Another great video! I'm still thinking about trading my Tundra for one because: I don't need a full size truck, a little better gas mileage, AND I'm not young, so parking the Tundra seems to be an issue lately. That hump in the floorboard on the driver's side might be a deal killer for me! I agree, the buttons instead of a shifter is dumb!
I love my 2017 RTL-T!!!! Love the interior of the new 2024 models with the actual center console/ armrest...definitely not a fan of the push button shifter though!!!! Think I wil hold on to Ridgeena since she only has 63,000 miles!!!!
Great video, I agree and don't understand why they would have the same features on the US model like heated mirrors, it's as if they knew they could charge us more and give us less as corporate America does to us all the time. I had a gen I and now I have a Gen II (2020), still like it, I wish they would bring the shifter back, the electronic shifter seems to lag on shifting, I also think if they add a rear stabilizer the could increase towing to 7500. It's is a very good truck, the all wheel drive worked great in snow Ice in Tennessee, and I saw z71 and f150's stuck while I kept driving with out having to do anything special. Honda could allow more after market accessories, and try some more colors.
One of my friends had to drive my truck home from the hospital for me last week. He's always been a GM and Ford fan. He was pleasantly surprised how well it handled and how comfortable it is.
Good video and I echo your comments, after owning trucks of all makes for the last 35 years the Ridgeline gives me the best in customer satisfaction. My off road moto that cost me dearly, if you need your truck to go to work do not try and conquer the great unexplored (buy an atv)
great review. been considering it to replace my decades of multiple tacoma ownerships. does the 4WD need to be exercised? I can't find a good 2WD so may need to get the 4WD/AWD model and don't drive off road.
It actually does have a locking rear differential. The VTM system as Honda calls it is really solid. The only thing I can really gripe about is the direct injection they have issues on all the 3.5 engines with injectors. I don’t haul heavy equipment so the smooth ride is so much better than any pickup and what pickup gets 20mpg??✌🏽
Here I am just looking at Ridgeline reviews when i see Nick Freeman's review. "Well its not Nick but I should watch this one anyway" I think to myself. But it is Nick! Great review. Good to see your face.
Great review. One thing that no one seems to mention and was the deal breaker that made me reluctantly buy a Ridgeline was that it's the only truck in its class that fits my quad in the bed. I also tow a modified garden trailer for gear with a rack and Jon boat on top. Everything is stock except I installed a leveling kit and replaced the tires with the largest BFG's that would fit. I have been able to offroad on anything short of rock crawling. Drives like a magic carpet over even the most savage washboard. The long and short, the Ridgeline isn't going to stroke the ego when you're behind the wheel, so if that's what you need, just buy something else. But if you want something that fits in your garage and does everything else extremely well, then maybe consider.
Thanks for the report! I have an SUV and I just want to get something with a bed to carry stinky stuff, like an inflatable boat with an outboard motor and a can of Gas. But I don't want a big Pickup Truck as it won't fit in many places with an underground garage. I've also been looking at the Maveric as there's a Long Waiting List from so many people asking for it.
I'd love to see Honda make this RWD based to improve towing numbers and drive dynamics. And maybe even get rid of that belt in the engine and swap it with a chain. But that's all wishful thinking
@chadhaire1711 clearly you resort to insults instead of reading comprehension. I know it's AWD, but it's based on FWD architecture. Meaning, the majority of the driven power is Front biased. I'm saying if it was based on RWD architecture, most of the driven power is going to the rear wheels, which makes for better performance with towing and drive dynamics.
@@marcm8473 AWD system puts torque to wheel that needs it. Can lock all four wheels. AWD has SUPERIOR dynamics. Can tow 5K pounds and 1650 in the bed-----RWD is NOT needed and would NOT improve anything.
