Thank you! It is indeed beautiful. I had the privilage of sailing through the Sound of Harris the other day. It was great to see so many of these places from a different angle!
I had plans to use my DJI Mini Mavik 3 to shoot the Callanish Standing Stones near the summer solstice in 2023. I was going by the book and had plans to apply for UK flying license and was told I had to prove I had 5 million pounds liability insurance by the organization overseeing the complex. I thought that was ridiculous as my Mini Mavik was so fragile, it would be demolished berfore adding a scratch to the rocks plus it has collision avoidance anyway. My Scottish guide mentioned that on the whole, Scots hate drones and if they have a gun, they will shoot it down. Even though it was 4am, there were three people hanging around so could not not rightfully fly over them.( US rules). In the end, I decided to leave my drone home. You lucked out.
The insurance I have covers up to 5m, and it costs about £100/year. That might be a bit much for someone here on holiday, but it's very reasonable for someone who flies regularly. I think I managed to get my footage just before drones became cheeper, and a lot more accessible. But it's true that some people have a problem with drones, especially around the big landmarks. I'd say it's more of a privacy thing. I very much doubt anyone would shoot a drone out of the sky here! There's so few guns in the first place, and anyone who's taken the time to jump through the hoops of gun ownership will know it's a serious criminal offence to discharge a firearm at an aircraft.
My plan was to use the drone only one time, so the insurance was not cost effective. My guide who hails from Edinburgh served in the military so it may explain his more aggressive tone on shooting drones down. Thanks for responding.
Thats crazy stuff! In 2003, I worked the game section, at a Fry's Electronics, I was a huge flight/space sim guy at the time. I kept seeing the box for eve on-line, was often reading it, flipping it over, checking out the specs. In my head I kept thinking..." It looks cool. It sounds cool... I want to, But, I just don't think there is as much to do in the game, as they say there is." And I forget about the game. 2010: Girlfriends brother, is a hard core eve player. He explains EVE to me. Yet every time I saw him, he was always docked in station. I thought the game was BORING,. because...he just sat in station, only showing me ships. One day I asked... Is that all the game is, just building/buying ships? You can't like...fly the ship? Is this just a graphical version/rip off of Trade Wars!? No, you can fly...I just can't right now he was in one of those huge alliances, and his corps station had reds parked all over it for weeks, waiting for them to undock. :D (But I thought he was lying, and that there was not a shred of proof, that there was any flying..."yeah, he's full of shit, it's just hardware wars...with spreadsheets, and some static graphics" I forget about the game... 2015:..... I see an ad for EVE Online... "Wait.... That's EVE?..... YOU CAN FLY?" I download it. Play it. Holy shit! I didn't know much about the lore, until 2018. Started checking it out. I wished I had picked up the game in 2003. After hearing how much lore, was already in the game, from back then, and seeing this video today. Long story, but I love seeing these rare moments from the beginning!
I'm glad you finally joined us! I still play, 19 years on. You can't quite ever stop playing Eve. I always find myself logging back in. Who knows, even though you joined in 2018, that may still be considered "the early days" in years to come! o7 capsuleer!
Hey! I'm a musician and I'm working on a new tune. I'd love to use some of this in the background of a section for about 20 seconds. Would that be okay?
Hello! Sure thing. It'd be great to see your film when it's done too :) Here's a link to a higher quality version. drive.google.com/file/d/0BwACoq8KNAg4aGFTNUszWFNrMmc/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-zibAYu_yDTd81Usfo5sz8g
Beautiful short film introducing me to the Outer Hebrides! I'm hoping to cycle and open water swim there next year - and I can show off where I'm headed with this well crafted film. Thanks!
Hey man, lovely video. I am making a video on full celtic history, would it be ok if i use just few clips to show how hebrides look to better show the history of celts and vikings . I would give attribution ofc! Anyways cheers and tx for a lovely video
An absolutely beautiful production, and the music is so spot on! Thanks for sharing, I love that part of the world and am just back from there (video on my channel) Keep up the excellent work!
Amazing captures, super video and beautiful landscape! We would love your comments and subscription in our channel also if you like aerial videos. Sub 87 and like from us👍🏼👍🏼
Loved this! Especially the wee Cal-Mac coming in with hyperlapse - that bit made me chuckle. I'd love to see the feature for this trailer - not many drone movies you could say that about! Used to spend some summers on Lewis as a boy. Beautiful places.
Following from Scottish drone group Dude I love your channel already Subbed and new follower Will be walking the whole UK coastline with my drone soon!
Thanks Ryan! I pretty much always use waypoints for hyperlapses. I can't think of a situation where I'd fly manually for one. Waypoints are just so much more accurate, repeatable and tweakable. Some of those hyperlapses took like, 30 minutes to shoot. There's no way my chubby fingers can hold a smooth course for that length of time :D
3. Nice job! If you have a few minutes to spare you should consider uploading your video to the AirVuz drone video sharing site - it’s the world’s largest site specifically for drone videos. We have a curated collection of drone videos from Scotland and we would love to be able to feature this video in the collection if you wouldn’t mind uploading it. If you have any trouble finding it or can’t find the URL for the site just let me know via reply. Cheers!
That was awesome man. Really liked some of the more moody shots. Did you go out to any of the Bishop Isles at all from Barra? It's worth a trip. Francis the boatman in Castlebay runs day trips. The sea cliffs and bird life are absolutely immense.
I pretty much stuck to the inhabited islands, with the exception of Vallay. I do want to visit some of the smaller islands. Some of them have amazing history. St Kilda though. That's the next biggy. No drone though :(
