There were 29 GMs chuckling at the thought of this being a running team with me last year. What part of our guard's hamstrings, Mobley's knee scope and Allens floating broken rib contributes to this hope? We're already considered banged up.
We're digging J.B...he's a solid leader and may be what the Pistons have been wandering around looking for. The pundits are saying DET +/- 28 wins, which would be a 200% improvement! #GoPistons
Can tell he is growing up and getting more comfortable in front of the camera, need him to be aggressive on the court, the first preseason showed glimpses that were a good sign
As a member of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, I've got so much respect for everyone on the show but specifically Cleveland legend Bernie Kosar... Atkinson kinda reminds me of the hoops version of him. So excited to see this year for 2025 Cavs 🏀
Here’s a breakdown of the main points from the press conference in a more digestible format: 1. Roster and Free Agency Approach: This offseason, the Cavaliers focused on continuity and extending key players rather than making splashy free-agent signings. Core Players: They extended Jared Allen and Isaac Okoro, and kept the core intact with Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Darius Garland. They’re committed to letting the team grow together. 2. Expectations and Playoff Aspirations Goal: The Cavs aim for an NBA championship, building off back-to-back playoff appearances. Their focus is on winning playoff rounds and continuing to improve, particularly in the highly competitive Eastern Conference. Coach’s View: Coach emphasized the importance of internal improvement, especially from young players like Evan Mobley, while not skipping any steps in the process of building a championship-caliber team. 3. Player Development Evan Mobley: The team expects Mobley to continue growing, especially on offense. They're focusing on getting him more involved in transition, handling the ball, and improving his shooting and playmaking abilities. Donovan Mitchell & Darius Garland: Both are key to the team’s success, especially as dynamic scorers and leaders. The coaching staff is focused on making their jobs easier by creating more catch-and-shoot opportunities and improving efficiency. 4. Playoff Preparation Health: Staying healthy through the season and peaking at the right time is crucial. The Cavs aim to improve in the playoffs by working on tactical adjustments throughout the season. Depth: The team will lean heavily on its depth, planning to use a 10-11 player rotation during the regular season to develop the bench and keep the main players fresh for the playoffs. 5. New Additions and Adjustments Ty Jerome: Although he missed much of last season, Jerome is back and impressing in workouts. He adds versatility, being able to play multiple positions. Kenny Atkinson (Coach): Atkinson brings fresh ideas and plans to maximize the team's performance, especially in getting the most out of players like Mobley and Garland. He’s emphasizing versatility in playstyles and playoff readiness. 6. Training Camp in Florida Purpose: The Cavs are planning to hold training camp at IMG Academy in Florida (pending weather conditions). The goal is to build team camaraderie and performance in a new environment, similar to their successful trip to Paris. 7. Donovan Mitchell’s Commitment Long-Term: Mitchell has embraced Cleveland, calling it his “home” and showing leadership by being the first to return to the gym for offseason workouts. His recent contract extension ensures he will be a key part of the team's future. 8. Strategic Outlook New Salary Cap Era: With the new NBA salary cap restrictions (the second apron), the Cavs need to be strategic about managing player contracts and avoiding penalties while still maintaining competitiveness. Focus on Improvement: The team’s internal focus is on elevating all players’ skillsets and building a cohesive system that works in both the regular season and the playoffs. Key Takeaways: The Cavs are building their future on continuity and internal growth, aiming for playoff success and a potential championship. Health, depth, and gradual improvements in the regular season will be critical to their postseason success. The coaching staff is focused on player development, maximizing efficiency, and making sure key players like Mitchell, Mobley, and Garland reach their full potential. This covers the major themes discussed in the press conference!
I think he should be backup point, they really do need to solidify that even if Tyson hopefully gets in that rotation full-time he'll be ok he's so skilled and then you get LeVert combo guarding, but a true backup point in Ty makes sense.
As far as dean wade is concerned, Consider him as an al horford type Player. Backup center Picking and rolling and picking and popping like he did in the celtics series when he Single Handily beat the celtics. He wasn't just standing in the corner. He was moving and getting into the rhythm of the offense. Dean wade is a forty percent +three point shooter and at one point last year was ranked the number one defender in the entire NBA. He's a better shooter and defender than al harford.
I wouldn't go as far to say better than one of the most solid stretch bigs of the last 15 years, but if Dean can stay healthy and fresh, he brings such a matchup advantage and a toolsy defensive weapon. Thanks for the comment! - Spencer D.
Me as well. I know saying all the right things is different than doing all the right things, but it really seems like he understands this league's trends and adapts to the times. Thanks for the comment! - Spencer D.
Our best lineup is going to be DG & Spida (both working hard off-ball), Dean (healthy, confident), Mobley and Allen (both spacing and creating on ball). That's a championship formula.
ice is ready for a big year. he’s very capable, but his role his whole career has been standing in the corner. once he’s on the move, you see what a good slasher, finisher, and playmaker he is
I contend that he has one of the nastiest first steps after a pump-fake on a closeout among any guard in the NBA. It's about keeping defenders honest out there with the three-ball and also utilizing his quickness as a cutter. Kenny could bring out the best in Isaac Okoro... Thanks for the comment! - Spencer D.
