I love the overhaul, cant wait to play it it would be cool to have blood splatter on the icons in the skill tree to give it that little extra pop and a a very subtle textured background for the menus just for extra little polish God Bless man
So, one thing we do in gamedev is to start with one of the middle levels (early middle if possible) This way all the learning you do while building them, will then translate into better early and late gameplay and levels.
this sounds like what i was just going thru and i summed it down to forgetting to have fun. having fun, releasing smth asap so others can enjoy ur hard work and provide constructive feedback so you know where to move forward and most of all, remember that it doesnt need to be perfect! its sad that we devs actually forget to have fun, like think about that for a moment, how the fk can we "forget" to have fun?? but none-the-less, we do. so, im taking a new approach going forward with my dev projects, 1) constantly reminding myself to have fun, 2) release smth asap for others to try out n provide feedback, and 3) reminding myself again that it doesnt have to be perfect! its easy to get stuck into the pitfall of it having to be "perfect"!! it does not. i wish u the best and remember bud.. have fun !! :)
I am actually thinking on developing a game myself fully alone like you. I have all the concepts written down, but man, I can imagine that the beginning is good but then it becomes that grindy desert. I am still hesitant to start, right now I am jobless, so I am a little bit nervous, but got some backup money to last for like 5 years. I am hesitating between grind coding to try to get a job or just start my game dev full time, which is a huge risk of course. Anyway, great video, and its great to see that others are not giving up and monving forward.
Please, PLEASE tell me you coded WASD as well as arrow keys.. I go insane when devs don't implement WASD movement and just code the arrow keys Also, wow - Hours of gameplay on a Demo? That's insane, props to you, my man
You know its crazy to me how ultra simple and code-focussed this method is that none of the other tutorials ever mention this is a valid approach. Still 4 years later.
This is so inspiring! What an amzing game your making!! I truly love everything of it, the music, the style, the energy you put in describing it. I wish i will one day be able to create something of this magnitude. Keep it up!! 🎉
The emotional weight is so real. It's not that you don't know whether you will make it to the finish line but it's the realization how much it takes to get there. I truly appreciate the insights you shared and the game looks absolutely amazing!
Hmm, OP isn't the only one to say this, I see this is becoming a mass trend, another youtuber who was doing a game like Driver games said similar things about leaving and distractions of RU-vid. I do understand these decisions but find it strange such voices appear in tandem amongst more people at the same time, or is it RU-vid algorithm recommending me this and is a raw coincidence.. I don't know more but I'm tired of internet, specially social media, forums, everyone acting smarter than another myself.
Watching this 2 years later... still in 2024 I would not buy an early access game that was more than 20 bucks without some absolutely stellar gameplay footage, or it being a tried-and-true studio... How can you complain your games not selling if your releasing an unfinished product... Game is free now, has a lot more reviews, people still complaining about unfinished parts two years later.
Yep, sums up my experience so far. I started my first game almost 3 years ago just to see if I could do it. Well, it's changed a LOT since then, and I've almost given up many times. But I'm still at it. I'm learning a lot as I go and it's fun, but I want a finished game soon. I just keep pluggin away even when I don't want to, or have any idea what I'm doing. (I'm looking at you google Play!)
"Welcome back" I just reached 100k! You will be there soon. It wont change your life but reminds you that you can make sh*t happen. Game dev hell was bad for me on Dwerve.
I thought that RU-vid did me the "favor" of unsubbing me without my consent. It's good to see you back at it again and with so much great progress to boot. Keep up the good work, mate. I can't wait for your game to be available. It's still sitting on my wishlist, waiting on you. No pressure. Lol!
Can I ask how long your game has taken vs how long you thought it would? I am over 4 years now and I thought only 18 months. That is taking it's toll on my mental wellbeing. Like you, I'm now doing every thing I can to push it live. All the best brother. Stay strong
