Kris and I are making the big step and moving to Ecuador on Jan 5 2023. We sold our house and are moving to the coast. After a few exploratory trips and a ton of research, not only did Ecuador meet all the important practical criteria for us, but we can call it home. Ecuador has something for everyone but for us, the incredible diversity in nature, the very friendly welcoming people and a climate for almost anyone are what settled it for us. Goodbye Winter! We decided to start a RU-vid channel to document our journey for ourselves, our family and our friends and maybe give some others the courage to move from their comfort zone and enjoy this incredible world. We hope you subscribe to our channel and join us on our journey. If we are fortunate enough to be able to monetize this channel, 100% will be donated to Ecuadorian charities. Life the Life you Love!!
Hi guys, I love your videos. You have a great vibe! I was watching a video about the program on the coast that helps educate locals on business and helping them. Can you give me the link to the video or the organization that you featured with two other ladies? Thanks so much -
We are in 10 hours a day of blackouts - split between two five hours. People are beginning to talk about protests.I don’t know what that will solve but these blackouts are, as you point out, partially result of political corruption. We are still required to pay our entire electric bills even though we were promised to be reimbursed for the last blackouts, which we were not. I have lived here a year and have experienced blackouts for a large part of my life here. People who have been here a long time may be able to handle it better but for me, it’s been trying but I am trying.
Yes well, not always a great service. I tried ordering multiple things that is shown could not be sent to Ecuador. Strangely, one of the items was a harness for my dog, but the retractable leash was fine. Here is the list: The following items in your cart are no longer available and have been moved to Saved Items section of your Shopping Cart: PoyPet No Pull Dog Harness, No Choke Front Clip Dog Reflective Harness Organic India Amalaki Herbal Vitamin Supplement - - 90 Capsules Ceva Derma-3 Softgels, Omega-3 Fatty Acid & Vitamin Supplement for Small Dogs & Cats (60 Count) Jello Sugar Free Pudding Mix Instant - When I switch it to a US address (my mule), suddenly everything is available again.
Unfortunately Still in 2024 Crime and Security is a Mayor Concern in Ecuador...The Gov is Fighting Back Really Hard But Still is a Serious Problem...I Bought a Nice Property in Salinas and Love That City and I Love Ecuador and The People ...Hope This Situation Get Better Soon...Cause I Dont Want To Live Ecuador ...I Know many Exp that Had Take That Decisition already ...But Still I Trust that Soon The Gov and The People in Ecuador fix This Problem for Good...❤❤❤
Gracias por visitar nuestro país los ecuatorianos nos encanta cuando las personas que vienen de otros países vienen a poner su ejemplo de que hacer el resto de nuestras vidas adultas saludos ❤
Thanks 👍. Goto our channel and a few of our first videos talk in detail about why we choose Ecuador. The reasons are still valid for us. We did use a lawyer to get our temporary Visa.
There is no such thing as a water shortage. There is a people overage. Stop having babies. We also have desalination technology. Electricity cuts are due to bad management, period. Data proves that almost 90% of all forest fires are caused by humans. In 1850 the population of Ecuador was half a million people. Today it's 18 million. That's a 3500% increase in just 174 years. You see the problem now? But keep shrieking about the climate.
@@KrisandMike What part of my post can be characterized as disrespectful? Why are you making the assumption that people who challenge these narratives would be disrespectful? Ironically I endure replies that engage in vitriolic personal attacks on a regular basis from people who hate being challenged. I welcome any challenge to the statements I've made.
Your last line. "But keep shrieking about the climate". Regardless not here to debate people. Not the purpose nor do I get enjoyment debating fringe opinions. Let's leave it at that. You can certainly start your own channel and say whatever you want. Take care.
@@KrisandMike Ah, noted. When I started challenging the climate "crisis" narrative 20 years ago, I was certainly on the "fringe". No longer. There are numerous and growing amounts of scientists, physicists, biologists, geologists, historians, anthropologists, economists and energy experts challenging this narrative. We've experienced some warming but there is no evidence of a crisis. Most of the "crisis" rhetoric stems from the "climate movement" an activist driven movement that embellishes and misrepresents the actual science. Cheers.
@@KrisandMike I got an email from DHL today. I'm not sure what it means. It seems like they want me to pick up my package in GYE? How did it go for you?
You should not have to pickup. DHL does send confusing messages. Yours is ahead of mine. I have 3. 2 with skypostal and 1 with DHL. DHL has always passed it onto Servientrega or another carrier for local delivery.
Kris and Mike, Thank you for this informative video and all the others you've made! My fiancée (from Canada) and I (from New York State) will be visiting Olon this February. We are looking forward to the trip but I just can't seem to completely appreciate whether flying into Guayaquil and spending a night there will be safe, and overall, a good experience. We need to spend a night in Guayaquil before making our way to Olon since our flight wont arrive until around midnight. Can you offer any first-hand information about safety/security around the Guayaquil airport/lodging for one night? Thank you much! Russ
There are a few hotels right beside the airport. Under a 5 minute taxi ride. You will have no issues. maps.app.goo.gl/AZghFTerxZrf175XA Holiday inn Guayaquil airport is excellent. You will be comfortable. We and family have done this many times.
