Armortek 1/6 RC vehicles building super detailing interior and exterior and driving RC tanks. I have been collecting and building since 2011. I have moved my hobby from a very small bedroom to a well equipped cosy workshop in my garden. I have a number of projects at various levels of completion. I hope viewers will be interested in my many modifications and building tips. This channel will not be out of the box builds. Also, I like to make most of my components in metal and try to avoid adding plastic or resin aftermarket parts.
Armortek vehicles in collection. Late Tiger 1 (No. 212) Late Tiger 1 (No. 312) Early Tiger 1 Panzer IV SDFZK 222
Follow the channel and see if I ever manage to bring a model to what I consider complete. It seems whenever I get close to completing a model I get an idea to add more details.
I also live to visit military museums so will cover these visits also.
@@davidmartyn5044 I will put up Panzer IV photo gallery soon. A much more rare but possibly more interesting model. thanks for taking time to make a comment.
Great Tank and display. One word of advice, try to lover your camera angle. A tank looks way more sinister from grund level 😎 I really need to find time to finish my own AT Tiger 1.
@@davidmartyn5044 sorry, it was actually a bit of a rush job. I made videos before heading to the airport. After my holidays I will do better in nice locations and hopefully alternative footage other than camera so stay tuned. There will be a running video of Tiger 212 shortly.
One possible issue with the mudguard support triangles is dirt/mud, or worse a twig, getting caught up in there. But, depending on the terrain you run it on, it may not be a problem.
@@Viewfromtheturret Hopefully will not be a problem. Front and rear mudguards probably at more risk, If you drive the model you can expect something to get caught up at sometime. I try to avoid muddy conditions.
Great video as always, John. Keep them coming, I know it’s a lot of work but your videos have gotten so much better, your attention to detail on your builds is inspiring. Enjoy your holidays stay safe.
@@MrKurt888 have a look at this earlier video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7frMqrnyaZc.htmlsi=VQ9_9wn7FjxAoVEr I am using a universal cutting, bending and rolling machine from WarcoUK. Easily cuts through .7mm brass with a perfect non sharp cut. It’s supposed to be able to cope with up to 1mm
Stay subscribed. After my summer holidays U will do a full tutorial on painting my early Tiger 1. I use a type of modulation style but more for practice. When painting these models it’s not totally necessary as the scale itself creates its own light and shadow. Driving the vehicle creates its own weathering. But more to come.
It is worth looking out for a good used kit if you have space. I started with some 1/16 models and spent a lot trying to upgrade. No comparison. I have not touched 1/16 since getting these. Armortek are best. I have worked on 1/6 scale mark 1 models for a friend and cannot compare. Make sure to stay subscribed, more to come.
@@RCPanzerDK Building from scratch is a good option. I have made many components on my early tiger from scratch. I found a full turret and upper hull in the spares bin at the Armortek factory. Made many missing parts and Armortek were able to supply many other items at a reasonable price.
Could you drill a 1mm hole in the turret traverse gear and use a bit of paper clip as a lock pin? I'm assuming the adhesive is used to protect the motor by allowing the gear to shear in the event of the turret jamming against anything whilst rotating. A soft alloy pin might be just as effective and possibly less messy.
This turret is really heavy. I have lower back pain at the moment after taking this turret off a few times. A paper clip wouldn’t cope with the stress. I was thinking of fitting a grub screw but didn’t test the hardness of the steel. I have contacted Armortek and was advised that the solution was to clean parts really well and use loctite 638 to retain the gear. I have ordered this and will let you know how this works in the next video.
@16rctankworkshop-yv8kl I hope the back pain clears quickly. I keep forgetting how heavy it is. Loctite is my new favourite company. I've been struggling with engine vibration on my old diesel. Certain nuts kept unscrewing. Someone suggested I use a Loctite formula and I haven't had a problem since. I'm looking forward to the next update.
It is a card supplied by Armortek but I think it is produced by a company called Benidinni. This came with the vehicle as part of the sound and motion packages. The original owner bought from Armortek with motion, sound, smoker and blank firer. I sold the blank firer a few years back.
Thank you. A lot more painting and weathering to complete and some details to finish. All of the markings are hand painted. I have made some decals recently for other RC models so will probably make decals for other aspects of the detailing such as the interior. The base has some colour modulation techniques used but really not essential in this scale. I think the models create their own highlights and shadows. Looking forward to getting it outside for some driving and photos. I will cover the painting techniques when painting the early tiger 1, Panzer IV and sdkfz222
@@16rctankworkshop-yv8kl Wow! You've got some mad skills on those markings since they are hand painted. Looking forward to future videos, keep up the great work and content.
@@16rctankworkshop-yv8kl trust me buddy ! Why would I bother to make a comment , ask your other prescribers, I’m not having a go at you mate , I love your work 😊, Sound quality isn’t great that’s all I’m saying x God bless .
@@christiandowney4120 Thanks Christian. One of three Tigers. Hope to get outside for a run soon and photoshoot. There were some great wartime photos of Tiger 312 from the 505th.
Hi, I was a little confused on how you soldered. Am I right in saying that you applied solder first, joined the two parts then reheated for them to bond? Its something that I want to do on future Armortek models. Good up the good work.
It’s the way I attach the pieces. Otherwise I find it hard to get enough heat to make the joint, just takes a few seconds with a small gas heat gun. Apply some flux also. Use dome small clamps. Most important to keep everything clean for a good joint.
