Such a moving and sad song, and so well written and performed. It tears in my heart everytime I listen to it... Someone said once, this should have been Scotland's national anthem..
I've never seen a video with visuals so good they complement The Seekers music and voices -- this is outstanding and a visual joy to match the music. To echo @samcash6131, this is music video at its very, very best.
God the father sends his love. By way of “Gradian Angels” from above. To watch over us and to keep us from harm. They are without a doubt his strong right arm.
🎸 When Mark'n guitar....🎸 🎶 are no more here, 💃 Anywhere he hide, I go. 🎺 'cause I can't live even a day 🎵 With his music far away. 🎼 Homenagem a meu amado Mark. ❤🇧🇷
THIS MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG HAS A VERY SPECIAL AND DEEP MEANING IN MY HEART. I AM NOT A PIPER, BUT I HAVE COME TO LOVE THE PIPES THROUGH A VERY SPECIAL MARINE IN MY LIFE THAT IS A PIPER AND WILL BE TO THE END. MY MARINE FELL IN LOVE WITH SCOTLAND THE VERY SECOND HE PLACED HIS FEET ON ITS SOIL AS A MARINE. HE AUTHORED AND PUBLISHED A MOST UNIQUE AND BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN BOOK ABOUT SCOTLAND. WE BOTH HAVE ANCESTORS FROM SCOTLAND. I KNOW THAT THIS SONG WILL BE PLAYED WHENEVER TIM'S TIME ON THIS EARTH IS DONE. BUT HE STILL HAS A LOT OF LIFE TO LIVE AND MANY MORE TRIPS TO SCOTLAND FROM THE STATES...SO, KEEP PIPING, TIM, AND LOVING TO PLAY AT THE GIGS YOU PLAY AT. YOU ARE TRULY A PIPER TO THE END. YOUR BONNIE HEILAND LASSIE, ALWAYS~~

Lyrics: When I leave this world behind me To another, I will go And if there are no pipes in heaven I'll be going down below If friends in time be severed Someday we will meet again I'll return to leave you never Be a piper to the end This has been a day to die for Now the day is almost done Up above, a quiet seabird Turns to face the setting sun Now the evening dove is calling And all the hills are burning red And before the night comes falling Clouds are lined with golden thread We watched the fires together Shared our quarters for a while Walked the dusty roads together Came so many miles This has been a day to die on Now the day is almost done Here the pipes will lay beside me Silent with the battle drum If friends in time be severed Someday here we will meet again I'll return to leave you never Be a piper to the end
Mark Knopfler wrote this song as a tribute to his uncle, Freddie Laidler who was his mother’s brother. Freddie Laidler was a piper with the Tyneside division of the Blackwatch Regiment. He died I action in the north of France in 1940. He was just 20 years old.
