Sue Dyer's book "The Trusted Leader: Use the Partnering Approach to Become the Trusted Leader People Want to Follow" is a fantastic read. The talk is great too, more like an Executive summary of the book. However, don't you find strange that those who are called leaders seem to struggle and feel confused about the whole concept of Leadership. It seems to me that many see it is as some kind of a trend and, in times of change, being something "new" is better than being seen as "old". Leadership is a completely different mindset from Management. John Maxwell's 5 levels of leadership would be a good starting point. Also Carol Dweck, Liz Wiseman, and so on. There is a diamond mine of great ideas in Sue's book and talk. So just a few thoughts of mine: a) The Trusted Leadership could also be called The Cascaded Leadership, as complexity is about layered structure that transforms Relevance via Sue's values to Flow. b) As the business world is moving away from "silos" to "Management systems" i.e. Project, Change, Risk, OHS, Process etc, each supported with its own Body of Knowledge (BOK), plus new industry of certifications ... confusion and conflict normally arise. Unfortunately, majority of "leaders" are putting "a cart in front of a horse". If we compare a leader to a Chef, the business system as in a) will be about how we make healthy meals, whilst b) would just be a storage room of ingredients i.e. use what is needed, when it is needed. c) Sue wrote in her book, Ch 5, page 75, "I personally LOVE business." To find your peace in the business world is to, firstly, recognize, then master the fact that businesses are about paradoxes. Just google for "11 Paradoxes of Management - from LEGO". And that is where Sue's Partnering approach shows its brilliance. In order to manage paradoxes, simply replace the construction business with the shipbuilding. In order to manage pardoxes is like is similar to sailing a ship taking into consideration everything that is moving. By the way, not every day is a storm. Sue said: "poor communication is a symptom of fear". In a way, leadership is like good journalism. If you find yourself - reacting - to what you read then it is not journalism, it is (bad) reporting (part of Management Mindset). True journalism and Leadership provide us with deep knowledge, which brings clarity and help us understand our interdependence so we can restore Trust. Thank you Susan for your gift of Sue Dyer!

Why do we think that the act of thinking has to be isolated, silent and invisible? When thoughts start to pop up in your mind write those thoughts on index cards so that your mind is satisfied that a thought is not lost. Our minds crave "finishing" things - which creates opportunities for both the "white space" plus satisfaction, so break tasks down at their natural break points, then do not switch tasks until you reach those points. In other words, do not "batch" your work. Everything you do is actually a cascaded yet aligned stack of processes with a different scope of concerns, which starts at the top then returns to the top. Each process layer in the workflow stack wraps itself around a more detailed level in a way that each layer does not feel overwhelmed and that is the main trick. So if a more detailed level feels distracted, for ex. something is missing or not ready, they should just return the challenge to a higher level or shift the challenge to an external client/stakeholder for resolution (T'ai Chi style of managing your personal balance and responsibilities). Put two large butcher size pieces of paper on the wall. On one sheet write issues and corrective actions, make those publicly visible. On the other piece of paper, create a weekly calendar, then place post-it notes of external decisions as they come, along with your initial thoughts. Later, when you get a phone call, just read the chain of events from the calendar on the wall. The other side will be impressed by your good memory whilst your mind will be clear and focused. Consider it your personal assistant. Every now and then check for any pattern. Carol Dweck's book on Fixed vs Growth mindset is worth understanding well. Has anybody noticed how the classical music feels much better when mixed, in a documentary, with the visual effects and beauty of nature. So write things down on index cards, empty your mind, then go for a walk, let blood circulate through your body and see if your thinking improves. Engage others, let them help you challenge your assumptions/biases/conditioning/issues. I am personally aware that after a good night sleep something will happen in my mind that acts both as a detachment and inspiration that brings more quality thoughts to the surface. Whenever I feel stuck I know that the following morning, or the morning after, it will cut through the clutter and dissolve an issue. As we grow we accumulate unsolved traumas in our bodies, that constrain us in some way. Whilst practising, whenever you hit an unknown pain point in your mind/body just gently massage "the muscle knot" and then continue to strengthen your whole body. Over the past few years I followed "a gold vein" of authors, starting with some great authors who would mention another author and another ... and over time I discovered the whole new world of quality ideas that exist in parallel with the mainstream thinking. Would you prefer an impersonal "body of knowledge" to reading some real whole-life stories presented by their own authors? Over time those stories/ideas will become your personal bank of resources. Listen to Marshall Rosenberg's talk on Non-violent communication, recognize that you do not know your needs, the system that educated you took that away from you, then fix that essential problem. Anything "urgent" is usually external to you, whilst anything "important" is internal to you. Get priorities i.e. which urgent is more urgent and your own priorities right. Do not solve problems, dissolve them. Let's wrap it up. Sometimes you think you are in a conflict situation with another person/idea. Instead, try to understand the meaning of deep thinking by getting a good grasp of the Iceberg model of change. Make what is invisible visible. My three core values for any workplace: Thriving, Sincerity and Psychological safety. I appreciate Juliet Funt's rich sense of quality humour in her book.

Appreciation of the piece, or the emotions that it brings about, is truly in the interpretation of the beholder. So, yes, it is about what emotion is evoked in you. And to your later point, I'll certainly explore the idea of a negative loop in the music that I tend to listen too. Good stuff Susan. Very thought provoking indeed.

If you are new to energy work, it can take some time to learn to do it well. You might ask yourself if there's some reason you are threatened by the possibility of this working for you. It could be you are subconsciously blocking yourself from achieving results. Certainly if you've made up your mind that you can't do it, it will be harder for you to do. It's not "bogus," it works for many people - it's just not working for you.

After I received the email about this video I decided to watch two TED talks by Dr Louise van Rhyn to get a feel for how it all started and what was her inspiration for the change. Simply an amazing way to transform the world! In one of her TED talks (2012) she said that she was relentlessly pursuing validation, significance, acceptance, had four (4) degrees and asked what was wrong with me? Dr Rhyn has been smiling throughout the talk: Who I am is enough. Truly great message and great talk!
