He simple did what the real Greeks have done and still doing throughout the history. The Spartans and of course the rest of Greeks did the same in the ancient years. Spartan women said to their men and children when they were going to a war: Is better to come with your spear (alive and victorious) or on the spear, which mean that the battle has lost and the only possible way to return to Sparta is dead. We always fight for our Faith, our Land and our families.. We fight with superior enemy in numbers. But there is no surrender, there is no retreat. We have no were to go. It is considered the Turks won. But who really won? In the future years Kolokotronis said, to an England Admiral who told him that you are very few and you are confronting an empire, that: “We are soldiers of our King (Constanin XI). Our king didn’t signed any treaty. He died in the battle fighting. Thus we are always in war against the Turks”. This war is not ended, until the achievement of the primate objective, which is the freedom of Constantinopole and the reviving of the East Roman Empire. This has been prophesied by dozens of our Saints and will become true in our days.
Mehmed 2 was an honorless coward who hid behind his armies and canons. On the other hand Emperor Constantine XI fearlessly charged at the Ottoman soldiers with his sword knowing full well he was going to die.
In what honor should the Turks "return" Constantinople, it is a conquest as so many nations have also made so why should some give back what they have won?! I am French and proud of my past but I believe that the Turks have as much right to be too, they have a great past!
i like in the series how one of the historians states that somehow, a person from the British Isles (usually a Scotsman) finds themselves on a random battelfield (refering to John Grant)
Constantine Palaiologos XI was also a GREAT Emperor & Man ,like Constantine the Great ,the founder of Constantinople, because... Although he had the chance to give the City to Ottoman Turks , he denied , despite the fact that he knew he was going to die..He said NO,like a modern Leonidas... Giovanni Justiniani was a GREAT Military Man from Genova (& Chios) , who was the last defendor of Constantinople, along side with Constantine Palaiologos XI, who fought bravely the Ottoman Turks & cost them huge casualties !!! As a Greek , I can't describe how much I appreciate his contribution to our defence ! I will NEVER FORGET HIM ! I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER BOTH OF THEM !
Please don't forget the role of Joanni Ioustiniani 0.29). He would be the one who who would save the City, by his own IF would not be betrayed. Enteral honour and respect to this man
Didn't Constantine XI take off all of his armor and regalia before "attacking to get killed"? Or is the only conceivable explanation for a ruler removing all his regalia and armor is that he was preparing to flee without being recognized? And he did that before with his brother in his despotate. Surprisingly, no contemporary sources know what happened to him, and there are no eyewitnesses. A solitary ruler?! Nobody surrounding him, no bodyguards, no high-ranking military and administrative personnel? Weird.
Funny to see a song about papal defenders put into a movie about Constantinople. The Franks sacked Constantinople in the Crusades, leading to it's ultimate fall under the Ottomans.
Sultan Mehmed 2 and the Eastern Roman emperor Constantine XI, they were great people,Sultan Mehmed 2 is a hero to me and the Islamic world, for proving the words of the prophet Muhammad about the conquest of constantinople,Meanwhile, Emperor Constantine XI, he was a brave leader and hero, who did not leave his people and his empire, in his last moments he preferred to die on the battlefield,For the sake of the nation
@@youwilldie14yearsagoedited2 if there was no bad blood between Catholic and Orthodox , the Pope would have sent the 400 ship armada he promised and Mehmed’s head would of decorated the walls of Constantinople, it will return. Deus Vult ⚔️

*☦️[Final Speech of Konstantinos XI]☦️* ".. Present your shields, swords, arrows, and spears to them, imagining that you are a hunting party after wild boars, so that the impious may learn that they are dealing not with dumb animals but with *their lords and masters, the descendants of the Greeks and Romans* .." *-Konstantinos XI Palaiologos* *[Chronicle by Georgios Sfrantzis]*
As a turk, i must admit, i admire the last emperors resolve a lot. Rome was the greatest civilisation world has ever seen. Its no surprise the empire and its last emperor fell with guns blazing. I can not imagine any other end for romans.
The fact it started 753BC and only fell 1453AD, when the world had changed so much that guns were even a thing, that is testament to their line. More than 2000 years, that’s how long they lasted.
Only Turks or Easterns are proud... The Western world mourn for Constantinople's fall. Battleship of Lepanto shows one thing... Ottomans could not surpass Westerns. Not talking about civilazation.... not even compare