Ok, so yesterday we had a 3 hour power outage from 10 - 1 pm. Today, Monday 9/23, we had a power outage from 10:15 am to 3:15 pm. This information was not made available by Cuenca High Life or any other format so that we could be prepared. I'm not sure where you are getting your information from, but there has been no power outages at night, as was proposed in the past. Lots of people in the government giving different times, and then, now, we get nothing. I am not on Facebook. Is there some reliable place to get information at least 12 hours before the outage hits?
Yes the major hydro electric plant was shut down as an emergency measure as it is dry. 3 plants actually. So all the overnight outages have changed to daily an d overnight in many cases. There is a schedule for each particular area now and it changes a lot. If you don't have Facebook then go to the website of your local energy provider and have translate on. Good luck 🤞
Hello from Peru. Best thing to do is having water reservoir, the higher the number of liters the better. PROMART a peruvian company now working in Ecuador ( Guayaquil and building a 2° hardware store in Quito ) has huge water tank for saving 2,500 liters. They have 3 layer of plastic, external UV + thermic layer + internal anti-bacteria. My data says that about 1000 liters is good enough for 1 person during 1 week used for regular consume as washing dishes, washing clothing, washing ourselves, etc.
You're right, we're pretty much pooched when the power goes in winter. I think your suggestions are really good ideas. We keep a few extra gallons of water on hand at all times, and in terms of heat we have a gas fireplace that can run without electricity. We've had many smokey days from all the fires and record heat. You sound a lot calmer than I feel about climate change, which seems to be on a path of super acceleration. Cheers from Canada and take care.
Again, great information. You've given me several ideas on things to bring for my particular needs. I teach via Zoom, and use a c-pap. Will look into the mini solar panels and battery banks. I have a generator--kind of a necessity here in Florida. Can you buy portable generators in Ecuador? Enough to power a fridge and a/c unit, for example?
The sad part is harnessing free energy from the ether has been around since Tesla, the Chicago fair in the early 1900’s was from free energy. It exist but it’s hidden from the general public ..
I lived in Manta last year. When the rolling blackouts were happening. I'm now in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and life is too short to live in that dump of a country called Ecuador. Get out now while you can. There are so many other nice places in South America. I went to Lima after Manta, and then I went to Medellin before Buenos Aires. I would never go back to Ecuador. Nothing is worth it there. I lived in Manta for 6 months, Lima for 4, and Medellin two times. The first time was 8 months, and the last time was 3 months. Now it's been 3 months in Buenos Aires, so I have time on the ground and know what living in these places is like. It's only going to get worse in Ecuador.
I appreciate the great research! We are on the coast, it's dry here but pretty typical so far. I am definitely considering a solar system but our generator works great. Get 8nhours per tank of gas.
Interesting News!! So, if moving to Equador, you might need to bring a few solar panels with You!! I am surprised they don't invest in Wind energy, as the Coast seems to always be windy. Also solar panels installed on new construction would be a great help to all! Thanks for the report....praying for rain for You all!!
I wonder why more emphasis hasn't been given to solar power? Due to its single digit latitudes, Ecuador seems like an excellent candidate to harness the sun's energy. Panel efficiencies and batteries are considerably more efficient and safer than the best technology available to us just a few years ago. Furthermore, I have yet to see any credible evidence that humans have had a significant impact on global weather patterns. I still attribute much of the extreme weather phenomena we're seeing to the grand solar minimum.
Thank you so much for this week's news Mike!! How much of this would you think is human made? I cannot help but thinking of large western companies, NGO's and the likes, who would clearly like everything destroyed, in order for themto come later with their big fake smiles, offering their so-called "help" 😢 Stay safe both of you and, thanks again. I love your news... Not much reliable news from anywhere else these days....hence, thanks for being there... 🌹👍🌹
Thanks. There is overwhelming evidence from around the world that have convinced the vast majority of scientists that these extreme events are becoming more severe, more often and man-made. I am no expert but I listen to the experts in a critical thinking way. Cheers.
@@KrisandMikeThanks Mike and yes, we agree. We can hope, we soon (very soon) come to a turning point as, they are becoming so completely insane, the people (all of us) on our planet, have to stop them - once and forever!! Take care and, have a lovely week!!!
How lnog do you think it would take to have a permanent geothermal energy system in place there and are there currently even funds available? That sounds like a much better long term solution than the unreliable hydroelectric sources.
Climate change really is becoming an issue but until every country makes changes it’s going to keep progressing. Makes me scared to think about what my grandchildren will face in years to come. We as humans are destroying our planet, polluting the ground, burning holes in the ozone layer, polluting the oceans etc. I hope the rain heads to South America very soon. Best wishes to you and Kris through these times.
Yeah, I have a couple deliveries coming, have not ordered much since coming here. But now I have a few needs that are RIDICULOUSLY expensive here or are just bad quality. I found that I can avoid some of the import fees by buying a single item on a single order (weight). Let's see how the delivery goes!
The best part of this video, besides the useful information, it's the fact you're wearing the T-shirt of the best and most loved soccer team of Ecuador. Go Barcelona!