@chadhaire1711 you really are having a hard time here huh? I understand the benefits of an AWD system. You seem to not understand what I mean by RWD architecture. The Ridgeline starts off mechanically as FWD with an AWD system tacked on. That's why the engine and trans are transverse mounted. I'm saying Honda should start with this vehicle as a RWD based vehicle from the jump then add AWD to the front wheels when needed. For towing use, a RWD based AWD system is usually superior performance. Theres a reason why the Explorer switched back to RWD architecture solely for better towing
@@marcm8473 No Goober I am not having a hard time.....I test factory cars for a living and been doing it for 34 years....Ford Explorer had stronger engines, bigger tow ratings, and since they sold over 300,000 per year they could afford to make changes for different drivers. Honda Ridgeline sells about 65,000 per year, and the typical buyer has a set use and I assure you NOBODY driving one cares about ANY of what you are complaining about. Going from FWD to AWD only solved any gripes owners had...it needs no changes.
I have a 2021 RTL. I bought it for the ride and the load rating. I have hauled more than 5 cords of firewood rounds, about a third of a cord at a time (I have plywood cut for the sides and to protect the rear window as the bed if too small to match 1500 pounds of oak). It is fine. I also have a small power cat (4000 pounds on the trailer). At interstate speeds, the control and ride are fine. It also gets pretty good gas milage towing. I would like another 2 inches of clearance...
I’m on my 2nd ridgeline You cannot beat these vehicles. They are absolutely flawless when it comes to comfort, power, all wheel drive that is superior to any other AWD/4WD when going up steep gravel roads. Great acceleration. The only minor things it can’t do: get more than 24 MPG (I average about 20). And it also can’t tow with Torque - if you need to move a large tree off the road it probably won’t. But it can still tow 5000 lbs and handle a 2,000 lb pallet in the truck bed. Normally I always want new cars or trucks just to change it up. I get bored. But this is the last vehicle I will ever buy.
@@chadhaire1711 Haha, no way. Backing this thing up is terrifying! 😄 I wanted a RL but this truck was given to me. It’s hard to argue with “free truck.”
You absolutely have Apple Carplay -- "Smartphone Connection" is your CarPlay, you just have to connect it via USB cable. :) Hope you see this and test that out!
I love my Ridgeline. It's in a class all by itself. I don't call it a truck. I call it a Ridgeline. I don't tow, off road, or drive in the country. I'm in the city and always by myself. If I need a truck, I drive m F250. That is if I can get it away from my son. Other than that, I absolutely love my daily driver.
It’s a truck made for the occasional suburban user. Unibody design is comfy, and IKEA/Costco/Dorm room runs and maybe helping the neighbor junk some stuff.
I'm actually quite surprised at the one flaw that nobody ever mentions about the trunk. If you have a load in your vehicle that's blocking the trunk, you can't get to it... And if you get a flat with said load, you can't get to your spare tire without removing the load. Now, do I think this is a reason to not buy this truck? No, of course not. But it's something to be mindful of when your putting in heavier than normal loads and going longer distances.
$46k for a bitch baby “truck” yeah, no thanks. This vehicle looks like an ugly cat and ugly dog had a kid. This the vehicle hasn’t been sold, it should qualify to drop off at the fire station to be surrendered under safe haven law. 🤢
Love my '23 RTL. Great ride and handling. Does everything I need it to do. Cross country road trips have been great! Only complaint is the push button shifting and the arm rests. Will love the '26 when my 3 yr lease is up.
I didn't like the fact that it has a timing BELT and not a chain with an interference engine, which means, if the timing belt goes out (they do believe me) the engine is pretty much destroyed (or most of the valves are bent or broke by hitting the pistons) A chain would've been a better idea in this case. Just keep a new belt on it every 50000 miles or so to be safe.
That engine have been proven for over a decade . No timing belt issues, most of my customers replace it at over 150k cause they didn't know they have to replace it
I have a 2021 RTL-E. I don't mind the bed lights but I have the factory tonneau cover so the trunk lid only opens partially. It's still accessible but it doesn't open enough for the bed light to get to the trunk. I got a battery powered light from Harbor Freight for the trunk so I can see inside at night. This is the first vehicle that I have bought that made me decide in advance to buy another one when I have to replace it.
Same issue with the trunk lid and full open. Love the trunk cargo space, capacity and spare tire storage among the many other amenities. The shoulder room, wide bed and interior finish are much higher end than the competition. I will buy another one when ready.
