I don't think they are very good at all. This is one of my favourite pieces of music, and I've not heard it played so expressionlessly before. No finesse, no emotion. And lots of duff notes.
A brilliant less than perfect production. I enjoyed it very much. They forgot to include the audience participation. Coughing.Still can’t have everything.
Very Nice , from a player who in 1962 studied with English hornist Engelbert Brenner of the NYP and was sent to Vietnam in 1969 to play in the Army Band, even playing Beethoven 6th with the Saigon Symphony, who had need for winds!
The orchestra was at its glorious best: alternately compelling, powerful, delicate, and sweet under Ian’s passionate and exuberant leadership. Exquisitely balanced and sublime. Bravo to all!
