Back in 99’ I took a girl to see this and once he started rollerskating and this song came on, I forgot all about my date and started looking for it on my phone. Like what the name of it was etc and nothing. I even wrote the words down nothing. Went the next day to look for it and buy it but nobody at any record/cd store knew what I was singing. So I ended up having to buy the damn soundtrack for over 22 bucks for that 1 song. I miss the good ole days!😂😂
Ever since I was a kid, when I first saw this, there was always something so magical about this particular scene from the film. I don’t know if the music building, the sound of the chess pieces and the chess clock, or the angles from which it was shot, but it has that magic locked inside it.
Vinne's advice is terrible. NEVER play the man. Play the board, always. In chess, your opponent reveals her intentions via the moves she makes. It is not necessary to know what she prefers in fashion, her taste in men, or her strategy the last 100 games she played (although that can help under restrictive time controls). The board cannot lie to you and cannot intimidate you unless you allow it--in which case perhaps you should pick a different pursuit other than chess.

TRIVIA! In this scene, the REAL Josh Waitzkin is seated to Max Pomeranc's right in the park. He has a cameo in the film. He's the 16 yo kid in the black jacket and white hoodie playing chess next to Josh. ALSO! The REAL Katya Waitzkin, Josh's little sister, has a cameo as well. When they get to Chicago, she's the young girl with dark hair he plays in the first round. Joe Mantegna tells him "this girl's ranked 82nd, get through it quickly so we can rest before the next round." That little girl is Katya Waitzkin.
Decided to watch arguably my favorite cheesey 90's Rom/Com... "Blast From The Past" and this song still holds up for what was a solid soundtrack for the movie.
