My limited experience with Blue Fin Tuna supports what you say. These fish are very boat shy. You can't get closer than 100 yards if your engine is running. We sometimes see them while fishing for albacore out of the Golden Gate. We have managed to hook 5 and land 3 over the past 20 years. Getting "spooled" is a heart break. The largest we landed was 115 pounds on basic albacore tackle with a 7 foot Ugly Stick and a 4-0 Penn Senator with 40 pound Ande mono filament. If you manage to get ahead of the crashing fish, shut off the engine, and wait while free lining a live sardine you can get lucky if the school comes towards the boat.
In all due respect, a lot of local fish, doesn't prove much, either way. And sport fisherman take so few, in comparison to commercial interests, that we are not much of an issue. It is the WORLD WIDE take that concerns everyone-and should. With that price tag on their heads, the worry is that, this much money is working against the bio mass, and this concern is backed up by hard facts I'm afraid.
This is the perfect example of the kind of videos on RU-vid that deserve to have ways to give double thumbs up!! If you did not like this video then you are not an animal or nature lover for sure.
Awesome video, thanks for posting this one. I make it a rule not to comment on any videos but had to say what a great watch this was and so well done. Even if you just uploaded the video I have to say thank you and if you actually made this then my hat is off to you sir. BRAVO......MORE MORE MORE
The idea is that it can confuse a predator, such as a fish, by coming close together, once forced to the surface its ideal conditions for a pack of billfish to eat them all! Hard to confuse a top predator like a billfish, they are perfect at what they do!
Excellent footage my man! Striped Marlin are pretty! They remind me of White Marlin and Roundscale Spearfish. The Stripped Marlin has always reminded me of both the white and a roundscale, yet 150-200lbs larger! I live in Ocean City, Maryland. Its known as "The White Marlin Capitol of the world". I have seen whites balling bait many times in my 20plus years of professional fishing. I always wanted to dive with them. Your very lucky to have such an experience. Thanks for the post.
