Thanks Ben! This really helps us to understand how to begin the installation of the new Bandit 54 System we purchased from you. Cant wait to fire this new system up
About a dozen years ago I built equipment around vanguard and Honda engines. I used different engines because they were for different companies. I didn't want either to say I stole the design for their equipment so all the parts I didn't make were from different manufacturers. I really couldn't see any important differences and all the equipment lasted for years of hard use. I really thought that the vanguard was a slightly better value. The people using the Honda thought it was a better brand. I thought both were great and would use either if I was making something for myself. I think if I was building something for myself I would look for something with a carburetor. Fuel injection seems unnecessary. A carburetor is simpler and on such a small engine more logical regarding repair.
Terrible review. Don't you think it would have been a good idea to have all the data for each engine on nice placards in front of each engine? What about torque and horsepower? Not everyone is interested in clearances and muffler locations or hovercrafts or experimental aircraft.
I have the kohler .its 4 years old with 175 hours .. right now as soon as i put it under load it chokes out and black smoke... having hell a time trying to figure out whTs wrong
I bought that kohler 26.5hp EFI engine 3 yrs ago. I put in on my shelf and never used it. It still sits there. It has the cold weather muffler just like the one on the red bench. So its still brand new, never started. Spoze i should do something with it, eh.
A larger prop turning at lower speeds will actually achieve more thrust with less noise. A small direct drive propeller is simple and cheaper but also louder.
It depends on which pitch blocks you use on the propeller, but we shoot for somewhere around 1200 rpm at idle. The 3 blade setup shown here is $535 total.
i designed an augmented split big surfboard catamaran air-boat. the flotation augmentation, to the two half surf boards, was not much; so i went with a Valach Motors VM 210, which is extremely light for a 16 HP motor. i would think any of those large model airplane engines would be at least worth considering for light air boats.
It usually depend on how large of a propeller will fit on the application. A reduction drives makes sense at or above about a 48” propeller diameter. But if space doesn’t allow for that, we’ll use a direct drive propeller up to about 42” diameter.
kohler does not have crank case bearing =worn out throw it out . Briggs have 1 x sleeve bearing 1x ball bearing Briggs have performance rods and pistons All motors require performance accelerator pump carburettor
