Hey there, I really do need to make a part two or a redo of that video. It is very difficult to maintain 3 point contact while working on a ladder. Maybe part two will emphasize keeping your body and centre of gravity between the rails and overtop of the base with a preference to 3 point contact while moving or shifting. Cheers! --Kevin

To answer your question, I have been taking my company president's dream of a safety program and started developing it over the last 2 weeks. We did a restructuring last week and I was promoted to safety manager within the company. We are a 14 man carpet cleaning and damage restoration company. We are starting small with the plan and growing it to fit the business.

Good question, it is hard to say, it has to be in the moment I guess. Sometimes I will take them aside and ask why the less than irritating attitude? Then go from there, sometimes I may interject and say, what so and so has so eloquently put is that emergencies can happen in an instant and we need to be prepared hence the need to talk about fire exits. Like I said sometimes sarcasm, other times managing after the moment.
I decided to go with this profession because the idea of getting compensated for doing the right thing and doing things right just sounds right. Thanks for your big encouragement and teaching!
In the line of supervisor profession, ignorance is never a bliss indeed. No excuses are accepted since bill c-45. In this case, government really needs to set a clear definition of supervisor other than individual company’s job ads description using a specific terms such as hazard assessments or controls, etc. I went to check NOC 1211 - Supervisors, General Office and Administrative Support Clerks and didn’t find such in its job description. Maybe I got the wrong NOC code.

Very similar to what I mentioned in the video, unsafe being the presence of uncontrolled hazards and dangerous being not identifying or assessing the hazards but rushing headlong into peril. Cheers! --Kevin

It all comes down to attitude. I had many people laugh about telecommuting from home. It is a risk in some ways as there are no checks on fire extinguishers or property structure etc. Should your house burn down or property has to been deemed uninhabitable because of mold or structural defects then what? Insurance will take forever to compensate you. With a building, they carry insurance, and government inspected, however, it costs $$$ with gas and other expenses. Both have an advantage and disadvantage. People do not think about this or just laugh it off until something happens to them.
There are a lot of things that will kill a safety culture. I have here a list of the top 5 things a safety professional can do to tank their safety culture. Please let me know your thoughts.

Excellent broadcast. Now here's a question for you: what follow-up actions can you take when you have reported an employee's hazardous behaviour to management and the Health and Safety Committee, yet the behaviour is ignored.
Based on what am seeing, the ladder is not positioned properly, secondly, a better scaffold should be used . He will also be needing PPE such as helmet incase of fall.
Can I report unonimously to OHS the unsafe production speed of meat production plants that I worked in Canada? These speed wears down employees both physical and mental stress are unreported because they are not addressed due to being afraid of loosing job of employees. Companies should be often visited by Government like OHS. And even when visitors visits production the speed line slows down and speeds back up when they are gone. Thanks

Great information as usual Kevin. Here's an idea for a topic. Safety programs for companies that are nation wide. I work for a company that is headquartered in Vancouver with a safety manager based in Ontario. How does a company roll out items in that safety program that allows for jurisdictional legislation?
Safety culture, starting with senior management, to Safety department, to HoDs, to Supervisors, to Foremen, to the junior workers. Management has failed to notice importance of SMS, HSE Plan, and Policy Implementations.
