I stopped watching after 5 minutes into this video when I realised that this presentation is focusing on Lithium Ion as the point of discussion in Energy Storage solution. Perhaps on the other hand you might want to consider Electro-Chemical (w/ metal anode) Long Duration Energy Storage as THE stationary energy storage solution, with the following advantageous characteristics : • Longer lifespan (in decades scale), • Lesser efficiency degradation over its service life (by decades), • A less environmentally hazard material being used (cheap & abundance), • Possibly re-purposing convenience with less than 10% of efficiency degradation after decades in operation (tens of thousands of re-charging / dis-charging cycles), • Etc. NOTE : Do get in touch with Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Council if want to know more.

The 30 years lifespan sure is one way to incentivise long term investment with almost a guaranteed but elongated return to shareholders value while benefiting end user community once couple the LDES with a revenue generating mechanism such as Wind Turbines which also has an almost equivalent lifespan of about 30 years. I like how they can be vertically stacked up to 3 row high, this could lead to space saving in MWh/Acre of land compound in which the LDES occupies (especially when the site land rate is of scarce value). Beside the aboves, how is the Round Trip % Efficiency compared to other LDES technology out there ? I believe it was mentioned somewhere in the range of mid 90s (or 95%), is it not ?

Looking at these Renewable Projects application & submission trends going forward (regionally), perhaps you should advice LDES provider (eg. Ambri & Invinity) to ramp up their manufacturing capacity in catching up with Wind and/or Solar book order requirement in the future (since each RE projects submission now requires them to 'marry' both Renewable & Storage together for their RE operations to achieve its system efficiencies).

Most of these simulation tools forecasting duration of up to 10-15 years and thus their calculation formula of R.o.I. to achieve Breakeven Point may most likely fall within that given window time frame (i.e. 10-15 years of simulated forecast). You will physically know (not virtually by metaverse) that you are staying ahead when you have assets life span of >30 years (eg. a row of 2MW wind turbines) and 3-6 acres of modular LDES with average service life span of 20-25 years → this would give ample of time to buy-back the invested LDES development project on the field itself. After all, Energy Sector program duration typically fall in the scale of decade/s life span in continuously generating real income for the long term.

1:07:40 Larry Kane says cooling the battery while its going through a runaway event would prolong the fire. Am I missing something? that just didn't make sense to me, any one with a take on that?

The phase change technology is clever, but it's sad that it is being paired with local PV rather than grid scale renewable energy. The contribution of PV in Scotland to renewable energy is pitiful; there just isn't enough sun and the PV energy generated comes when we least need it. Wind energy, on the other hand, generally comes at a time that closely correlates to the times that we most need heat energy, because of the cooling effect of wind on our buildings. There may be a place for this phase change technology as a distributed means of balancing the load on the grid and making effective use of distributed or farmed wind energy generation, but, frankly, I think large thermal stores coupled with heat pumps offer a more efficient alternative.

This can use the grid, its designed on any number of different recharging methods, grid, grid with solar, grid with ASHP, or just ASHP. We've gone for the grid with PV as we can add the PV at a later date, so it will be mainly grid use over night on cheap electricity. The PV will be mainly used to top up during the mid sun, we currently have a bath and an electric shower, we aim to installed a bath tub mixer tap with shower to see how it works and what money we save. We plan to extend and include a new bathroom layout so this allows us to experiment with different ideas to save money in the long term. If you download the brochure off this page you can see the different veriants on offer.. sunamp.com/

I would also like to flag a "how we live" issue... for example district energy is far more prevalent in parts of Europe. Countries which have higher population densities due to apartment living will provide vastly larger opportunities for makers like VRB & other Vanadium redox flow battery companies.

Yes - we can only apologise. The decision to film the panel was taken on the day so we weren't able to connect directly to the mixing desk. I would just recommend turning up the volume - and not using earphones! Thanks.

Brilliant. What about a heat pump rather than heating element so the process is even more efficient. I read heat pump hot water systems are typically x3 to x4 more efficient compared to using an old style heating element.
@showme360
@showme360 2 года назад
You can use a heat pump with this storage device, but the solar method is by far the most efficient method, when you compare with green energy from the grid, the grid itself is not very efficient and looses occurs from the source of the energy to the user via the network cables and step up and step down systems. The Sunamp itself is very efficient at storing the energy used to heating it up compared to traditional water tanks, so the more direct the energy the more efficient it is. I would say the most cost effective method for the end user would be the solar option as solar is far cheaper than the ASHP method, but then that depends on where you live in the world in relation to the equator. (see here via the link to the brochure on their webpage...sunamp.com/)

A heat pump can't provide the temperatures that you need. Part of the fundamental principle is storing large amounts of energy in a small volume because of the high temperature - and yes the phase change.

A good interview. However Dr Chanda suggests that the proposed new Distribution System Operators may be allowed to own generation assets (including battery energy storage) but this is not likely in my view. Note that GB Transmission System Operators are not allowed to own such assets but they contract with generator operators to obtain services.
