I enjoy contemporary music and music that aims to challenge - but truly, I cannot understand how this piece has any kind of credibility or recognition. it's so distinctly unenjoyable as a piece, there is little to gain in the mess.
From what my music teacher explained; Barry wanted to completely disobey the rules of music (Irish trad) by throwing any sort of sense and rhythm out of the equation. In part c alone each bar sees a change in timw signature. Or he uses 5/8 to completely burn any and all anchors of rhythm in this song.
This is pure shite and I have to study it for my Leaving Cert. I dunno how many times I'll have to listen to it but it will be that many times too many.
