New video every other Sunday. I often paint in the style of an artist and show their artwork and why I find it interesting to look at. I show you how I make my own art in their style and what I use as an inspiration, often simple things I see in every day life.
Everybody can learn how to paint! The first action is to lower the bar. Forget about perfect, forget about the image in your head. Just start making Imperfact Paintings, have fun and pay close attention to what happens on the canvas or paper you paint on. Paint, observe, enjoy, learn and improve.
Take up your brush and join us on our journey. Love to hear from you in the comments.
7:23. Okay this gives me an idea. I have some spare pieces of cardboard in my basement and I've been trying to figure out what to do with them but that picture got me thinking.
The funny thing is how bad these attempts are compared to real Pollocks. That isn’t to say it can’t be done - I’ve seen a few good ones, including one by a 12 year old. But I do think it takes a certain understanding of space and movement. The colors used here are not right, the paint doesn’t flow the same, etc. but I appreciate the efforts. We can’t all be Jackson Pollock I guess.
Thanks, Brushcl. In my opinion it's never about making a Pollock copy. So any painting is okay by me. By trying to paint in his style, you can encounter all sort of things, often the points you mention.Trying to paint in his style is the perfect way, again in my opinion, to silence people who say 'my cat, or my six-year old, can do this'. Because it isn't as easy as it looks. But by trying, investing time and making the effort, and even when not getting there, can make you look differently at art. Comparing your version with a Pollock makes you study his artwork in a different way and perhaps appreciate it even more. And the joy of trying is always a bonus. Enjoy your day, Albert
Thanks! Your videos are the best. Since I started following you a few years ago, your subscribership has doubled. I'm happy to see your viewership grow! You were very helpful to me when I was first getting started. You kindly took time to respond to my comments and questions and gave me helpful tips about running my art youtube channel, which was just starting at the time. I'm happy to know you're out there doing what you're doing. You are one of the best art channels out there. Thank you so much! ~Lacey
Thanks a million, Lacey. I really appreciate it. I love to hear how I could be of help. I see on your channel how you pass on your gift in a similar way, and especially for kids. Help kids and you help the future to be creative, also in their thinking for other challenges. I will check out your channel next week, it has grown considerably. Good for you. I hope you have just as much fun as I do. Have a wonderful day, Albert
Thanks, hoomalimali. Indeed, just thought you might start to like the style. Just enjoy all of them. But don't forget to make your versions, just watching is only half the trick, and have fun doing. Albert
@@ImperfectPaintings Yes, I'm trying. I'm a lifelong photographer fascinated by the collage environment, it's so informal. Always got students to go out and shoot shoot shoot so understand your advice and appreciate it. You are an inspiration to so many. Thank you, Paul. (when asked about the most important darkroom gear I always said "a big trash bin" and so far that's what I'm finding with my collage attempts but not giving up !)
Making and looking at collage, to me in the beginning, was like making and looking at trash while I was despirately trying to see beauty in it. Until I stopped looking at trash and instead looked at it and expexted to see beauty. I noticed lines, color combinations and so on. I didn't change my doing but my thinking. I was not incompetent but I just had to find a way to look at it in a different way.. I had to find the words or, more accurate, learn a new language for my thinking. Seeing, judging, feeling and playing in this new language helped to grasp the idea of collage. Perhaps you know this from photography and how you developed your skills. Just a thought. Have a great day, Albert
Thank you for sharing your process of creating in Clyfford Still’s style. As I explore abstract painting and search for my own style, seeing your work inspired by his approach really sparks my imagination. I’m still figuring out what my unique style will be, but I hope to one day tell stories through my paintings that resonate with others and ignite their creativity. P.S. I’m planning to visit the Clyfford Still Museum on my next trip to Denver.
Thanks, Swiss. Just know whatever you paint is, in my opinion, always 'you' even when working in someone else's style. Look at cubism, they all resemble or relate, but all are unique. Just in other styles. Forget your goal, just paint and have fun. Before you know it you'll be there. Perhaps you have arrives already. Enjoy visiting Denver. Happy painting, Albert.
