I loved this show so much when I was younger but I have to admit that seeing this portrayal allowed me the space to deconstruct the idea that this young black boy grew up with, admiring and hoping that my family resembled their family. Thank you to the creative team for doing such a great job in capturing the characters and actors behind the scenes. The Brady Bunch still has a very special place in my childhood but seeing this has liberated me from the version of my childhood that I thought wasn’t good enough.
@@phineasnewborniii8249 Thank you so much. Of all the films I’ve done, this is a personal favorite. And like you, I too measured my own family against the Brady fantasy; a process which was often distressing and depressing. So I was happy to reveal the truth and complexity behind the illusion. Thanks again!
What is this? I don’t ever remember seeing this. Robert Reed loved the kids and the other cast members but hated the producers and the silly and bad scripts. Sherwood and his son were the worst.
Robert reed was such a positive role model and father figure to the brady kids. It was a shame he had an ego over stage vs tv performing. He was so good at being a dad. This performance captured reeds heart and his ego beautifully. What an emotional bittersweet documentary. 🥲
It's too bad Reed couldn't just suck it up and get through one last episode for the season for the sake of the show. Was it a silly episode? Sure. But it wasn't altogether unbelievable and besides, after five years what was he expecting? He should have hashed his grievances in the off season instead of making it about him in front of everybody. Very unprofessional.
Look if rob didn’t like it - quit they had a hit show be grateful he didn’t exactly do Oscar work after the Brady’s - remember all the spin offs variety shows hey it’s a pay check be grateful
Talk about art imitating life. My brother graduated in 1981 and just a week away from graduating used a new shampoo on the market and did not realize that it was recalled. The shampoo turned his hair, believe it oh not, a sickly orange green. He came running out of the bathroom screaming. 😂😂😂😂. True story.
I feel like this was filmed as a 2 hour tv special but was edited down to 45 min. Also I like that they reference Gene Hackman in this since he was considered for the role of the dad but was turned down because he wasn’t a big enough name at the time.
My claim to fame as a kid growing up on brady reruns was that my dad happened to be at king’s island the day they were filming the amusement park episode
Wait a dang minnit! Where's Robbie Rist? Also honestly the real unrealized potential of the Bradyverse was the fact that the final season episode "Kelly's Kids" never got to become a spin-off series. AND ALSO yeah I just outed myself as a BB fan. I loved that show in all its corn-ball squeaky-clean glory.
Cousin Oliver, who has been wrongly blamed for ending the series, was slighted in this movie, which acts as if he never existed. In fact he had the last two lines of the last episode and therefore the last of the series.
It's almost hard to believe that they came back together for The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, The Bradys, The Brady Girls get Married, The Brady Brides, reprising their roles on The Love Boat, and A Very Brady Christmas...
I'm so torn on this, on one hand I see why Robert Reed wanted the show to be better...on the other hand, I kind of wish I could have told him to lighten up, the show was never supposed to be some award winning, critically acclaimed piece of art. It was just a silly sitcom...one of many. I just wish Robert Reed could have seen it for what it is and relaxed a little and enjoyed working on a show that would never be forgotten.
What I don't understand was what happened for Sherwood to ask Robert Reed back to do the Brady Bunch Variety Hour and also The Brady's and the Brady Brides and all the Brady specials after the show was cancelled? Robert hated it so much but wanted to continue on with new formats. That has perplexed me for years!
I've had the same thoughts....but, I think the Brady shows later were designed to be camp. And he knew it. What frustrated him was the original show wasn't supposed to be... At least that was my theory...
Squeaky clean kids who don't drink or smoke dope and have never had sex didn't accurately represent most families even in the 70s, much less a father who always has a shirt and tie. My dad usually didn't even have the shirt. But he was a respectable, honorable mam.
The the façade Brady Bunch home ws remodeled into a real version. Maureen McCormick and Florence Henderson's real daughter placed a tv used prop from the show in the parents bedroom and said an emotional goodbye to her.
Still wondering who at WB thought nobody would notice that 'DC' cut for the Two-disc DVD/BD restoration?? What idiots! It drove me crazy as well. I hate it! I gave away my Blu-ray disc and replaced it with the first BULLITT DVD release containing the original Charger smash. Though the video quality isn't as good, I'll take it over the 'DC' anytime. If they do a 4K they need to bring back the original Charger smash.
