safe & Well: Thanks!! Oh, see Julie Andrews in "DUET FOR ONE" (1986) and new on Blu-Ray. She plays a violinist stricken with multiple sclerosis. It's a drama, and obviously not a musical. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the recommendations! Sorry I didn't like the one. ☹️ Also I tried to find Duet for One, but I just couldn't find it easily available. I'll keep my eye out though! I still would like to watch it!
Hi, Charlie: Katharine Hepburn had better on screen chemistry with Cary Grant than she did with Spencer Tracy, in my opinion! I also believe there's an undercurrent of sadness in "Holiday" that helps keeps the rich characters relatable (Remember, the brother Ned is alcoholic, and non-conformist Linda is deeply unhappy. Johnny is dissatisfied, and wants more out of life while he's young. Julia is just a stuck-up "B"). I'm sorry you didn't "get" "Bringing Up Baby". I did, but it's not a film for everybody. People certainly didn't "get it" in 1938, either. "Sylvia Scarlett" is my least favorite of the three films.
This was the era of World Class Championship Wrestling. This was the territory of Fritz Von Erich and his sons. This was the era of Harley Race, Ric Flair, Bruiser Brody, Jerry Lawler, Kamala, Tommy Rich, The Missing Link and The Fabulous Freebirds. Rest in Peace Texas Tornado. The Iron Claw film shows the hardships and tragedies of the Von Erich family. The film needed two more music montages in the first 45 minutes of the movie since the story dragged at the beginning, but it then picked up for the rest of the film. The only acting weak link in the film came from the actor who portrayed Ric Flair who was atrocious in the role. This is during the era of World Class Championship Wrestling. Shirley MacLaine tends to get on my LAST nerve! But I do agree with you that the Academy Awards are historically and usually a big bucket of horse poop! BTW: Dolly, played by Shirley Booth, is the MAIN CHARACTER of "The Matchmaker", so its about how she gently manipulates everything and everyone around her. I agree; it is WEIRD to see Anthony Perkins and Shirley MacLaine together in such a light romantic farce, because he was shortly thereafter typecast as mentally unbalanced characters, and MacLaine often played characters who are SEVERELY, clinically depressed. It's weird to see both of them in a film where they are happy and smiling.
The store "Psychologist" is my main problem with the 1947 version. I'm so glad you loved the 1994 version because it, too, is my favorite version (A minority opinion, by the way). I agree: the 1994 version "fixed" all my problems with the 1947 version. I used to love the 1947 film (it's still great!), but the 1994 version won my heart, and I can't watch the original 1947 version anymore because it now seems too "old-fashioned" by comparison. (BTW: Have you seen "The Sound Of Music" (1965), and where does it sit on your lists? Thanks, and Merry Christmas.
I'm glad to hear we're in agreement with these great films! I believe I have seen The Sound of Music, but it's been YEARS. Long before I started ranking movies. Though I do vaguely remember enjoying it. So it's probably time for a rewatch. Merry Christmas to you as well!
@@CharlieMoe: Please do re-watch "The Sound Of Music" and pair it up with two others; musicals perhaps, or other films with Julie Andrews. I suggest "VICTOR/VICTORIA" (1982) or "DUET FOR ONE" (1986- new to Blu-Ray in 2023). Thanks.
This movie was smile-inducing to me. Timothée Chamalet was fantastic, the villains were extremely over the top but I found them to be entertaining as well. Paul King brought so much charm, energy, and charism to the screen through his direction. Hugh Grant stole the show despite having limited screen time and the musical sequences were a lot of fun! Not my favourite of the year by any means, but I found it incredibly delightful and I had a great time with it. Great review, Charlie! Keep creating these videos 👍
Thanks! Yeah, I'm so happy that I found these films. And I'm very glad I'm able to share them with others! To answer your question, the short answer is, I wanted to watch three Non-English films from a country I normally don't think of, when thinking of foreign films. And on Netflix you can search by language. So I looked through a number of different languages and a couple of the Malaysian ones really stood out. That's about it!
