I'm Yael, a senior UX designer with over 4 years of experience designing beautiful products and apps users love to use. In this channel, you'll learn the basics of UX and product design as I go deep into the psychology behind apps we use daily. If that's something that interests you, don't be shy and hit that subscribe button (:
Their UI/UX is the main reason i prefer flipkart over amazon.. Firstly it's confusing plus it's really difficult to find what you actually looking for.. Amazon forces you to see the product they want you to see... Not the product you actually looking for.
I’m a little confused about recruiters accessing figma. Does the link open the prototype portfolio in a browser? Or do they need figma downloaded or to have a figma account to view it, and that’s why there’s a download option? And how do u know the viewer will see the page with the download pdf option? You’re the best
Hey! Yes Figma can open as a web browser as well, just make sure to set your file to “anyone with link can access” in your file settings. Not sure what’s the second question- 1- if you mean the landing page I mentioned at the end of the video, then you’ll have to host it on Wix/Square space/etc 2- if you mean navigating inside the Figma file, you do it with prototyping- and you can have your CV as a page in your prototype
OMFG how did I come across this? The headspace app is the worst designed product I’ve ever used in my entire life. What’s worse is that it’s good enough that most people don’t notice but it’s bad enough that using the app is a terrible experience and you’ll never want to use it again.
Luckily for me, just word to mouth really worked well for me. I had a profile on a few sites but I can’t remember the names and I didn’t get any clients from there 🤔 Facebook groups might be a good place for that tho
So I didn’t learn how to use html and css, BUT I did learn how to build websites using Webflow. What I offered my clients was the full package where I designed in Figma and then built it in Webflow
Nice one showing how even big companies can make mistakes. But your messaging comes off quite wrong. Everyone makes mistakes, thats where feedback helps. Granted its tough with big orgs like Google, but instead of saying that someone is bad because of an issue, you could have addressed it differently and made it more educational on how big orgs can also make mistake and what we can learn from it. Just my thoughts. Great work on reaching 1.5k though, keep on keeping up!
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback, my videos are very critical towards apps and UX, because this is the nature of how I interact with products (major frustrations lol) Undoubtedly I made tons of mistakes in my designs. We grow and learn and no one’s perfect
For my first portfolio- yes, exactly that. When a designer just start their journey they don’t have any real practical experience, so they need to create conceptual fake projects to somehow demonstrate their design skills. That was my first portfolio. As I got experience I replaced those “fake” projects with real ones.
Hi Yaeli, I absolutely loved your video! It's so refreshing to see someone talk about UX in a practical, hands-on way rather than using "theory" language. You really showed how to do UX, and it was incredibly helpful. I do have one question, though, and I’d really appreciate it if you could answer: where did you find those statistics on your competitors? For example, the Hinge data you mentioned-"44% of daters, 72% more likely," etc. It would mean a lot if you could share this info! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much! I definitely wanna show hands on designing cause that’s the best way to learn imo. As for the stats- I actually Googled “Hinge research/ Hinge statistics” etc There are many companies that publish their testing results and statistics, so always try to search the company name + research/data/statistics
I personally like Hinge and its overall ui/ux in together. Also, tinder is overrated. I said it out loud. But this is a crazy idea and I can't wait for the next videos. Jon, let's build this app!
Please, Jon, let's build this app :) Edit: BTW, I don't love the "24 hrs" feature like in Bumble, specially I know I know, girls should be the ones to decide when to talk... but at the same time, why girls? That seems a bit feminist... I met a bunch of girls in Tinder in the past, but I Never Ever met or talked to anyone on Bumble, I guess because of this... I even met the love of my life in Tinder.... yeaaah, we are not together anymore, but we were together for 3 years after meeting on Tinder.... eventhough I met many girls the 'normal' way before. Tinder at least gives you chance to "start a conversation", you can't in Bumble, you just have to wait? That's why I used it like 3 times, and closed it. Also 24 hours is too little because when I used to use these apps, I never used them everyday... but like twice a week That's why maybe Bumble never worked for me, but Tinder did many times... I still even have female friends I met from Tinder, not a single one from Bumble
Hm, I think I'd prefer to see more than just one photo. It's not even about the looks, but photos also give me a better feel of someone's vibe, sometimes also show their interests and reveal a hint of their personality ;). Anyway, Jon, let's build this app :D I'm not single, but I went through this stage of finding someone to match me, so I know the pain 😂
I’m glad you’ve found your one! Was it via dating apps? 👀 I’m really on the fence about the photos thing you know.. on one hand, they want people to form a real connection (kind of like “love is blind”) But on the other hand, I completely understand people want to “see” the vibe and energy (I’m like that too) My biggest concern is to not make it all based on looks because I don’t think it’s currently working on dating apps 🤷🏻♀️
I really like the idea but I would not limit it to only one photo at the beginning. Because for me personally, it is not only about looks as such. But after my experience with dating apps (I am dating men), though men do not use make-up etc. when they had only one picture or two it sometimes portrays like a totally different person because of the angle of the picture and lightning and so on. And then you only see one picture, the brain fills in the gaps... and then you see the person in real life and it is a disappointment just because you imagined them differently. I personally had the best experiences and dates with people who had a lot of pictures so you really can see a 360 of a person, and if it comes to finding a romantic partner, looks should not be the most important but looks are also important, because you have to be attracted to somebody. - And thank you for all the advice you give! Love your channel! ❤
Yeah good point! Im always on the fence about it, since we became so superficial on dating apps 🫤 That’s my only drawback What if it’s like “love is blind” and we let people fall in love without the looks? That was my main idea, so I thought a 1 pic idea could be a good compromise Maybe 2 photos to start with? Will that work?
