The part where she said that her daughter felt like she was forced to eat even when she didn’t want to eat all of her food really hit home. Being diabetic myself I know how horrible it feels when I have to eat or drink something that I don’t want to eat because I am low 😢
In summary, any T1 above 7 A1C should give Afrezza a try. And 50% of them would prefer that method of treatment vs pump per the study of 50% wanting to stay on. So 75% of T1 aren’t below 7. So afrezza should theoretically have (75% x 50%) = 37% of type 1 insulin market. Cost down also without cost of pump
I am on a GLP-1 and have started with Afrezza this summer. I have found that because of the slower release of food from my stomach, I can wait to take my insulin until after I eat. In fact, I usually wait until I see that diagonal up arrow on my meter before I dose (often an hour after eating). Afrezza hits the food hard and puts it away! I'm staying in range, and I'm not getting bruised and bumped by MDI! It's wonderful! Thank you Mannkind!!
At my son's recent 12 month appointment (12 mon5hs from diagnosis) our DE made out that I was an over anxious parent and told me that highs over 15 for hours are "just diabetes". He was upset with me for 'over correcting and insulin stacking'. I'm so glad to have this podcast, it's been awesome because we are pretty much stuck with outdated advice otherwise. The DE has also left us on our initial sliding scale MDI doses and won't progress us 🤦♀️
I can't wait to hear some user experiences about the upgraded Bluetooth on the G7! And Dex direct to watch?! Waiting sooo long...sounds like this summer for sure.
Yep. This entire class of medications SHOULD absolutely be approved & allowed for use in T1DMs. There is a quiet underbelly of Doctors, Endocrine NP’s and other Endo professionals who see the power of these meds used in T1DM treatment. There are several of us already using these meds in their DM1 care - and I am one of them, and I have never felt better. I have been T1DM for 43 years and have had awesome control since being put on Wegovy (a GLP-1 just like Mounjaro) there are also SGLT-2’s that have been working for T1DMs as well. However, there are challenges attaining these meds due primarily to the lack of research being done on DM1’s with these meds which is both tragic and sad (although FINALLY there are studies coming out to help support this) What mystifies me is that when these large drug companies do research and find benefit for T2DM’s - why would it not be immediately researched (and approved for use) in treatment for the right T1DMs (as it is not appropriate for use in certain patients - we know this). What happens then in practice is a triclke-down effect of the insurance companies not allowing DM1’s to not be “approved” to use it (unless you go and “bare it all” in front of them to prove how well this medication works for you - particularly if you are on a fully insured rather than a self-funded insurance plan). With these wonder meds, it boils down to cost - and thus limits the treatment options and access for Thousands who could benefit from the positive effect the medications could and do allow us T1DM’s to have. I hope that doen the road we will find that the studies show what myself and a small group that I know (who are slowly gaining in number) begin shining light to guide the drug companies and insurance companies to see the positive light these meds ABSOLUTELY can have on our lives. Have an amazing day!
Is there an episode that breaks down the molecular, physiology of how long lasting basal insulin works and any potential long term consequences on the body not a result of diabetes & blood sugars, ie the long lasting insulin tech itself?
Great episode. I live in the Tampa Bay area and would like be involved with the group that Denver mentioned she wants to form even though I did not attend the conference. I am happy to share my contact information with her if she is open to having me in the group. I was diagnosed as a T1D in July of 2020 at age 61 in the middle of the pandemic. No one in my family has type 1. Thank you for your consideration. Linda
Scott...trust the process. The journey you're on is still unfolding. Let it come to you...what You are doing and have done is extraordinary! Find the joy and the money will cone.
Hi I'm 3 years into this type 1 journey after having been misdiagnosed as type 2. Went into severe DKA and after a week in ICU got the type 1 diagnosis. I have just discovered your podcast and have learnt so much. I am in Australia and just want to thank you and encourage you so much. Deb
It’s hard. When you’ve been with this for a long time (40 years here) you get comfortable in certain places. Some people don’t have the support, the resources, Diabetes must be priority but high blood glucose causes depression, mood swings, sometimes priority changes, you have to work to make money, or family issues. And when you talk about change, it’s a huge deal. Isolation makes it harder. May God bless you as a caretaker of your daughter, most of us go thru this alone. It is great to talk about it! Your podcast gives us strength knowing that there are so many of us! And there are so many things we can learn to make it better. CGM’s and pumps make this so much easier. Myself, type 1 for 40 years, last year mi HBA1C was 9, Jan this year 8, last week down to 6.3 and I am so proud. Thank you for all you’ve done!
I heard my mom watching one of ur podcasts over the summer while I was going to Diabetes Camp and I honesty forgot abt you guys for a bit. I've known Maeve since we were 4.