I’m not an expert metalworker but it’s probably like brazing but with solder instead of welding rods. The other mudguards I show on lathe late tiger was a kit mudguards which I detailed using other components. The kit components back in 2007 were a bit clunky but I think they still use same mudguards components.
Thank you for taking the time to re-edit the sound. Much appreciated 👍 I've been wondering how much extra weight your upgrades add to the basic set up? Will the additional weight affect the motor or battery life?
Regarding the added weight. Won’t make any difference. Most of what I have added in the Early Tiger so far is saving weight. My new turret bin is half the weight of the original. My mudguards in brass are lighter than the steel kit ones. The kit feifel components are heavy white metal and I will replace with a lighter version. The tiger originally was capable of taking a blank firing magazine. This was an extremely heavy item. If I fit my 88mm gun breech and full interior it will still be lighter. So far everything I have added is weight saving. My interior gun enhancements actually balance the gun barrel and reduce the effort required by the motor to operate elevation. There is nothing I could add that the vehicle couldn’t handle.
Much better audio and I really appreciate the new edit. You provide an ton of useful information and specific pointers which are very helpful to those of us who will some day be building one of these amazing models, keep the videos coming!
Better without the music background. I’m not good with computers and cameras. Making the videos take more time than building tanks. Hope to get more done before holidays. I
Hello Warren, thank you for your support. I got the lathe and milling machine at the same time. I followed a channel on RU-vid. Ades workshop. Plenty of interesting starter projects focused on improving the lathe, making new handles etc. then I started making items for my builds. I am happy with my choice of milling machine but should have went bigger with the lathe. It didn’t take long to start finding uses for the machines but there is quite a bit of outlay on tools to use with the machines.
I have ATs 44 panther I'm building at the moment hopefully have it finished this year my favourite WW2 Tank along with the Tiger 1 which you are building at the moment to a very high standard I did see the one you took to the AT open day very nice zimmerit and 3 tone paint scheme
The turret is the old cast type turret from Armortek and has a nice texture. The new turrets are smooth finish. On hull plates I use a dremel type tool fitted with a round head milling grinder attachment. They tend to come with the dremel kits and nobody knows what to use them on. Just let it bounce over the armour fairly random. After that you can apply some mr surfacer in places.
This early Tiger is really really coming out spectacular like adding this heavy duty bin originally intended to hold elements of tracks if I'm not mistaken, around 70 kg each elements. But also to carry related parts like pins. Quite heavy indeed. I'm always impressed seeing your craftsmanship, good job 👏 👍 👌
@@16rctankworkshop-yv8kl sorry for saying such a wrong statement as it is impossible to carry such heavy track links as the bin is made of thin metal. I have bought some years ago a Heynes repair manual on the Bovington Tiger and actually mentioned the turret bin but my book is in Italy and I'm in Sweden now so I don't remember what it is written. Sorry I'm a bit distracted sometimes....
Thank you for making this video, for taking the time to explain and show not only the techniques but even the size of the actual rivets. Many other RU-vid builders just gloss over these critical details, I especially appreciate how those tricky latches go together! 👍
Glad you liked the video. This channel aims at showing those extra details. Not a channel for box openings. The clasps are OK but a bit delicate. Pin holes are very small. (I use peco track rail pins.) It's getting difficult to source the clasps now. About the rivets, I use 3/64. You could use 1/32. There is a great difference in size though and using the 1/32 would mean drilling into steel and aluminium with a very small drill. I broke a few bits with this project. Thank for taking the time to comment.
Hi Davey, Checked again. I think I initially looked at the mantlet which of course is not mirrored in dimensions either side. I took my bearings from centre of the gun so travel lock bolt marks are central. Thanks for pointing out the mistake. I will mention in next video. Do you mind if I ask if you are David from Tiger1.info?
@@16rctankworkshop-yv8kl Yes, Tiger1.info is my work. Why not put a ruler across the middle of the turret and see if the lock bolts fall at the halfway mark?
I'm not that sad. I like to get the components right but welding to me is just decoration. I have seen a few Tigers up close and welds were not identical. Also I will not stick rigidly to Early, Mid or Late. Vehicles were often refitted with updated parts so I go with what I like.
I really apologies not commenting but I actually following much as possible your very interesting videos on your wonderful tank but unfortunately I'm working very hard driving the tractor 🚜 for my Swedish girlfriend so I'm really tired at the end of the day. Looking forward for your new videos because I I'm really impressed with your knowledge and standards of workmanship 👍👍👍👏
Almost finished next video. It’s slow going as I am trying to add details, work on kit parts and make my own parts. I would like to be able to produce 1 video a week but making the video record slows down the process even more. Stay tuned. There a nice scratch built component coming in the next video.
My tanks are not for sale at present but kits are available from Armortek.co.uk There are used kits for sale by owners on the Armortek forum. Used market has best value. If you contact Armortek they can place an add on the forum for you. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel. 👍
Can you build mine for me?😁 I've had my Tiger 1 from armortek for ages but don't seem to have the time and skills to build it. I started it years ago but only got to put the lower hull together and got stuck on the torsion bar fitting. Haven't touched it since.
I Would love to take on a commission build but I am in Ireland so difficult unless you can get vehicle to me. It’s a pity to have it lying unfinished. What type is it? Early, mid or late. Do you know what year it was produced? Do you have motion kits? Watch my video on the suspension set up, however after some research it appears Armortek makes small changes or improvements with every release.