@@ItsUXgirl Yes, absolutely understandable. Because looks are really not the most important but on the platform we do not get the mimic etc. of a person.- Maybe then no photo at all would be better. Either a lot of pics or no picture at all :-) It is super complicated with those apps. But the problem was always for me, if I saw only one picture I imagined the rest, I think the brain does it automatically. And then in reality it is always different. So maybe then it could be a try to let people see the main data, like age etc and have a chat but no picture at all.
Gongrats, your advices area really at the point. And I love how you talk about your process. Really impressed by your decision to take the challenge of life and get stronger and proud of yourself.
I am also interest to making dating apps design. recently i am practicing. i have many problem statement for dating Apps but can't get solution. Can i contact with you to discussion about it? can i get what's apps contact?
Girl! Your energy is amazing, I’m watching with a smile! You actually gave me a motivation to believe that I am able to find my dream job! Thank you! And your work is perfect! ❤
I am so glad that I live in a Country where Amazon still is not properly established. We have other, direct competitors who do this way better. I am so used to modern design and de-clutter approach from local websites/online stores so whenever I go to Amazon for some special book, I need to check multiple time it's the legit thing and not some scam.
Interesting! Where do you live? 👀 I’m with you on the scamming part, I watched a video describing how drop shipping is ruining Amazon and I definitely agree with that
I absolutely love this video. I literally permanently pinned your video tab on my browser. I have been in bit of a UI design rut. I really liked your tips and it triggered something in my thought process. Hopefully I will end up making a good portfolio. Will definitely keep visiting this video for inspiration and motivation.
I’m so flattered! And if your first version won’t be a good enough portfolio, just improve it and iterate again and again and again until you’re happy with the result 🫶🏼 you got this!
You mentioned you were a graphic designer, I studied and graduated with a bachelor's in Graphic Design, but I have been a Digital Arts Teachers at a High School for the past 9 years, I'm looking into a career change, would you say that going to a BootCamp to study UI UX is necessary, or is it possible for me to just try to freelance in the UI UX area to build a portfolio? Bootcamp cost about 12k, so I'm debating if it's something I should do, or just try to use my design skills to move from there.
It’s a hard question to answer, but maybe you can start with free courses/RU-vid content and try to start working in it- see if it works, see if you’re actually interested in it. And then if you feel like it’s really something you wanna commit to- take that course and invest in yourself and in your career I can definitely say my Textile Design studies in university helped me get to where I am in terms of design basics
It would be interesting for a dating app to be able prove your authenticy of like your age face with machine learning and tech. Now with face detectors this could be achieved I believe.Because most of the time us girls get into trouble when finding love if encountered by a cat fish or old creep. 😅 Some consider it as a playground for new catches of lonely girls and even guys.
Hi, when you were freelancing, how did you implement website designs? Did you provide only the design (and the client had a developer to code)? Did you have a friend to do it or did you do it yourself?
Hey It depends, for websites I used Webflow and built everything myself. For products (or very complex websites) the clients usually had their own developers. I will say, however, that I recommend having good freelance developers and designers in your contacts, that you can collaborate with from time to time
You've got all these beautiful graphics that show stuff on phones and on screens and stuff, like for your S'wear project in red and white. How did you create those mockups? Is it with a program? Thank you so much for your helpful video! Subscribed and I'll look through your other videos later. Thank you. I'm designing my first portfolio after being a solopreneur for physical not technical products and I have so much analysis paralysis and regret that I never really kept records of websites and products or anything that I created. I just designed stuff, had it made, marketed it and sold it. Now I'm looking to work for a company and I wish I had kept better records. All you young folks out there have everything so beautifully displayed to market yourself and your creations. I'm trying my best but I'm just overwhelmed. Anyhow, thank you and keep going with the great content!
I feel you! At first I didn’t save any of my deliverables and had to recreate everything for the portfolio but you live and learn haha 🫠 For mockups I always search on Google tbh, but now there are AMAZING mockup plugins for Figma! I haven’t played with any of these plugins yet, but will have an episode dedicated to it on my “building a portfolio” series so be sure to follow along 🥰🫶🏼
Hi Yaeli! I came across your channel last week as I was building my digital marketing portfolio for the first time. I know your channel is "small" (not really), and we're so used to huge channels, huge social media profiles and so on, that sometimes profiles like yours may go unnoticed. However, this is such a big mistake we make as social media users. I cannot express with words my gratitude for your fantastic work and superb RU-vid channel which is so high-quality, so informative, so useful, and just... for all of that dedication that goes into it! I was so lost before finding this channel and now I can really start feeling confident about my portfolio. I can't wait for each new video that comes up tbh. I'm sure that starting a channel on YT can be overwhelming and feel like "Is it even worth it?" sometimes. So... I just couldn't go away without commenting to say: this is gold. Thank you so so much. Sending you lots of love, from Spain 🇪🇸❤.
Damn… you just made my day! 🫠🥹 I’m so so grateful to be able to talk my shit and reach people and help them. This experience is really really special for me, I enjoy RU-vid so much and I might be small but I’m mighty haha 🫶🏼
great insight for those looking for their entry level positions. Great value 🙂 i will say tho, it can be risky to personalize your (by your i mean whoever is reading this, not the videocreator herself) portfolio too much. i did so with my first portfolio and i got lots of leads from a lot of headhunters etc but they all said the same thing: ”unpersonalize” it and make it valuable. It is sad to say, but most companies wont choose a portfolio based on it, but they most definetly can turn one away because of it. Showcase your personality in the interview, thats what its for ..to see if you are a fit with the company 👍 This is not meant as criticism, just friendly advice to keep in mind 👍
Thanks! I think it depends on many factors, and I can’t really say since I haven’t saw your portfolio. Maybe it was a bit too personal? From the top examples that I’ve seen, having that personal touch to see your personality adds a lot of value, but I agree that it has to be balanced
